It's so beautiful to watch Assamese Muslims singing these devotional songs. But nowadays it's almost extinct. In earlier days, as i remember every Assamese Muslim household would sing these songs. All the people would be in Assamese traditional dresses. But nowadays it is hardly possible to find an Assamese Muslim woman wearing Mekhela Chadar. A year ago when I visited my mother's house, i was surprised as to how things changed. Five years back I felt as if that place was like any other Assamese village. But now I really feel like i have entered some other district in another state of India. I cordially request everyone. These newly spread seeds of religious intolerance is a total foreign element to our Assamese society. We Assamese never questioned any religion. Let's stay like our ancestors did before. As brothers and sisters. Mother Assam has two religions as her two hands i.e. Hindus and Muslims. Please don't let any other person from another land who doesn't know anything about our history and culture break this unity. A cordial request to both Hindus and Muslims of Assamese society.
