  • Parents for Palestine held a very successful charity football tournament for Gaza in London's Hyde Park, which attracted over 100 children between the ages of 5 and 15.
The aim was to raise awareness, raise support and raise funds for the people of Palestine - with children and parents alike going away knowing a lot more about the extreme difficulties of trying to play sport under occupation.
Around 300 Palestinian footballers have been murdered by Israeli forces since the start of the genocide, with all sporting infrastructure in Gaza completely destroyed. Even before October 7, football matches would be attacked and teargassed both in Gaza and the West Bank. Which makes it even more remarkable that athletes managed to reach the Olympics to represent Palestine.
As one of the coaches says, "Football is all about the values and skills and the discipines that are instilled in us. Teamwork, supporting each other and battling to the end really reflects a lot of the values of the Palestinian movement as well, and those globally that support Palestine have."
