Good morning everyone! Bowl 30 and a cup of Java and roll into another Blanchard Banger! Thank you Greg for the AWSOME content. Time to learn! Tight lines boys
I read somewhere that fish take advantage of a full moon to feed at night, using the moonlight to help them find prey. Therefore, the days during a full moon, fish are already full and don’t feed during the day. So there are normally 3 days of full moon where the bite is turned off. The opposite would be true for a new moon (bite turned on).
It’s partially true, But it doesnt mean you wouldnt catch any during the day. You still have your bite windows of low lights. It just enables fish to feed at night better. All fish feed all day. Its just that they have better opportunities during low light conditions. Which is why those bite windows happen to be during low light.
Yep, most predatory fish have very good sight. They are much better at distinguishing subtle differences in coloring and patterns in low light than we are (and better than most terrestrial animals in general). Bass are pretty good at seeing their prey in the dark period, and the full moon just makes it easier.
When the moon is down during the full or new moon during a clear day is when the big ones feed according to butch brown. Right after it sets or right before it rises is a great window. Night fishing during a full/new moon is spectacular and so are the days leading up to them and afterwards. Tactical bassing has a 10+ year old video on moon phases for night fishing which i have found to be 100% accurate in my fishing. Full moon nights best for dirtier lakes, new moon nights are best in clear lakes(Only time when fish are totally invisible for long periods), but both are still good.
Greg, really cool trip bro! I love sight fishing. It's awesome to see how they react, and get all aggravated, with a bait on their bed. Plus sending up the drone, when it's that clear. 😎 🎣 🛶
Greg, When i tournament fished many years ago, the club would schedule night tournaments during July and August on a full moon. The reasoning for this was due to the high fish kill in the live well during day tournaments. The fishing at night was normally pretty good. Great video as usual. Thanks
I agree with the moon concept. I have never done well during the full moon. The fish are definitely post spawn. I've been to Berryessa three weeks in a row. The bite is better in the afternoon, when the wind kicks up. Tight lines!
Hi Greg, we were at Melones yesterday and the bite was very tough in the morning, but as soon as the wind picked up from 12-1, the bite was on 🔥. The bass started chasing the school of baits. It became a 20+ fish within that time frame and we left the lake still biting.
I totally agree about the full moon affecting the fishing the next day; I think the bass gorge themselves at night under a full moon. Our tournaments have been a grind the next day. Greg, you had a slow day on Berryessa, yet those few fish you caught were nice and round. Those are the days that I enjoy the scenery and admire a pretty day on the lake. We may lose fish, but we don't lose a gorgeous day. 😊
I heard Scott Martin talk about swinging your rod from left to right or vice versa will cause you to lose fish if that makes sense. When you switch sides it changes the angle of the hook, that’s why you see pros running down the boat with fish. In a kayak it’s hard especially bed fishing so I try to give myself a little more room to fight the fish before it’s right beside the boat. IMO your options are either fight the fish further from the boat or heavy tackle and swing them in quick. Thanks for all your hard work and effort keeping us entertained. Tight lines from Syracuse.
Always appreciate your content Greg. You’re a great fisherman, and I’ve learned a lot from watching you as a newer fisherman trying to learn. Nice to see the failures as well as the successes. Makes you seem human like the rest of us! Keep doing what you do! Hopefully one day I’ll get to meet you or see you when I’m cruising around the delta!
You said the bite was not on fire, but that looked like a great day on the water! BTW, you have the latest greatest kayak, powerful motor, space program electronics, top of the line rods and reels........... and a dumbell for an anchor. 😂 love it! Thank you for taking us along again!
The Gilly hook up ratio- If you are using a medium heavy rod with the gilly, bump up to a heavy. When I first started fishing the gilly, I too had a lot get off when I was using a 7'6" mh fast action. I switched it to a small swim bait rod, 7'4" heavy fast, and it seems to have a much better hook up ratio. Loved the vid, absolutely beautiful lake.
Wow Greg great video content today it looked like an anglers perfect dreamland! It seemed it was a little doubtful at the beginning that sense of I can see so these fish, but why sure they not biting I’m throwing everything and the kitchen sink at em. Then the light was turned in different area and everything was fine. Way to stay in there and find your fish and share this wonderful day with us, thank you Greg take care and God bless.
thank you sir! yep, always feel like a full day out there gives ya the best shot at getting on some fish and rarely fish half days or just a few hours...plus I like fishing haha
Great job Greg, you got it dialed in after that initial period where the confidence meter was low! And you got them on various techniques including top water, I think that actually was one of your better Berryessa days, three of those were really nice ones!
What a nice treat Greg. Crazy clear water to fish. Challenging ,one usually doesn’t get such opportunities. Well you seemed to get the fish figured out. So cool to see the fish so clearly fighting trying to shake you off lol. As always good fishing with Greg. Good job dude. 👍🙏
My PB bass 9lb 7oz came on a full moon, with the underspin from the bank. That same day landed a 7 9 and 5 12 and a couple 3s. Hell of a day and it made me a believer in the full moon.
I love the full moon faze for early morning summer fishing, for sure! I always have good luck around full moons. Honestly, the warmth of the weather plays a factor as well, though. Like I've found the warmer, it is the better the full moon helps
