OMG! Those colors are simply gorgeous! I really love this! I need to get a couple; I know my daughters will want it, when they see it; they will just have to share...lol xoxo
You should melt soft and hard oils together, then add sugar when it’s not too hot before it gets hard like that. Just by mixing hardening oils with a stick blender like that doesn’t blend fatty acids as they aren’t melted really..
This is so cool and so nice of you to share the recipe with the rest of us. The colors are so vibrant and beautiful that you used. They came out so gorgeous and I bet that they are wonderful to use. 😘. Dayna
Multiply the percentages by the amount you need.. soo say you want to make 6 4oz jars .. you need 24oz or 680g. So you multiply 680g x 15% =102g hard butters 680g x 62% = 421.6g liquid oils 680g x 8% = 54.4g e-wax 680g x 5% = 34g beeswax 680g x 2% = 13.6g preservative 680g x 2% = 13.6g fragrance If you need measurements in ounces or any other units you just do the math the same way or do it in grams and convert later. To check your math make sure percentages = 100% and make sure the numbers you get after multiplication equal the total amount you need to fill your jars (i.e. after multiplying everything .. all numbers = 680g) Hope this helps 🤎
You gave the recipe by percentages, but then the sugar by weight. Can you either tell me how big the batch is or what percentage sugar you use so I can figure it out? I tried looking on the Nurture Soap website, but couldn't find this recipe. I made some for myself following your percentages and just added sugar until it felt right, but would like to know what I really should be using. Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for the video. I love sugar scrubs and was getting tired of spending $$$$ on organic ones(which by the way are hard to find). So with you being a sweetheart and sharing your recipe most people would not. I'm gonna give it a try with all organic products. do the E-wax come in organic form?
@@peachfuzznails6971 No, Aly is correct, any qualified formulator knows the whole recipe should add to 100%, the fragrance and preservative have guidelines you need to follow and they are a percentage within the whole batch, which will equal 100%.
I don’t understand using percentages of these products. As there is no given amount to calculate by. Example: you say use 15% of hard butter. What is 15% of what amount? I am unable to make this scrub.
Hi I have read all of the comments but cant see anything thst relates to how much sugar to use for this recipe. Can you please tell me how much sugar to use please
It's in percentage form because it's easier to do it that way when making cosmetics. TaraLee has a good video explaining this and how to convert it. Essentially it's done it percentages so that it's easier to convert it to however big or small you wanna make your batch as opposed to starting out by weight and then converting to %s later. Percentages translate better in the end.
I make my own nail polishes and gel polishes, where do you buy your Micas and what brand are they? LOVE watching allll your videos, these scrubs are amazing!
the amount in ounces would depend on how much you are making in the weight of your batch. for a total of say, 32oz of product, 62% would be different then 12oz of product. I believe the recipe here is just the oil percentages, not the total product. Sugar will be the most weight of your product.
Hi, I knew to making body products and I just want to tell you that I so enjoy watching your videos! Unfortunately my math is not so good and I need to be able to convert everything into ounces? can you please tell me an easy way to do that or referred me to a video or site that can assist... Thank you for sharing
when trying to figure a percentage for a certain amount of ounces just multiply. For example, Ill just use 8oz of oils total , the first is the hard butter at 15%. You would take 8 x .15 = 1.2 oz and so on. The liquid oils are 62% so you would take 8 x .62 = 4.96oz. Just go thru the recipe for each percentage of ingredients to get your whole recipe in ounces. I love having percentages rather than total ounces because you can customize the recipe to accommodate very large batches or super small batches. DONT FORGET TO ACCOUNT FOR THE SUGAR YOU WILL BE ADDING!!
Um.. this is great but.... the recipe is impossible in the sense that you are way over 100%. Even before adding preservative and sugar you’re at 100% . Also you then go from presentages to actual weight. Can you clarify this?
Darcy Rosner I’m pretty sure that the preservative and fragrance shouldn’t be added into the total weight, but calculated as percentages of the total of the other ingredients which DO come to 100. Oh, and the sugar in a scrub doesn’t need to be measured as such, it’s more added till you get the consistency that you want.
You're right Catz... the butters, oils, wax, beesax, and stearic acid, makes up the 100%. Preservatives and frangrance oils are always measured in relation to the amount of the oils.
If you are looking for a vegan substitute you can use candelilla or carnauba wax. They generally can't be used in the same ratio as beeswax though because they tend to be a bit harder of a wax so your scrub would end up a much harder consistency. You would have to play around with the ratios a bit to get it where you like it.
The oils, butters, beeswax, stearic acid, and ewax all equal 100% this is the base recipe. The preservative, fragrance, and colorants all have their own usage rates, so the amount you use is determined by the size of your base recipe. For example, if her 100% recipe weighs 100g, and the preservative has a usage rate of .2%, you would measure .2% of 100g (.2g) into the batch. Most fragrances have a 5% usage rate, so that would be 5g. Colorants like micas are usually 1tsp per lb of oils (ppo). 100g is roughly 1/4 lb, so you'd use 1/4 tsp of mica. As for the sugar, it's subjective, add however much it takes to get the consistency you want. I hope my breakdown of the recipe math helps.
@@brookelynturner5684 omg thank you for this explanation! One thing, the preservative is only calculated on the base recipe and not with the weight of the sugar? I saw another video mentioned that the preservative was calculated based on the entire weight and so if more sugar was added then the preservative may need to be increased.
@@wadecountybabe correct. Preservative should be the last thing you add. After the sugar and fragrance are added to the base recipe, weigh the whole thing (don't forget to tare your bowl first). Take that measurement and add your preservative based on the weight of your product and the usage rate of the preservative. Example: your base recipe is 100g, +5g fragrance, +50g sugar = 155g batch size. So, .2% preservative = 155x.002= .31g preservative added to your batch.

thank you for the video. How could I get the exact measurements for the ingredients?
Hey hun how could I get exact measurements
Multiply the percentages by the amount you need.. soo say you want to make 6 4oz jars .. you need 24oz or 680g. So you multiply
680g x 15% =102g hard butters
680g x 62% = 421.6g liquid oils
680g x 8% = 54.4g e-wax
680g x 5% = 34g beeswax
680g x 2% = 13.6g preservative
680g x 2% = 13.6g fragrance
If you need measurements in ounces or any other units you just do the math the same way or do it in grams and convert later.
To check your math make sure percentages = 100% and make sure the numbers you get after multiplication equal the total amount you need to fill your jars (i.e. after multiplying everything .. all numbers = 680g)
