Really good vid, well worth the half hour.
Great playing, your engineer knows what he's doing and I'm definitely adding some of those Neural DSP amps to the shopping list

Thank you Jason appreciated, and for me, with this kind of music it's probably Gojira and Omega. Omega is a bit more open and 'real' Gojira is brutal

I’ve been watching your channel off and on since I first started playing guitar 5 years ago so I do have a certain amount of respect for you but seriously, who do you think you are telling people what “WE” need to stop doing when it comes to making music?
Newer bands with their overly produced sounds are not objectively better than the old bands with raw production. The idea that these older bands “used what they had” and that’s why the production was bad and therefore there’s no reason to have that sound anymore because an iPhone can make better recordings is far from the truth. A lot of the 90s bands recorded in a studio and had access to good equipment and chose to chase the lofi sound because it’s always been an aesthetic.
If you don’t want to show people how to get the lofi sound that’s fine, but if people want to chase that tone for their own music why act like it’s an offense that “WE” need to stop committing? Just tell them to look elsewhere for that information.
In a way, I understand the whole “stop trying to be Burzum” “stop trying to be Darkthrone” mentality because nobody will ever be able to hold a candle to those bands but it has nothing to do with lofi production. The way I see it, all the good ideas have already been done, and people just generally lack musical talent these days (myself included). In my opinion, there really hasn’t been a good black metal album released since 2003, lofi production or otherwise, and the more these modern bands “evolve” as you put it, the less they even sound like black metal, so I have an appreciation for people who at least try to keep a traditional aesthetic. I guess you could say I’m a sucker for “style over substance”
I’m done ranting. I guess I just felt personally attacked because I do worship the lofi aesthetic, I record all of my music on a 1980s shoebox cassette recorder FFS Lol, and I’m not gunna stop.
