I never travel on any holidays. Ever. I volunteer at our community center to help others. No way am I driving in storms or flying in crowds. I have found that sweet spot.
I worked in dairy service on the Front Range about a decade and a half ago for a couple or three years. One of the requirements was being OK with cow manure. I mean really OK with cow manure. Because you walk through it, it is on everything, the walls, stalls, machinery, and yes the teats of the cows and the extraction cups. The teats and the cup get a cursory wipe, and then off they go. That is why the pasteurization machine is so important, preceded by a filtration system. If the machine, or the water heaters or anything went down with pasteurization, production stopped. But a filtration system can't filter out things of the size range of bacteria like e-coli. Raw milk sans the pasteurization is risky to those who don't have an immune system up to it. I stopped drinking milk after the experience. I never liked the way the cows were treated to get them to produce milk...
Years ago we'd put raw milk in mason jars and shake it to make butter. We were too poor for a churn. And we shook and shook! LOL. Whole lot of shaking going on then 😂. The butter was really good though.
My Mom passed September 2015. And yes Christmas was her favorite holiday, me not so much. It's the music same year after year after year, etc. I still miss her, she visits in my dreams. Then last year 2023, I lost my baby brother in December. So all I can say is hang in there. And do something that honors their memory, maybe volunteer for the holidays. I am hanging a family portrait of the family. We've never had anything hanging on our walls. Except 3 dimensional picture of Jesus & the "Last Supper" on wood that some elderly gentleman gave me.