Florida saltwater guy here. I always tend to struggle during and around the full moon during the daylight hours. I either try to get there very early in the dark or go night fishing.
I also agree with the bass feed at night because they can see better. The rule of thumb for salt water is it is slow, three days before and three days after a full moon. I believe same reason is they can see better and tide changes. Have fun alway
Hey Greg, love the videos. I once had the same issue a few weeks back with tons of roaming fish up shallow and some bedding but finicky. Learned that an extra small worm on a small trout jig head was the way to go. It could catch all those roaming fish even when they see you. But anyway great vid still a good day of fishing.
Hey Greg, I started using the popper you use in that same color and caught fish so I figured I would buy the smaller version. I have caught 2x the amount of fish on the small one as the normal one, you should give it a try
I was having major issues a while back with fish popping off and switched to a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG thin wire hook and I haven't lost one since...The hooks do warp a bit after catching a big one but it's I think it's worth it not to lose fish plus easy to bend back with a pair of pliers...I love your videos!
I agree with what you said about moon phases I don’t plan my fishing around it but after a tough day I will look and more often than not it is the day before, on, or after a full moon. Also when I know I’m around them and they aren’t eating something slow then I go straight reaction I fish something so fast that they either have to eat it or move out of the way lol
My take on the non biting fish. Since there was a full moon the fish had the opportunity to fill up during the night. They are simply full from a good night of hunting.
Greg great job and video Here from Georgia my pink full moon fishing log looked like this: Monday day before full moon0 fish Tuesday day of full moon 0 fish Wednesday day after full moon 8 buck bass spinner bait zoom yellow and red truck worms Thursday big girls moved in spawned and were hungry afterwards 8 pounder on a 8” Mag Draft 😎🐟💦💦💦 big girls show up two days after the full moon is my guess
Night fishing is better with a full moon. I never do any good during the day when having a full moon. But I've read it is better to fish during the day three days before the full moon and then three days after the full moon. But I just go fishing when I can. And don't really plan anything around the moon phases. Beautiful lake and another great video Greg. Good luck to you and All the crew in the next tournament.🙂🍺👍
Had similar day yesterday with fish just cruising around, jerk bait worked best for me. Imo the way your weight is rigged on your gilly is why your losing fish, it helping them throw your hook! Great video again! Thanks for sharing
Greg which launch ramp would you recommend for Lake Berryessa? I have only ever been there once and I launched my kayak from the Markley Cove Resort. I did not like that part of the lake ( = I didn't really catch many fish there).
depends on the time of year but i would say in spring/summer go to putah creek ramp or even the north shore day use area and get to the east side of the lake. lots of fish in those tree but they can be tricky
Full moon fishing is great the day of and that night.. the next day it typically starts to fall off.. also slow down on hooksetting with bed fish.. they will not fully bite sometimes, just pick up the bait to move it off bed.. what ive learn is not to watch them pick up, but what till they swim with it and set the hook softer
I had a very similar day where i saw 10 fish over 3lbs in a quiet calm day, then i moved to a point with some wind with a chatter and started nailin em
A full moon definitely effects fishing for one they can feed more at night it’s like if you put a light in the water at night & usually you see smaller fish being drawn to it & so big fish take notice for sure any easy meal for a bass is for sure going to het eaten.
Try frog colored choppo around the trees and every where else during the full moon time. I also try to fish during the solar peroid of the day during my fishing trips . last Friday April 26, 2024, I caught 14 large mouth bass largest around 4 lbs. on a Whacky earth colored worm and a Jigk rig color green and blue, red, gold flake worm. I usually catch fish before and after a full moon.
Coffee ☕️ is excellent hot and sweet and Greg Fishin Yes lol. Clear bright sunny days Are Tough. You should have made one pass ,saw the fish and then moved out farther and thrown back towards them. If you can see them they can see you Greg. I think they were Pre Spawn because of all the storms in California, the spawning got moved up just sayin. Thanks for the video bro can't wait for the next one.
Hahaha looks exactly like it does way up north by me in upper Wisconsin. When its crystal clear and dead slick we go down to waaaaay thin line like 5-8 pound test and throw ultra finesse setups like hair jigs and tiny swim baits and ned rigs and such. Might be worth the investment in a super light JDM rod if you're starting to see these conditions more Greg 🙏 awesome vid
Greg I had the same problem with those powerbait blue gills with hooking up and fish staying on. I lose more fish on those than any other bait I've used. Maybe try a different way of running a hook through it. You can try to nose hook it or possibly hook it the same way but have the hook go through the bottom part of the bluegill or through the top like offset
Greg, with the bed fishing and that big thick gilly, try a heavier rod and really hitt’m when you set the hook, that’d be the next thing I’d try 🤷🏻♂️lol !!
I feel your pain Greg 🤣 had a friendly tournament against a friend and missed 6 fish on the fluke. Still got the win but man is it a pain when they fall off
In my experience also fishing around a full moon before or after. Fishing is horrible. Assuming they take advantage of the night light to feed up . Berry is looking great now that it is full again.
The larger the moon, the tighter your bite windows are throughout the day. The bite windows will be smaller but more intense and you have a better shot at a 10+lber during that time than a half-moon or new moon.
Love to wake and bake to a new video from Greg. Truly enhances the high
Good morning everyone!

