He even went along with the plan to keep everyone out of his fight against Sasuke even knowing that Itachi would die in the fight. I’d say it’s safe to say Itachi probably told him the truth before the final fight. Kisame was a loyal member of the akatsuki but in reality he had no where else to go and also no ambition really outside of the akatsuki.
