  • Here's a look at the unboxing and first cuts with my new torch. Railroad track didn't even slow this beast down! Love it! Hope to add a cnc plasma table to the shop in the next few months too.

    We have a small shop and Harris Welding is the place we order our consumables and other welding parts we need. We have dealt with them for at least 20 years and they are good to ship early so you can get what you need even in a hurry!

    So many of these comments are wrong. As an employee, I can tell you it’s all US made. Sure nuts and bolts, maybe some plastic pieces are outsourced but you’re buying a US product. And for the guy stating we “undercut” local shops online, we only sell through channels, not directly. We scrap anything with a single scratch on it and pride every piece of equipment and consumable like selling jewelry. If it’s not perfect, we don’t sell it. If there was ever a company to have faith in it’s Hypertherm. And if there’s any displeasure, call, it will be rectified.

      Good to hear. I've been extremely happy with my unit, zero problems, love it. My experience with customer service was excellent from both the manufacturer and the dealer was excellent. There's a followup video on my channel too that discusses just that.

      I bought a hypertherm powermax 85 off eBay for a grand , it came with a 75 foot lead . a $750 upgrade and only 1 nozzle was gone out of the original consumable kit . The machine was in as new condition . The greatest investment I ever made . I consider it a true blessing from god . I never dreamed I would have the best metal cutting machine available for 220 single phase

    I saw your review on their Facebook page which brought me here. Lincoln had been running their rebate special on their PowerMIG and Square Wave TIG 200 units. Went to go buy it direct from Lincoln and their store was showing the TIG unit out of stock, wouldn't let me back order. I came out ahead by ordering from Harris. I'll have to float the rebate amount on my card for a week or two but I don't have to pay shipping, nor do I have to drive across town to pick it up to save on shipping. Hoping everything from here on out goes smoothly.

      Apparently they drop ship directly from Lincoln for machine orders. I ordered it on Sunday, got an invoice Monday night, and my machines arrived around noon on Tuesday, by FREIGHT nonetheless.

    Bought the same rig with a machine torch and hand torch. Air Liquide provided consumables, but the price was more, but with the exchange rate on our dollar it was cheaper than going through a U.S. supplier. I concur with the ease of operation and I also am kicking myself for not doing it earlier.

    Weld stores everywhere, at least the ones in Houston, all have the "don't care who's selling it at that price" mentality. Tbh, I agree with them, if I was running a business I need to feed my family first, competing with corporate online sites will close the doors real fast. Spend the extra and get the extra service, and support the local communities.

    • @SelfMadeProject
      @SelfMadeProject  5 років тому

      It was a corporate store. Nationwide company. The place I bought it is also a brick and motor store that happens to sell online and has awesome support! These stores think they are the only game in town, especially in a small town. They will end up closing, but it will be because of their resistance to operate like a modern business. I'd rather buy local, but my family has needs too, and that comes first for me.

      @@wadeteague9242 yes, I will pay a little more for a local product or service. No problem. But, it has to be in the ball park, and they were not. On top of that, the local "corporate" store has a very uncaring attitude. Heck, I feel like I'm bothering them when I go in to purchase something.

    I am in the same boat you was in same machine maybe same power cord and never once tried using one, I will be using the same plug as you did, by the way did you take out the strain relief on the plug or did you use it? I took the strain relief out and tightened it up around the cord with the cut red wire and it was nice and tight, but I ran out of good light so I will finish it tomorrow.
    So many projects not enough time, I also have to put a 100Amp plug a lincoln precision tig 275 and change the inside settings, last but not least change out air compressors, I have a beast waiting as soon as I can pull out the smaller quincy, the one I will be installing is a 80 gallon tank and 10 hp motor.

    Always better to buy local, your LWS will always take care of you. The internet prices can be deceiving, they buy old units a lot of times in large quantities so when you get it the SN may almost be or close to out of warranty.

      I do try to buy local, all the time. But, really, if there is another dealer say in the next town over and they will sell you a unit for significantly less, wouldn't you drive over and get it? I did buy from a dealer, they have a brick and mortar, just not local. And, as far as taking care of me, they did when I had a problem! Check out my second video about this cutter.

      Chris Miller not arguing with you, I normally feel the same way, but there's more to this particular corporate srore's story. A guy I work with saw my hypertherm, but didn't have that much money, so he went in this same store and bought a smaller Miller machine that was rated at 1/2". Once home, it would barely cut 1/8", so he tried to take it back. He then embarked on about a 3 month ordeal of horrible service. They were not friendly, kept trying to upsell him, refused a refund. After a month, they gave him a refurb unit as an exchange, even though he paid for a new one. Guess what? It didn't work either! In the end, he had to come up with more money and upgraded to a bigger unit. Seriously, it took every bit of 3 months to resolve, and now he swears to never enter that place again. The guys there just do not care about us, maybe because we are hobbyist, I don't know.

