The Shazam character has many titles, including Champion of Magic, and Guardian of The Rock of Eternity. He's actually very important to the DC universe as a whole. He's in charge of keeping the magic world in balance and acting as a sort of ambassador towards magical creatures, which is why there are so many doors leading to different places in his lair.
I LOVE this movie so much. I never read much Captain Marvel comics so I'm not sure how comics accurate this movie is. However this movie has so much heart that makes me smile and tear, plus it's also the DCEU movie that kids want to watch when I babysit them.
Shazam is absolutely magic based as a source of his powers. I was interested in Doctor Manhattan's take on magic, which to him is nearly negligible. This was found in the story Doomsday Clock, which Comics Explained does a great job of going through.
Doomsday Clock was ok :) I particularly liked that magic scene too .. but I found Superman beating Jon TOTALLY RIDICULOUS .. I mean he could just wish Supes brain into the sun lets be real :) DC protecting thier number 1 wasnt it :)
@@markhill3858 (caution possible SPOILERS) Actually, Mark, from my dim recollection, Superman never beat Dr. Manhattan. He defended him which was an act of humanity and kindness, which in turn reminded Dr. Manhattan of his human origins.
Well Shazam not only looks like Superman, sort of. After the Crisis on Infinite Earths event in the comics it came out that Shazam (Captain Marvel originally) he is a Superman from another universe that was wiped out during that event.
The little caterpillar, at the end of the movie, is MISTER MIND! And yes, that villainous supername is kinda tacky, but... Trust me. That little dude is for real. He really DID name the Gods, thousands of years ago, and he is the single biggest threat to Shazam's entire existence!
Jerramy Renner was using his plow to get his neighbor out of a heavy snowbank. Once he got off the vehicle, it began to roll. He went to jump back onto it in order to try and stop it. He slipped and fell causing the unit to run over him. Fortunately, his neighbor was medically trained and able to apply a tourniquet to his leg until the ambulance arrived. He was then airlifted to the hospital. It is a Mirical that he did not die as that snowplow was 14 tons
Black Adams was the first champion but the wizards locked him away, and waited until Billy came along to Become SHA⚡️AM, they are mirror characters pretty much besides the color of the suits, Black Adam was the wizards first Champion, and Billy Batson was their second Champion they go hand in hand with each other so it was weird that the Rock didn’t as Black Adam didn’t want anything to do with SHA⚡️AM but only wanted a piece of Sup’s
It's actually kind of funny to me that you asked about Mary and Billy being an "item", because in the comics they're biological siblings. Twins, in fact. This was changed in the New 52 (restart of the comics) and she was made to be just Billy's foster sister instead.
Newfie, you might even consider reviewing the Doomsday Clock series or Watchmen, which was a GREAT DC movie if you have never seen it. Watchmen for the win!
All of the Justice League have sidekicks except Green Lantern. Wonder Woman has Wonder Girl. Flash has Kid Flash. Aquaman has Aqua Lad. Batman has Robin. Martian Manhunter has Miss Martian. Green Arrow had Speedy who is known as Arsenal now.
to answer the title question, no. The Wizard Shazam cant whoop Superman. But Billy in his Captain Marvel form can go toe to toe with him. Superman is weak to magic. And Captain Marvel is mystical.
This was a good DC movie. I still think that the best movie DC could make would be based on the life of Vandal Savage. Following him through his many lifetimes throughout history and his role in major events that shaped human history. Talk about endless possibilities.
I`m sorry that nowadays this universe is a complete mess. But I`m glad you are having this journey. I watch marvel films, but there`s something about DC films that I like more.
To think Captain Marvel at one point out sold Superman 10 to 1 in comics and DC wasn't having none of that, hence why they had to buy the company that this Character belonged to and make him a 4-5 stringer, but in reality Captain Marvel is as strong as Sups and as fast as Flash and has magic. In terms of speed Flash is over all and this dude second.

