- CV90 or called Stridsfordon 90 (Strf 90) is a highly tactical armored combat vehicle family developed in 1984 to the early 1990s to meet operational requirements of the Swedish Army. It was co-developed by Saab Bofors Dynamics and Hagglunds, with Bofors responsible for the turret, armament, and final assembly, while Hagglunds providing the chassis and armored hull. BAE Systems Hagglunds currently produces the entire vehicle. The vehicle first entered service in Sweden in 1993.

I was in the Norwegian army when the Mk1 was brand new and very exciting. Cool to see the platform still on the leading edge of IFV technology. Which version/Mk is being sent to Ukraine?
CV9040 C version (Mark III), it is getting armor upgrade and probably some other systems as well.
@@johanbergman2343yup, what you said (at least from the pictures I have seen) also has some CV90 armadillos with a remote mounted gun on top
The soon to be burned out type.
Ok armchair generals, when you build an armor types of vehicle YOU have to test THAT EQUIPMENT.

USA (Ratheon) had problems developing the Excalibur round. Raytheon asked the swedes Bofors team and they fixed it!
Sure they did snowflake
Well this is an example of always asking the old man in your job or industry for help if you have a problem, they always have a solutions to everything.
Bofors has been in the business of producing weapons and artillery for almost 380 years, it is almost a safe bet they can help.
The bushmaster on the MK2 , THE CV90/35 are made in the US Not sure who makes the gun for the MK4
@@beachside1 Most export models use the bushmaster 35/50 or 30/40 and on the Swedish ones use the old and now almost legendary Bofors 40mm L/70. Only sweden has the MKIV so it is the Bofors 40/70 for now. 👍

@@Lillspratt from what I saw while patrolling the German Check border (Cold War) the reverse doesn’t always work and when it does they have a nasty habit of bumping into whatever is behind them, trees, BMPs, BRDMs, etc.
I was quite impressed by this presentation of *the magnificent beast - the CV90.* Not all but quite a few presentations of this formidable Swedish IFV I've watched on other channels have in general been somewhat unstructured and random, whereas this IFV summary followed an organized structure with pedagogic visuals. *Kudos.*
In December 2022, Slovakia ordered 152 CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles. BAE Systems will manufacture and deliver CV90s in several configurations, including the newest CV90MkIV.
Slovakia will love those, i am sure :)
@@benktlofgren4710 And actually we will produce turrets in Slovakia.
@@mareks7129 It Seems like an even better deal for Slovakia.
Contrary to popular believe this IFV doesn't belong on the battlefield but rahter in a museum because it's a piece of art.
Kinda funny how the crappy Russian stuff was in a museum and the good western stuff should belong in a museum
One day it will.. one day.
Its a joy to drive it, even with hatch down you have good sight on corners, at least going forward. Will also knock down 2-3 dm wide trees if need be. But not designed to go full on modern MBTs. Got thick armor and the Engine in Front so crew has a chance to survive direct hits. Hope it will preform well in Ukraine
I just love the engine sound of these Stridsfordon. Scania V8 engines.
The one's sent to Ukraine are not clearly specified, naturally, but are ones constantly upgraded models of the ones used by Swedish Army. That means thermal/IR/LS sights and AA variants, all with 40mm cannons and variants capable of transport soldiers, launch AT-missiles (SPIKE, and the likes) and possible even ECM variants, (though the latter unprobable).
Unlikely to have anti tank missiles.
@@AlexKall Yup, it's only MKIV having those now, I believe it'll be ordered for the swedish army soon.
@@opponenspericulo All Swedish CV90 are CV9040's A,B or C. All are based on the A model. So to equip them with AT-missiles you would probably have to change the turret.
@@ThorSuzuki1 Indeed, the turret is a LOT wider on MKIII &IV. Sweden are already looking around for a new MBT & IFV to be used post 2030-35, it may be inhouse, it may not. A good guess would be the Panther, but its still not a new generation tank.
Coolest Infantry Fighting Vehicle on earth! That pop up missile pod is almost too much 😂
It's worth noting that the CV90 is highly modular and thus most of the previous models have been upgraded. What Ukraine gets will be CV9040s on Mark IV level.
One thing that sets it apart, at least from the Bradleys and Marders I guess , is the possibility for the mounted troops to fight from the vehicle, opening up the combat roof and using LMG mounts and hand held weapons. Useful for shock tactics, when you really want to drive all the way up and around, hosing down the enemy .I've seen some videos of Ukrainian units going full speed all the way up the enemy positions and trenches, this could be something they like. It basically turns this little mini-tank into a gunship. sprouting a wall of fire and everyone just keeps their heads down.....
Commonly called bollhavet/the ball pit.
Better to take out the treat with 3p ammo from a distance, air burst over the trenches or in buildings with delayed impacts fuse.