      Well actually, since you brought it up.... I will be upgrading after getting this cutter. I've had a little upright 30 gallon for years and it has pretty much ran anything I had. But, it's not big enough for the plasma, it'll keep up for the most part, but never cycles off, then it starts getting hot, then you start getting a lot of moisture, etc. I'm looking at an 80 gallon 2 stage compressor now, but they just cost so dang much!

    • @rookyandb
      @rookyandb 8 років тому

      +Self Made Doesn't ring a bell but there are a lot of companies out there now that make table setups. A 4x8 is perfect if you don't plan to do production stuff and that's standard sheet metal sizes. Everyone always wishes they had upgraded to a larger table from the get go.

    I know I’m 3 years late on this video but what size air compressor do you need to run this unit?

    • @SelfMadeProject
      @SelfMadeProject  4 роки тому +1

      I've got an upright portable, think it's like a 30 gal tank. It will do ok for intermittent cutting or thin stuff. But, I have had it not keep up on big cutting. If you're making long cuts on 3/4 thick plate, it will run out of air and machine will fault code and stop. Most normal hobbyist type work it's fine.

      @dblood8529 4 роки тому

      Self Made Project thanks. Your review was awesome by the way. I would love to get one some day but I don’t have a large air compressor. I do have a gas powered Dewalt with a 4 hp Honda engine. I wonder if it would work alright with that with light work?

    • @SelfMadeProject

    I'm looking for a unit that will easily cut 1" steel. would you recommend this machine for that?

    • @SelfMadeProject
      @SelfMadeProject  7 років тому

      I thought I replied to this earlier, but for some reason UA-cam is not posting my comments! Anyway, yes, this will cut 1" steel. You have to go kind of slow, but it is rated for it. For a little more power and speed, they do make an 85 model that is a step up from this one. Another thing to watch, the specs are usually quoting performance with a hand torch. They are all de-rated a little for cnc applications. So this unit with a machine torch is only good for 5/8" or 3/4" I think.

    • @danvize4284
      @danvize4284 7 років тому

      Self Made I have been looking at the 85 as well. I've been kinda torn between the two, but I'm leaning towards the 85. there are no good videos of the 65 or 85 being pushed to there limits. most are on cnc and cutting thin material.

    • @SelfMadeProject
      @SelfMadeProject  7 років тому

      +Dan Vize I really wanted the 85, but it just came down to money for me. I only had $3000 saved up and I wanted to buy the unit with both torches. The 85 is a few more dollars, but if you've got the money, why limit youself? I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I should've went with 85.

    • @SelfMadeProject
      @SelfMadeProject  7 років тому

      +Dan Vize one more thought if you're planning cnc. The limiting factor seems to be the piercing thickness. Even if the unit can sever 1 1/4", it might only pierce 5/8" in a cnc application.

      If you really do sell golf carts and that's your mentality dealing with customers, I can't see you staying in business long. So, let's get this straight, I did go into my local "corporate" store, not once, but twice to try and buy local. Two different employees blew me off and had a take it or leave it attitude. And, this is the same store that I bought a $1900 Miller welder at a few years ago and have bottles filled at all the time. So, my "face to face" experience sucked. They don't actually have the machines in stock there either, so I would have to order it before seeing it there too. This cutter sells online in dozens of places for $2400 with free shipping and no sales tax, yet the local store quoted $3000 plus tax. So, as a customer, please explain why I should pay $870 more for the same item? To stay local I would have paid maybe $100 or $150 more, but not nearly $900. Hypertherm did not sell directly to me, undercutting a dealer. The place I did buy it from, Harris Welding Supply is a real store too, just not in my town. They have been in business for over 29 years and have brick and mortar stores too. They actually act like they "want" to sell me something, not dismiss me like they couldn't care less. If a local is unwilling to change their business model to allow themselves to succeed in the global market we all live in, they are shooting themselves in the foot. It's not me that hurting them. Harris Welding Supply also reached out to me about the scratched up case, they then contacted Hypertherm, and have already sent me a new replacement case with their apologies. They did this on their own, I didn't ask! REAL customer service!!! I even got a call from Hypertherm to discuss my purchase, again, REAL customer service!!! I guess my local shop must think a lot like you. No thanks.