Speaking of shazam vs superman. Before the new52 Shazam post crisis shazam was just as strong as superman, had limitless stamina(superman did not)and he is faster then superman. QUOTE- Superhuman Speed: Captain Marvel is able to move at incredible speeds and is able to move so fast that he can seem invisible to the eye of the human being. Captain Marvels speed is said to surpass even that of Superman and rival that of the Flash, and can move at several times the speed of sound while running, swimming, and even performing "mundane tasks." Superman could fly faster in space for example. Shazam could fly at NEAR light speed. Shazam more energy powers then superman, but not as skillled and not as smart, and Invulnerability wise greater then superman,so on paper shazam was more powerful then superman and the same thing for black adam. Anyway shazam has beaten superman before and tie him and lost to superman. New52/rebirth shazam vs new52 rebirth superman. Hard to say who is stronger, but his bio says he could go toe to toe with superman strength wise so they are at least still equal. Invulnerability info does not say he is still greater but he is at least equal. Shazam still has greater energy powers. Shazam for running speed hard to say now and even flight speed but a few years ago his running and flight speed was not as fast as his post crisis verison so superman overall was faster and superman was more powerful, but i am not clear about his speed recently. I have look more into it. Now recent canon superman has got upgrade in powers from a white sun on warworld(look it up superman prime earth dc wiki) like strength for example and some other things but we see if it last.
His name isn't Shazam, that's the Wizard's name. His name is actually Captain Marvel. Fawcett Comics created him, DC comics sued them because of how similar he was to Superman and when DC comics eventually brought Fawcett Comics characters they resurrected him. Marvel Comics eventually created their own Captain Marvel called Mar-Vell & saw that DC comics never trademarked the name so threatened to sue if they kept calling the comics Captain Marvel. DC agreed to call the comics Shazam, but his name was never changed. That's why the running joke of the film is his superhero name. This film is based on Geoff Johns New 52 version where Billy transforms and still has Billy's mind. The original Captain Marvel was a separate person from Billy and while they knew what each other experienced they were both different. Black Adam is Captain Marvel's big villain, Teth Adam was given the powers of Shazam years ago but his Justice was different from how the Wizard wanted it and was imprisoned. He eventually becomes an antihero.
Watch the DC animated show Young Justice. Features the sidekicks but includes pretty much every character. The best DC animated show. It's legitimately good and you would learn a lot about DC.
The 1st champion that they chose who abused their powers was 'Black Adam'..(The Rock) as originally he is shazam's enemy..however Dwayne didn't like this idea..and turned 'Black Adam into an Anti-hero!.. you can see the results when you watch the "Black Adam" movie..did it all work out in the end?.. All I will say is make sure that you watch up until the end credits! ( oh yeah we have shazam 2 coming out soon..⚡️)
Great reaction and also love all your reaction to the DC movies! Don't forget to react to one DC movie you have missed... Constantine From one Newfie to another, think you would love this movie and shouldn't be missed from DC^^
Comic Shazam does not have unlimited power. Current canon shazam like current canon superman have near limitless super strength so strength wise they are equal. He does have limitless stamina,so he has one power that is limitless but most of powers are not. In comics shazam has beaten superman, tie superman, and superman has beaten him. Anyway he is superman level superhero. For the dceu both supermam and shazam do not have unlimited power either and it's not clear have they have equal strength or not.

DC negativity? That’s more a personal view than actual fact. If anything the darkest theme of any DC movie was the abandonment of a child depicted in this movie. But it needed this to help in Billy Badsons hero arc. This so called “negativity “ is brought in by individuals like you who like to voice their personal opinions as something factual which is terrible.
If we talk about stranght, he is not really at Superman level, but he is at tie with WW, but that in comics, in this movie he is very nerfed. He is also much more badass is comics, I don’t really like this adaptotion of him, but that is more beaucase i don’t like this movie, is my second least favorite movie in this universe, but i think the actor that plaies him is perfect casted(sorry for my bad english)
In the comics he's approximately equal to Superman (as close as anyone else gets). He's the guy other superheroes call whenever Superman gets mind controlled or falls under some evil spell or influence. He's the only one who can match Supes physically, although he doesn't have all the vision/breath powers. Yeah this movies nerfed him pretty hard, but it worked for the theme of him a newcomer with no idea what his powers are.
