Ol' Man River

#MusicMinute 80 - "Ol' Man River" (1927) by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II was written to be sung by the great Paul Robeson, who played an African American dockworker in the musical "Show Boat." Hammerstein's original lyric included the N-word, which was maintained in early musicals and movies of Show Boat. Later productions replaced the N-word with darkies, colored folks, all we folk, etc.
