Thank you for this. I love upcycling t-shirts. I have a boy dog but you just gave me an idea. I think I will make him a bow tie using your technique for attaching the flower to the collar.

Ha! Making a dog bow tie from a pair of jeans is on my tutorial to-do list :) I'm glad you liked it, have fun with your project.

could you fold it in half and then stitch very close to the folded edge?

Here is a great tip for those pesky hot glue strings> Zap them with a heat gun or a blow drier and they will melt away!!! Have a blessed day :)

Instead of hot glue, would fabric glue work as well, or would that prolong the drying time?

Yes, to both questions. I actually had mentioned that in my rough cut of the video but it didn't make through editing...I just couldn't stop talking throughout this video :) Anyway, yes you can use fabric glue and yes it will extend the drying time.
If you check out this video ua-cam.com/video/M2dLoec0NrQ/v-deo.html you can see another type of T-shirt flower that I did using fabric glue. If you skip ahead to about 6:45 you can see how I handled the glue drying process.