This movie is way too self-aware. Like the joke about" are you making an evil guy speech". It's not grounded in any sort of reality which makes it way too goofy. They could have done a serious take on the character and still had jokes via Billy Batson because he's a kid. In this it's almost like Shazam was 10 times more goofy than Billy Batson.

@@mr.moviemafia huh, never mind then. I could have sworn Elvis or some other famous person dressed as/was a fan of Nightwing. Might have been a fever dream then or a random idea someone said that was taken as fact by my brain.
Well ,originally almost every original Justice League hero have a sidekick in DC ... (Batman/Robin - Wonder Woman/Wonder Girl - Flash/Kid Flash - Green Arrow/Speedy - Aquaman/Aqualad ,and them togheter make the Teen Titans ;and there others later) ,Marvel has a little of them too (Bucky to Captain America ,for example) ...
This film was like BIG with superheroes
That piano scene was straight from BIG!! LOL
@@Augustus087 lol .. my recollection is dim also :) it wasnt Watchmen
One thing you should watch is the Swamp Thing show.
I love that you are now a Superman fan since you've taken this DC Movie journey!
Shazam is a fun time and movie , nothing more nothing less. Just a great time watching a movie IMO.
Excited for this one :) , i love Zachary Levi since (Chuck).
"Ohh, Mary and Billy, are they gonna become an item?"
...
WHAT.
This was changed in the New 52 (restart of the comics) and she was made to be just Billy's foster sister instead.
darla is the most adorable little girl💖💖💖
Love the shirt Bro ….DC #1!
Newfie, you might even consider reviewing the Doomsday Clock series or Watchmen, which was a GREAT DC movie if you have never seen it. Watchmen for the win!
"Oh, an eight ball? I used to have one of those..."
-newfie after a weekend in Montreal.
It's wild that Mr. Mind (the talking caterpillar) isn't the main villain of the sequel
i get so excited when i see your videos when i scroll
Sweet.. Thanks!
They tried to replicate Philadelphia. The shade of where the "mom" lived is in an actually bad area. LOL.
I really love this movie, glad you enjoyed it!
It cut him because the demons were out of his body and he was weaker so Shazam saw that and threw him side and took the kids and ran away.
Shazam is like a magic superman
to answer the title question, no. The Wizard Shazam cant whoop Superman. But Billy in his Captain Marvel form can go toe to toe with him. Superman is weak to magic. And Captain Marvel is mystical.
Great reaction , Btw The sequel is coming in march
Woot! Can't wait!
Hope Superman is in the new Shazam
Gotta love the Shazamily
This was a good DC movie. I still think that the best movie DC could make would be based on the life of Vandal Savage. Following him through his many lifetimes throughout history and his role in major events that shaped human history. Talk about endless possibilities.
SHA⚡️AM!
The champion they chose wrongly who released the deadly sins was Black Adam

Newfie: “I’ve never drank before”
Also Newfie: “the taste is nasty I don’t like it”
👀 👀
Yeah? I never drank to get drunk before. Never even finished a full alcoholic beverage before. I've tried beer, wine and some other things to taste them to see if I liked it which I didn't. :)
@@NewfieMovieReactions that's like me. I don't drink alcohol but I've tried sips of a couple different alcoholic beverages my friends were drinking. I have no interest in drinking alcohol or coffee. I've had sips of wine and beer and scotch and a pina colada. The only one I couldn't taste the alcohol in was a piña colada. So I've had a sip of somebody else's drink on four occasions I have no interest in alcohol I just wanted to see what it tasted like.
Next up! Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn.
I love your channel man you are Awesome
I appreciate that!