Ya I always just assumed they fed all night In that full moon light as well.
It’s partially true, But it doesnt mean you wouldnt catch any during the day. You still have your bite windows of low lights. It just enables fish to feed at night better. All fish feed all day. Its just that they have better opportunities during low light conditions. Which is why those bite windows happen to be during low light.
Caught some of my biggest bass the day after a full moon , I've also gotten skunked the most so it's hit or miss
Makes sense, especially since in this video he wasn't getting any bites in the morning. Closer to afternoon was when he started getting more bites
Yep, most predatory fish have very good sight. That drone footage is absolutely stunning.
Greg i know you aren’t a big glide bait fisherman. But a klash nine deadwalking in some clearwater is irresistible for these bass this time of year
Heard too many good things about the klash baits and I bet on a day like this that would've had the potential to stick some good ones
$130 for one bait tho
I love that these videos show that its not always sunshine and rainbow, that there are hard days but you still manage to stick up some nice fish
As always two thumbs up Greg. Thanks for all your hard work.
👍👍
Seein the water back up in the trees again makes me wanna take a trip back
Greg, really cool trip bro! I love sight fishing. It's awesome to see how they react, and get all aggravated, with a bait on their bed. Plus sending up the drone, when it's that clear. 😎 🎣 🛶
same! yeah, super clean water for that drone footage!
Beautiful scenery and lots of bass, couldn't ask for more..
yessir you said it
Also, love a black buzzbait on a full moon night.
Think I heard the chuckle with massive balls back here…… we as men will always be kids at heart 😂😂😂
😏
4:04 am in SoCal and I have insomnia. What can be better than a GB fishing video?❣️Perfect timing💯👍🏼🥰
Smoke weed before bedtime you'll be out like the lights
I'm always at work at 4:30 am when I get the notification of a greg vidio. "Yes" get to watch a Greg Blanchard vidio when I get home from work.