the video mentions it briefly at the end but I'd like to note because it's interesting, CV-90 is equipped with the Israeli spike atgm, but unfortunately, Israel hasn't approved the delivery of spike missiles even from third countries, as an Israeli, I really hope that soon Israel will change its stance and permit some weapons, the spike missile is a real game-changer, it can be launched from thousands km without aiming at the target, the missile can choose the target or the operator can control and guide it, it can enter through the hatch of a moving tank(just to make it clear it can can also destroy a tank from every side) while flying towarsd the target it also provides intelligence on an enemy with its advanced camera, hopefully soon Ukraine will get those missiles.
" it can be launched from thousands km"
Meters.
"CV-90 is equipped with the Israeli spike atgm"
Only the Dutch units, the latest Swedish models use RBS 58 missiles, which have nothing to do with Spikes.
Som är franska MMP, har jag för mig.
Have Bofors canceled the development of the MBDA AKERON missile? They had a successful test in January this year. The video from Saab's youtube channel has over half a million views.
Is it canceled? Maby to expensive or something. It looked badass when the two missiles came up from the turret.
I would love to have one of these for those pesky snow days and slow drivers.
Hi. Know my opinion doesn’t matter but in IMO 🇨🇦Army / Fed Govt missed the mark by purchasing LAVs instead of CV 90 family. Dirty secret was in Afghan 🇨🇦Army had to bring in retired M113s to support mobility problems with LAVs. CV 90 with mods would’ve provided us with so many fixes - shame.
It was the sand which caused the issue, like the quick mods we had to do to the Challengers, as the very fine sand got threough the airfilters. Easy fix, though. We used cloth plugs over the intakes.

@@matsv201 you would have to make a new turret not just reuse the naval turret, kinda like the begleitpanzer 57
@@einar8019 well yea. I get that. But you can hardly both remake the turret and also put two people up there.
More reasonable you would rather decrease the armour of the turret (having in mide it would be longer distance from the front) and have the operators in the hull position.
That is actually already the case for the aa version of the cv90.. sort of. It still have 2 people in the turret, but also 3 people in the hull monitoring radar.
A 57mm version would need to reduce the crew by 2 to make it work.
The New CV90 Mk.4 with a 50mm Bushmaster Cannon could easily win out to be the US Army's next IFV. It is no doubt the Best one with all of it's High Tech and would most likely have more mods added to it to fit the US Army's future needs !! 👍 Semper Fi
The drawback of the 50mm system is the lack of ammo capacity of the 35 and 40mm system.
@@matsv201
Where do you even get this information from? Random guess based on bore diameter?
Because the 50mm Bushmaster uses a necked out 35mm round. The full cartridge is practically the same length as old 35mm rounds. Similarly the diameter of the cartridge is retained.
40x365 mm Bofors meanwhile is a gargantuan round which when you look at it can't even deny its naval roots. And it shows in terms of ammo capacity. Even getting the cannon inside the turret was a major hassle during the development of the original CV90.
So maybe next time do a minimum of research?
@@willyvereb no, i checked the ammo capacity of the vehicle. The 50mm have lower capacity.. i think it was down from 239 to 180 if i remember correctly

An all-around mechanic is gonna be a future-proof job in Ukraine. That and the construction business when the Orcs have finally been relocated.
Nothing being sent to them is "top of the line" it's all stuff other countries are more than happy to get rid of.
Last year Sweden was still neutral. Now they send Ukraine some of the most advanced weapons.
@RandomGuy9 Thank Putin for that. One of his claims was to stop the expansion of NATO. Didn't work that well did it?
Sweden actually stop being neutral back in 1992 but many people have no clue about it.
1992 it change to Sweden should be able to stay neutral from Sweden should be neutral before 1992.
That little be able give them the possibility to make a alliance with Finland and even a joined navy task group.
Maybe Russia should have thought about it before acting like a punk.
In 2009 Sweden ended a nearly 200 year long period of official military neutrality.
Official stance might be neutral but the actual stance is "armed conflict=bad". So when a nation is invaded by a motivated attacker that don't want to negotiate it needs to be defeated to get lasting peace. That's the goal regardless of who fights in the conflict.

When people ask me, “what’s your dream car?” Like it’s kind of hard to explain
The CV 90 is my favorite sports car.
It's interesting to see all comments questioning the cv 90 as an old 80's IFV. It's so modernized It's not the same really, there's 16 versions now, the weight with full modular armour packages have risken from 22 to 37 tons, with active protection systems, basically making them as well protected as the newer T-90 models.
People were terrifyed of the T-72B tanks before the war , a model developed in the beginning of 1960's, and the T-90. We see what has happened after a year. Sweden are one of a few countries not really specifying publically which and how many models they send, except that at least 50 CV90's are sent. Why go public with such things? It would be like Russia revealed that "we have 120 hypersonic missiles left, plus 290.000 artillery rockets/grenades left, watch out!"
"protected as the newer T-90".......a russian soldier with a RPG-7 destroyed one....😂😂😂
@@alejandrocasalegno1657 I was referring to the available active armored protection of course, the same kind that is installed in the most modern MBT's, designed to destroy the projectile before it hits the hull.

I say any western MBT and IFVs that has good optics like FLIR and night vision, will give the Ukrainians a huge advantage on the battlefield.
CV90120 is a quite a beast (120mm cannon) same with CV 90G (Ghost)
It seems like the only thing missing from the latest version is an active protection system. On every other count it seems quite capable but the lack of an APS is a bit of a glaring issue in a battlefield like Ukraine where so many Russian tanks have been destroyed by hand held systems mainly because they have lacked such a system.
It has APS
Thats why you have the 7 soldiers at the back. They solve that problem.

The cv-90 IFV is smart. Very smart
Id like to see a wheeled version of the cv90mk4 that isnt built to carry troops. Something tells me that if you removed the cv90's capability to carry troops, you could turn it into a fearsome assault gun or even a tank hunter.