There was one more after credits scene that you missed... Unless it was not included in the version you watched, or if you cut it for UA-cam... It was about Aquaman...
Yeah I watched it, :) It just didn't make the cut for UA-cam. :)
Soon there will be a new shazam 2 😏⚠️
SHAZAM!
Biggest best advise , what ever your work is or what ever you believe in always put your family first they will always be there specially if they are a foster family or adopted one. why !? If they go out of their way to have you with them !? its not just because they want to have children ! its because they want to help and make you happy
Speaking of shazam vs superman.
Before the new52 Shazam post crisis shazam was just as strong as superman, had limitless stamina(superman did not)and he is faster then superman.
QUOTE-
Superhuman Speed: Captain Marvel is able to move at incredible speeds and is able to move so fast that he can seem invisible to the eye of the human being. Captain Marvels speed is said to surpass even that of Superman and rival that of the Flash, and can move at several times the speed of sound while running, swimming, and even performing "mundane tasks."
Superman could fly faster in space for example.
Now recent canon superman has got upgrade in powers from a white sun on warworld(look it up superman prime earth dc wiki) like strength for example and some other things but we see if it last.
hey what editing software do you use ?
DaVinci Resolve, It's free and it's awesome. :)
@@NewfieMovieReactions thank you sm
Now that you speak of it, you should totally do the rocky/creed series after you're done with the DCU, I'd love to watch that reaction
How have u not seen all these movies lol
28:58 bro every hero is orphan
Love the shirt, hope your becoming superman fan
Constantine
From one Newfie to another, think you would love this movie and shouldn't be missed from DC^^
0:48 comment whatta comment 0:54 .-Ernie Moore Jr.
I can't wait for you to see The Suicide Squad! :)
YOU NEED TO REACT TO BLACK ADAM NOW !
Such a nice movie!
was that kevin conroy in the beginning?
Comic Shazam does not have unlimited power. Current canon shazam like current canon superman have near limitless super strength so strength wise they are equal. He does have limitless stamina,so he has one power that is limitless but most of powers are not. In comics shazam has beaten superman, tie superman, and superman has beaten him. Anyway he is superman level superhero. For the dceu both supermam and shazam do not have unlimited power either and it's not clear have they have equal strength or not.
lol its just metal. its a replica but its metal and weighted so if you throw it at someone and it lands, it'll leave a cut, lol
33:09 dumped on kid who got older does not understand they make him powerful as a vessel. He thinks the power is his. They protect his body when it is their shelter--conveyed protection[-EMJ]. Billy said they are using him so deceive him lulling him to do their bidding. They with the powers allow his misperception of being the one with the power and in control.-Ernie Moore Jr.
He lets them out, he feels he is using Them, controling- lord of the henchmen-them to do His bidding...unaware he's just a shelter and concealment and a vehicle for travel.-Ernie Moore Jr.
This is where the Henry Cavill drama began. He refused to do the Cameo. Hence why it is headless.
Began? NI would say it began when they reshot Justice League.
I so agree; beer = nasty taste.
For your dc journey finale you should watch the original justice league
Bro he's the real captain marvel F this Shazam name. He was captain marvel like twenty years before marvel comics.
Ah ... you need to read Superman/Shazam: First Thunder ,is short (miniserie) ,excellent book (no so light ,unlike this movie but very "real") ...
This is a pleasant movie. No DC negativity on this one.
This is the only DC movie I can honestly say I love.
C mon now , ww1, the joker, the Batman, man of steel, acquaman, snyder cut , James gunn suicide squad ???
Literaly everyone has a side kid. Check Teen titans
This movie is way too self-aware. Like the joke about" are you making an evil guy speech". It's not grounded in any sort of reality which makes it way too goofy. They could have done a serious take on the character and still had jokes via Billy Batson because he's a kid. In this it's almost like Shazam was 10 times more goofy than Billy Batson.
well that's because the last one Zack Snyder did was BvS this wasn't a Snyder film
