Honestly, managing other people's unrealistic expectations and lack of direct clarity in their communication (often not even knowing what they themselves want) and presenting layered and complex patterns and hypotheticals as simple, "user-friendly" concepts is already my full-time job as an autistic person just living in society, so tbh I feel like I'm built for this. 😅

I’ve been thinking about becoming a data analyst but I have a few concerns about what kind of data analyst and if it’s right for me. My main concerns are having enough time to pursue my hobbies. Which I don’t expect to goof around so much once I’m in the workforce, but I want to carry my hobbies into adulthood. I am also concerned that my ADHD could impact my performance, but I think training and getting experience with activities related to data analysis could solve that question.
My main reasons for being interested in this job is because I think it would suit me well, and the paycheck can hopefully fund my interests and hobbies as well as every day life. It also seems to allow flexibility in lifestyle since you can work remotely.

Only thing I disagree with is anyone can be a data analyst. I’m a project coordinator dealing with similar situations on a smaller scale and it’s definitely not for everyone. A lot of people would have a mental breakdown when you have so many demands flying at you. Glad they pay these people well they deserve it!

What qualifications and/or certifications do you think would be best to get started? I have a business degree and advanced/high level excel experience and I'm trying to learn R and Python currently. What would you recommend for a beginner transitioning from that background? Enjoyed your video. Very well presented. thank you

Hi @agathakang Agatha, thanks for sharing what it's like to be a Data Analyst in the real world, I would like to ask what software you use in putting the scope of work you showcase in this video together, I know it's not a word document, but I find it quite fascinating, and I will like to add it to my toolbox, as I'm looking forward to landing my first job as a Data Analyst sooner than later.

Hey! I was using quip - which is just a cloud based word document. It's good for working collaboratively with teams. You can check it out and I find it helps because it's a cloud based tool to access anywhere

Hi @agathakang, do you have any advice for getting started as a Data analyst? I have a masters in a computational science that includes data analytics as well as a few projects under my belt but I get looked over for entry level jobs because I don't have any experience :/

You touched on reporting briefly, I am curious what that looks like? Do you have to present your reports to groups of people? I interested in the technical aspect of the job and am fine with small group conversations, but speaking to a group as a presenter is my worst nightmare.

    Great informative video!
I am really keen on getting my foot into Data Analytics by landing my first job in the field. I'm a marketing graduate which covered a lot of business strategy on the digital side of things; I developed a lot of transferrable skills such as exporting and managing incident data at my retail IT helpdesk role for our customers and presenting my findings to directors and project managers, to figure out what technical issues are trending and why, as part of my unofficial account management duties.
Do you have any advice on how someone like me with no direct experience in proper data analytics could go about landing my first job in the field?

Thanks for sharing. If anyone has any tips for a teacher looking into this field and project management, I'd be really appreciative. I'm currently a teacher looking into a new field. I feel that I have quite a skill set I can readily transfer, considering my job the last several years has been analyzing data, creating a plan, and responding to the data in order to achieve results for my stakeholders.

Hey Agatha, I found your idea for Design Document is fantastic; do you have to have a video that explains it further? Or some sort of a template to start with? I struggles with documenting it in writings and it take a while to dug what the report or excel is all about from my subconscious.