Great vid bud. Heady fish. I'd love to see you go on a hunt for a giant some day. Cheers

haha it definitely turned around for the second half. Love my dumbbell anchor and zip lock baggy bait storage! lol
Greg, I love your anchor system mod! LOL sometimes simple and basic is the best.
haha it does the job!
Don’t forget to “LIKE” the video guys.
Good times and glad to see the lake up up
That clear bass footage!!! omg❤❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍
Seeing all those bass and bait balls, that's one health lake. Best of luck on your next Tournament.
Wow that lake is gorgeous, keep crushing them Greg🔥

Another solid vid, thanks for sharing GB!
Great job Greg, you got it dialed in after that initial period where the confidence meter was low! And you got them on various techniques including top water, I think that actually was one of your better Berryessa days, three of those were really nice ones!
Berry with the lake near full is a different ball game! hopefully the quality fish and bite continues on into summer!
Greetings from Redondo Beach 🇺🇸. Nice fishing video. Cheers 🥂
Late to the party, but here for the adventure. Good stuff GB.
Great video Greg your one hell of a fisherman
What a nice treat Greg. Crazy clear water to fish. Challenging ,one usually doesn’t get such opportunities. Well you seemed to get the fish figured out. So cool to see the fish so clearly fighting trying to shake you off lol. As always good fishing with Greg. Good job dude. 👍🙏
just found my new fav fishing channle love ur vids man
You see them they see you ! Flat calm crystal clear water = light line and long casts 👍
Hey Greg, thanks for the sticker and lures!! You are the man!
Top water bro. Worth a try.

Whenever this guy upload his videos, its gonna be a good day! 🤣
Love the early morning uploads
Dude its crazy, every time i go to a lake your there around the same time 🤣
Absolutely stunning drone footage 👌🏼
thank you sir! i was stoked to see how it came out when i got back home and imported it haha
I wonder if you could use that to scout beds, analyze, and NAIL bait presentation on that ol’ Gilly 🧠
Awesome content!

During the full moon combined with 50+ degree nights 5+ pounders on glide baits super slow retrieve
Hey Greg, I started using the popper you use in that same color and caught fish so I figured I would buy the smaller version. I have caught 2x the amount of fish on the small one as the normal one, you should give it a try

Pack up and go to lake henessy down the road had some 20-25lb bags there
I had a very similar day where i saw 10 fish over 3lbs in a quiet calm day, then i moved to a point with some wind with a chatter and started nailin em

At 7:10 did you see those two chubbies swim by?
What do you like better, poppers or walking topwaters?
Try frog colored choppo around the trees and every where else during the full moon time. I also try to fish during the solar peroid of the day during my fishing trips . last Friday April 26, 2024, I caught 14 large mouth bass largest around 4 lbs. on a Whacky earth colored worm and a Jigk rig color green and blue, red, gold flake worm. Sick vid , berryessa is holding giants at the pop creek day use waters , it’s a tuff doc but jigging is real over there
Greg, with the bed fishing and that big thick gilly, try a heavier rod and really hitt’m when you set the hook, that’d be the next thing I’d try 🤷🏻♂️lol !!
I feel your pain Greg 🤣 had a friendly tournament against a friend and missed 6 fish on the fluke. Still got the win but man is it a pain when they fall off
Come fish the lakes in Texas!
I've had some phenomenal days on the day before the full moon once it's full terrible fishing from my experience
Any recommendations or suggestions on adding foot pedal steering on slayer max 12.5 2022 model I'm running a nk300 and using stock steering and rudder
Moonlight I heard is good for the fishing especially catfish at night
One thing to try is maybe a worm hook instead of an ewg. I like to stay away from ewg unless the cover is so thick you need it.
Hey Greg, what mount do you use for your fish finder to mount it to the captains bridge? Appreciate it!
Fishing for me has always tough after a full moon I think because they can see to feed when it's a full moon
In my experience also fishing around a full moon before or after. Fishing is horrible. Assuming they take advantage of the night light to feed up .
Berry is looking great now that it is full again.
Bruh I know you laughed a little bit when you said “two massive balls over there”.😂😂
Greg. I didn't see your 360 on today ????
The larger the moon, the tighter your bite windows are throughout the day. The bite windows will be smaller but more intense and you have a better shot at a 10+lber during that time than a half-moon or new moon.
