Seeing a bunch of thumbs down for this video is disheartening. Dude goes to all this trouble and makes a clear, concise, and thorough video...and some folks give it a thumbs down? WTF is wrong with people??? Instead of giving it a thumbs down, how about b4 that you go to all the trouble to make a video on how to do...ANYTHING, and once your video is complete, upload it to UA-cam, and let me know how you feel when a bunch of judgmental ego-warriors click the thumbs down button! Ughhh.... Wish people would wake up, start being a little nicer, and spread kindness throughout the land instead of negativity. Try it, you'll be surprised how good it makes you feel, and how many good vibes start coming your way. ☮️ 🙏👍🙏
Thanks for uploading this. My RAV4 2003 (1AZ-FE engine) is revving itself over 2000 rpm when I start the engine, I'm not pressing the accelerator pedal, it's just idling like this and then after a few minutes the revs gradually reduce to a normal low idle. Otherwise it seems okay. Carefully cleaning the MAF sensor looks like a good idea.
Hi, did cleaning the MAF sensor change this behaviour? Mine does it too but I've heard it's normal and the engine does it when it's cold to heat itself up.
My 2002 Toyota RAV4 starts well, runs well until 50 miles, then it seems to be drowning, and develops slowly, also on slopes it is very weak and the engine light flashes
That's not a Phillips screw it is a JIS screw! Also the side that the flow touches will get dirty. Don't touch it spray with Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner only! Never rub on that sensor with a dirty rag...
That s what happened to my 2002 rav4 dirty sensor .Revolution of engine on its own. I BROUGHT it to toyota i never knewvit was that so simple cleaning.
You can buy a spray can of Sensor Clean for this and spray right through the disconnected plastic air cleaner box where the MAF sits and not have to mess with those small screws. Regular cleaning with the spray when you change oil. Sensor Clean is a less powerful solvent than carb cleaner and is safe for all sensors.
I have a 2003 rav4 with 80k miles on it. i changed the spark plugs, belt and PCV valve, and cleaned the throttle body. I also ran seafoam through crankcase, oil and vacuum. and change oil with synthetic oil and air filter. also changed the differential fluid. will change the transmission and transfer case fluid. any other maintenance recommendations?
Hello Peter, I have a Rav 2001 3 door, 2.0 litre engine and I cannot find the MAF sensor. The air goes straight to the filter with no sensor in line ?. I am only getting 6 kilometers to a litre of fuel. Many people say that is the MAF sensor.......which I cannot find.
Great video! I've always heard to only use MAF cleaner and let it air-dry for 30-45 minutes. Anyways, I just bought a used, 1 owner 2003 RAV4 with good records of maintenance. It has the manual transmission which was very hard to find. Any issues that you know of with this generation of RAV4? I've heard the head gasket was a common issue. The dealership replaced mine before I bought it. Thanks Peter.
2003 has two models the acr20 and 21 ( manufacture date pre sept 2003) and acr22 and 23 post september 2003 ( not quite sure about model codes). one has a 2 litre engine th other has a 2.4 litre Make sure you get the right information for your car, for example the auto trans on the early model had a recall and should be avoided but the later models are fine. Ive owned both models (done more than 200000km) and have not found any major problems, never had problems with head gaskets, just regular sevicing and the car runs great. One thing when your clutch needs replacing it will "fail" quickly, once you notice slipage or problems selecting reverse, get it looked at and/or replaced or you may find yourself in need of a tow.

Step one don't buy sensor from dealer. Denso is the maker of the part and is $76 on Rockauto.
Thank you for this video. I had exactly same issue with my Toyota Previa 2001. I cleaned it with Electrical cleaner and cotton buds. 👍👍
Thank You. :-)
This has alot of info, thank you. I've got dash lights on my 05 and was told to try this.
Thanks for the video, At least i know where things are now, I will just use maf sensor cleaner

Replace brake fluid.
Power steering fluid change if it looks dirty.
Fuel filter
Ohhh noooooo, you touch it, you touch the sensor!!

Hey Peter Finn, I have error codes P0032 and P2238, could cleaning MAF sensor help with those errors ?

Hi Peter, what year is your Rav4?
2002
Is this a fix for the P0171 engine code?
Thanks I will !!!
Good comment 👍
10:45 Maybe You can use cotton swabs (accessories for ear cleaning)
it looks like easy, let me try it..
Thanks
Hey Peter I changed the pcv valve
And the head gasket. All of a sudden. I have a hissing electrical noise coming from the pcv.... What could it be
Good comment and Thanks ! 😀👍
Well done

Fuel filters?
How many year interval to replace a timing belt in RAV4. 2000 to 2018.?
Within every 300 000 miles.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor I have an 01 but it has a timing chain and I believe all Toyota's from 2003 and above switched to a timing chain.
2000 was the last year they used a belt. Otherwise most vehicles every 100,000 or so, sooner if it's idling a lot/city driving.
My engine goes into a rough idle when hot at stop lights. The RPM drops...MAF?
Throttle body idle valve is issue
Does you rpm drop below idle speed then rise again? Did you even find a solution?
Fuel pump?
Clean idle control valve it definitely blocked with dirt same what happened to my car
A co by tomu říkal palivový filtr, když se vymění za nový?
Only use MAF Sensor cleaner. Carburetor cleaner is for carburetors
Sensor. Cost nothing to put in my pucket. 😁
Not Philip's head screws they are JIS buy the correct screwdrivers
I have read your post. Thank you for the message. Good comment. 👍😀
You are cleaning it the wrong way! Touching the elements is a no no besides you should be using MAF sensor cleaner instead!
po malko govori svarshi poveche rabota i po barzichko.😮
Good comment 👍
go on you think we are that dumb? Thinks he got something from mars with his electric wrench Wrens
Ok
You are so dumb that you can't even sting a coherent sentence together. This was a helpful video.
