Thanks Brother. I have 20 acres and like you I don’t want to poison my family. We’ve had more ticks this year than last year and I noticed that there are more deer in our yard and more rabbits and mice and squirrels than last year as well. I will definitely try this method. Thanks for sharing.

I used food grade diatomaceous earth to kill fleas and ticks in my dog pen. Worked great. Make sure you apply it during dry days. Check it out.

Hi Winn, just purchase it at your local hardware store and spread it around your property.

make sure your dog doesnt breathe it in. The diatoms will permanently damage lungs. DE washes away with the rain so its very temporary.

I will try this - the past 2 years I've been spraying my whole yard with CEDAR OIL - seems to be working - noticing far less ticks on me - but cedar oil needs repeated applications -

Hi metech! Let us know how it works out for you. In my experience it takes time, if you’re looking for a quick fix, go to Home Depot and buy a lot of chemicals and dump them in your yard. This approach effectively disrupts the cycle of life of the ticks and it takes time. Good luck! Again let us know how it works out! Thanks for watching!

Have you tried diatomaceous earth? It's a very fine powder that you can dust where ticks are present but also where animals pass so it sticks to their fur. It's non toxic to humans (wear a mask when applying) but avoid dusting near flowers or bees.

Just get yourself some chickens. they say guinea fowl are good but they
cause more problems than they solve. plain old chickens , they love
ticks ants beetles. I lived on a farm in wisconsin back in 1975 and we
got a dozen chickens and let em free range. You know we never saw so
much as one ant, tick or beetle on the property!

I haven’t even seen what u have done yet but I’m going to try it. This year for the last month we are seeing a tick a day on someone in the family. We treat the yard, we treat the pets (vet prescribed few and tick meds). We check after being outside for extended periods of time.
I’m still seeing them. I usually can go a full summer and see maybe 3. A tick a day is horrifying lol.
Ahh! I’ve never seen this used in this way. I just read about treating clothing with it....I’m gonna try that too.

Interesting idea but there are much better, more permanent approaches to this problem. One is to create a very dry area around your living spaces. Chemicals aside (unless perhaps you are hosting an outdoor party in the near future- in which case, it might make sense), the environment should always be very inhospitable to ticks e.g., low humidity, no leaves, no long grass, etc. Also, using Deer/Raccoon fencing, dry rocks/gravel, wood chips and an inner dirt boarder would also help significantly- think of the classic desert landscaping motifs. Also trimming excessive branches and cleaning up all areas where ticks could hide helps a lot.
The tubes, aside hurting other small animals could be particularly harmful to your neighbors CAT(s) or other animals who are neurologically highly sensitive to permethrin. This is especially relevant when the chemical is still wet. Also, you mentioned that you have well water- make sure there is no run off that allows that chemical to find it's way into the ground water. Wearing a mask and eye protection when spraying that chemical is also advisable.
The bottom line is ticks will "never" ever go away. You would have to consistently and regularly spray gallons of chemicals or drop dozens of those tubes on a monthly basis to gain any potentially significant benefits. A few tubes with a few sprays of permethrin, after being exposed to the elements will find it's half-life relatively quickly- thought it's HL in the water column is fairly long- about 40 days. If anything, a few diluted sprays over time would just make living creatures who encounter it sick and possibly resistant to it. Brown ticks (aks Rhipicephalus sanguineus) are resistant to permethrin already.

    • @MOAB-UT
      @MOAB-UT 4 роки тому

@@TheComebackKid Your welcome and good luck solving your tick issues. Please be extremely careful about inadvertently breathing in any permethrin. When you are spraying it, you will certainly increase your exposure dramatically via breathing it in and by absorbing it via your eyes. It will also blow back (via wind) onto your clothes where it lasts a long time on fabric. As is the warning, always wash exposed/treated cloths separate from your other clothes, especially items like pillow cases and under garments. You will also step on the mist and track that into your home where it will linger in carpet for a long time. Permethrin has been linked with cancer- more specially multiple myeloma so again, just be vigilant. You can read up on via the AHS studies and in PubMed. As is true in general health prevention is better than treatment. In this case, some simple physical environmental barriers would likely serve you well.

We re up North - hot summers and cold winter. NEVER seen a tick on any of my dogs since I was a kid! This week, my little guy had 2. I always dreaded it: but, what has to be done has to be done. Deer ticks. Disgusting. Now we are watching for symptoms, but so far, so good. We do have an overabundance of deer in our area of mostly suburban middle class homes. Frontline Plus (which I hated to give him pesticides) did not stop him from getting them this season of Winter 2019. He's mostly in the house except when he gets a walk down our asphalt street to the children's park that has a mowed lawn. I went back to buying Cedarcide: the cedar oil is strong, but it works. I'll try the lemongrass variety next time. It is ok with me, but my family hates the smell. Couch potatoes!!!!! :)

I didn’t realize squirrels were a major carrier. Our apartment complex is literally filled with them this year. The outdoor cats people let out are apparently broken, not doing their job 🤣 the squirrels are so used to people you can hand feed them. If there was a way to treat them, I def would.
What about treating the grass around the feeders so when they run through it gets them? If there is a way to treat them... hell, if there was a way to get rid of a few squirrels to, that would be fab.
I can hear one of the little jerks chewing in my attic space 🙄🤣

Wondering how this will affect the snakes in the area. How will eating several mice exposed to permethrin affect a snake? I would assume the actual residue of the chemical that bonds to the rodents is minimal, but that's just a guess. Not that I love snakes, but I do appreciate the extent to which they control the mouse population. In theory, they help control the tick population too, somewhat.

Athlete's foot yeah it's also related believe it or not I'm like what I don't understand what is going on not really begging anyone knows anything anyway you can help me get rid of the snakes the ticks the mice....and these AGONIZING SYMPTOMS.

Lol I HAVE to spray initially...Nobody has been on this property for over a hundred yrs.. I know right? Unbelievable you say? 1908. Thats Definately over a hundred yrs. Hi Elizabeth, weeks to potentially months. I say this because this method is basically disrupting the life cycle of ticks. @@DropTheBunny Owls and eagles are native to North America, domestic cats and dogs aren't. Were you born stupid or was it acquired?

Cats should be outside, they are a natural outside creature that has been domesticated.
