This is the HOLLYWOOD SQUARES that I grew up on! I was glad to see some of the old-school Peter Marshall episodes on GSN, and to sample the wit and wisdom of the ultimate center square Paul Lynde! I sure wish GSN would air this version (and HIGH ROLLERS)!
This is a little trip down memory lane. I watched the Tom Bergeron version when it was on and the Peter Marshall version was before my time, but this is the one I grew up with.
What turned me off this show, was having John Rivers and Jimmy Bullock over and over each week. Jimmy Bullock kept playing the same idiot character (Monroe) from "Too Close For Comfort" and Rivers is just plain annoying.
This is the one I remember, too. Peter Marshall's version was completely gone by 1981. I did remember the 1983 revival with Jon Bauman - but I was also in school. I remember John Davidson's version being on in the late afternoon (5:30), so I was able to watch it. :) Name That Tune had just gone off the air.
The Bonus Round to this version was taken from another Rick Rosner Show Just Men! w/Betty White also, Stormy Sacks did the theme to Just Men!, The NEW Hollywood Squares and Caesars Challenge w/Ahmad Rashad I guess Rick Rosner must have had a good working relationship with Stormy and BTW, has "CHiPs" Stars Larry Wilcox, Robert Pine or Erik "Ponch" Estrada appeared on The NEW Hollywood Squares with Davidson?
Jim J. Bullock was okay to me, I liked him. But I agree about Joan Rivers, she WAS annoying, STILL IS annoying. Betty White would've made a PERFECT Center Square or even ALF.
They could've had someone better as the center square other then Joan Rivers. I agree that her voice is annoying as hell. Lots of other choices, maybe even a young Whoopi Goldberg.
Betty White should have been in the middle.
Did John Davidson requested not to show any of his version of Hollywood squares on GSN?
Betty is so great!

Wish This Game Show Was Back On The Air

Well, It's Jackie Collins' 1st Appearance on "THE NEW HOLLYWOOD SQUARES" Starring JOHN DAVIDSON and I'm Going to Miss Her so much.
It's funny, but being used to other versions of the show, I find this a bit hard to adjust to.

Bronson Pinchot as the center square. I don't remember that.
Don't be ridiculous!

Gotta love Betty White getting paired up with a 007 question.
@tpir1972 The series did start out being taped at NBC, then moved to ABC, Fox TV Center and Universal Studios.

T-Bone Hubbard The bonus round was also from "Just Men!", but shorter. Along with the losing cue.
Painful. John is a great host but those d list celebrities (except Betty White)
It sounds like NBC being the NBC catcalls are on this version.

The theme of this version had a slight hint of the second and third themes used on the Peter Marshall version.
