To me, aaron never sees the Mill as the Robert and him house but only as his own. Look at the way he always told him to leave. It was never an option for robert to stay when aaron didn't want him around. I'm sorry to say it because believing this place in the robron house is such a strong and romantic idea but i do believe enough robert knew he was still a guest in this house and he just accepted it. I think this place represent the perfect place for his family to live. But the thing is he was always the one who told to Robert to get out of the mill each time he was lashing out. And Robert, even after their reunion 2.0, probably always felt like he is just the guest of the mill.
