That is, could be an excellent strategy to really, really piss of the illiberals. I can imagine how deflating it would be for Justinidiot to find out that his tax trick went directly to his opposition.
Regarding Sackville - Cobequid, individual candidates still count for a lot in Nova Scotia: the former PC member, who had previously been a popular HRM councillor, didn’t run again; before he won that seat in a by-election five years ago, it had been NDP since 1984 (gained, funnily enough, from the Tories amid their big provincewide win). I liked the quiz at the end (and, being a hopeless political history geek, got them all). One thing: although you noted that the Ontario legislature shrank in 1999, you didn’t mention that the BC house grew in 2009, resulting in both the Grits & New Democrats picking up MLAs.
In British Columbia there might be 3 seats tops if there lucky the conservatives are going to be very hugh in British Columbia, this is probably going to the biggest in history there saying for federal government
In total number of seats perhaps, but in John A Macdonald's last 3 elections every seat went to either Conservative or Liberal-Conservative MPs, all under Macdonald. Also in 1911 all 7 seats went conservative, and all 13 went to the centre right Unionist party in 1917. Conservatives also got 18 of the 22 seats in 1958, the other 4 going to the party that preceded the NDP. Also between the fall of the PC party and the rise of Harper's CPC, upward of 75% of BC's seats went to the reform/alliance party. BC has been fairly conservative for a lot of it's history. But yes, even Harper and Mulroney weren't able to get the level of support in the province that Poilievre seems to have. Hopefully that holds on election day.

What a ridiculous take. That's not how Parliament works. They are elected and if the opposition wants to trigger an election they can, or they can work together. This is how our democracy works. We don't govern off of polling, thank god.
I suppose the fact there WILL be an election and the liberals WILL lose next year. But yes, clinging to power, even by "legitimate" means is very much in the spirit of authoritarianism, and points to serious flaws in the system. We need recall legislation to boot MP's from office.
Elections is how you change governments in Canada. Not complaining. Or do you think governments in Canada should fall due to complaining instead of elections? Isn't the definition of authoritarian dictatorial regimes of a few that everybody should abide by? The CPC have a 3-0 record of losing elections they should have won against Justin Trudeau and always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when running against Justin Trudeau and the last three times it was Muslim bashing aka Harper's proposed Report A Muslim hotline and anti-abortion CPC candidates giving the Liberals a weapon to use against them. Abortion raised it's head again with Scheer and again with O'Toole. Now all the pro-choice CPC MP's are gone, having been replaced by pro-life CPC MP's. Ask yourself how the Liberals will use that next year? Introduce laws to protect abortion rights that the CPC will vote against is the most likely scenario and there you go the CPC will fall back into the trap that they always fall into when dealing with Justin Trudeau.
yeah but this is much different. Harper and the CPC both had approval in the low 30s by the 2015 election(CPC got 32%), and we'd had a year more of Harpers govt. Sure people may have been ready for a change in 2015, but the country full on hates Trudeau in 2024.

The election will be not in October it won't happen it's a possibility of the non conference vote is coming very shortly an yes the liberals have 20 that are not with liberals because they know there seats are gone in the next election. So ya you need to pay more attention an Jagmeet has said he will call it after his pension
Once the campaign begins, it's hard to see Poilievre keeping his support, since he lacks charisma. Harper and Doug Ford also lacked charisma, but at least they didn't look as bad.
He rubs people the wrong way. Like a pious know it all who will tell you what you should think and do. "Only I Can Save Canada!" is a message that won't stand up to scrutiny considering every authoritarian in history used that same message to gain power.
Wrong. Poilievre had charisma, just liberals HATE him. He will win an OVERWHELMING majority. Trudeau will be severely punished. Then the liberals will move back to the center and be competitive the next election after that

Ralph Klein in 2001 would have been an interesting option in the quiz, given that he increased his caucus size in 1997, and then again in 2001.
