When you really think about it, DECtalk Paul is sort of like a canned memory , a recording of a voice that belonged to those who have long since gone. This echo from the past, constantly warping and being replayed and morphed by people, is sort of like a ghost; it is never the original, only a remnant. I think having this program sing a song about the deep sadness that comes with nostalgia, of knowing their creator can't return, of recalling fun without being able to return to it, is very poetic. It's incredible a memory (especially one that is impossible to update as the voice provider and hardware has long since gone) can develop and grow, how it was altered to fit a new context, a new purpose. I just think it's cool, when you really think about it, that an unreachable voice from the past is singing about that a future they can't reach. It gives me chills to think about.
Well said! I really appreciate the effort you took into writing this, it's so interesting to read about different perspectives and what you think about this video. It's poetic in a way, and I'm so glad it resonated with you!
I wouldn't call this a Moonbase Alpha cover not just because it doesn't use the OG software but also because DECtalk Paul just doesn't sound like DECtalk Paul. Pitched too high, sounds nothing like the real thing. I still like the video though.
@@invrl Strictly speaking, you’re right. DECtalk’s Perfect Paul voice predates Moonbase Alpha, so just using DECtalk Paul VCV doesn’t really qualify something to be a “Moonbase Alpha cover”. They’d have to actually run this song _in_ Moonbase Alpha, or while restricted to its limits, for it to be that.
I seriously don’t understand why I find DECtalk singing anime songs so appealing yet I keep coming back to Lagtrain and now this. I hope you understand that your work is amazing and is enjoyed by many, good luck on future endeavors!
The Blender model of the Astronaut replacing the girl in the original gives this cover it's own unique flair. DECtalk has a surprisingly good singing tone for an old "vocaloid".
DECTalk Paul and Kaai Yuuki (the vocaloid Inabakumori uses) both have this otherworldly breathiness to them. It makes them so compelling for these insane compositions that are so common in vocaloid. Genuinely, if there were ever a voice perfect for male covers of Inabakumori songs, it’s DECTalk Paul. You tune him so well!
Another interesting similarity between the two is that neither can be truly updated. DECTalk Paul’s source is likely dead and the specific hardware used to make him is entirely obsolete, and Kaai Yuuki’s source was in middle school when she was recorded so her voice has since changed due to puberty.
@@JmonsterNEO I think DECtalk Paul doesn't use concatenation synthesis and obviously doesn't use AI, but was formed from... I guess, analysis of waveforms. But it was still based off of Dennis Klatt's voice... the Klatt who died at 50 in 1988, from cancer, aha. And in later years, his voice had become affected by it, so he had a raspy voice in his later years, when he was around 40. Therefore, by the time DECtalk was announced in 1983, it was already too late to update. It's fascinating, as apparently Paul sounds very much like Klatt. If one tried 'improving' Paul, like with other synths, would we get something even closer to Klatt, or is his voice lost to time?
I'm hyperfixating on this and the lagtrain cover so bad pls don't stop making them (as long as you enjoy it no pressure lol) DECtalk Paul sounds so unique as an UTAU and you tune him sooo nicely
I adore every single Moonbase Alpha/DECtalk Paul cover of stuff. Idk why but the voice is just exactly robotic enough to be compelling. Please keep it up! Also man, you learned blender just for this? Amazing progress on that front.
Sorry uh… _I have nothing to say um-_ but the visuals and the cover is very great, especially the visuals as it is a pretty good take of the original visual and the voice well… _just as good as Lag train huh?_ Maybe even has more emotion from the voice as well so congrats!
PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE EDITS WITH DECTALK ITS SO GOD DAMN GOOD IVE NEVER SEEN A QUALITY THAT MATCHES IT. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO MAKE IT WORK WITH ICONIC TOUHOU SONGS OR JUST SONGS IN GENERAL THAT WOULD BE AMAZING
I love vocaloid compositions and I feel like you're really doing something incredible using this particular voice. You clearly have a great ear, especially when it comes to some of the harmonies you make, and it's made all the better by just how non-traditional this voicebank is. I can't wait to hear more of your stuff.
Tengo que realmente admitirlo, esto una verdadera obra de arte, la escucho todos los días y me encanta la animación, Lagtrain también es perfecto! Una calidad sumamente importante. 💯❤️❤️❤️
The animation is so smooth, the use of 3D Astronaut is so good too and to mention the vocaloid used here because damn it's sounds better than the original
It's cool how you're learning new stuff on top of some already great covers! Hope you continue to have fun trying new things out artistically, good job all around.
OMG DUUUDE YOU'RE BACK!! (゚ο゚人)) I'm glad you're here again with a new cover! It's cool that you donated your time to learning Blender for the sake of creating MV. The result is worth it! The cover is great as always!! I wish you continued success!
Thank u so much! I didn't have time because of so much schoolwork, but I'll be able to post more frequently now! It's always nice to see you comment on my stuff~ 。^‿^。
Everything about this is like a crazy, fucked up fever dream you can only remember pieces of once you wake up. I mean that in a good way, of course. The song's tempo, the animation, the leading and back-up vocals. Absolutely delectable.

I saw this exact same comment, almost word for word, on a cover of rainy boots
same but tbf it works for both cos both are similar in nature

got to love every moon base alpha cover, they are always so high quality and are always a boop. Absolutely awesome.

they're actually VOCALOID songs and not anime songs lol

(super fun visuals and amazing cover!)
Awesome, the custom models really show you care about these

How... how is there so much soul in this singing? Its robotic, yet I feel such passion in the vocals!
