    I’ve got a type ra block with a bad rod bearing in my garage, I’m trying to get motivation to build it, and now I’ve got the bug, 5 videos in and I’ve got a parts list. Just need to find a video that details the exact sizes of ring gap, and other clearances that is ideal for 450whp with a stock type ra block. Might even try stock rods and pistons. Just replace bearings and rings. Good rods and pistons are so damn expensive.

    Great video, but 500hp and not close decking a EJ257 is pushing it. Rated at 400hp max for semi closed here in the uk. Why not close deck it? Anyway great build 👌

    • @PMAutoworks
      @PMAutoworks  3 роки тому +1

      500hp and no close deck is 100% pushing it. If it was a build for a client we would closed the deck but since it was our own shop car we decided to test the limits of the block. As of today, the car has seen multiple track days and is still running! Thanks for watching. 🙂

  • @christopheredwards357

    What material forged pistons are they and is that an EJ257?

    • @VenturiLife
      @VenturiLife 3 роки тому +3

      The EJ255 / EJ257 are essentially the exact same block (apart from casting the EJ257 designation in etc.) along with the factory crank and rods, The difference on the STi (EJ257) is the piston dish and the heads. So the EJ255 heads can be fitted to an EJ257 and vice versa but you must use the right headgaskets.
      Factory pistons are hypereutectic ones on both from factory, but it looks as if he's using aftermarket forged ones here. With 500HP being the aim for this short-block it would be pretty much certain as the stock internals would suffer over 420HP or so, and ring-land failures a real probability. (Which can still happen with a bad tune / rings on forged pistons too btw, but not as easily).
      The cylinders are likely overbored to standard. Standard is - EJ257 = 99.5mm Bore x 79mm Stroke.

    • @PMAutoworks

      Yes. And we used JE pistons for this build. Forgot what brand rods we went with.
