German Verb Practice: schlafen

  • This video is a simple but thorough introduction to the German verb 'schlafen' in its main tenses with ten fill-in-the-gap exercises to practice its conjugation. The present tense conjugation - including the two irregularities in the 'du' and 'er/sie/es' forms - is explained, as are the base forms of the two past tenses, the future tense and some useful idioms. There is a chance for you to practise your conjugation by pausing the video and trying out the ten example sentences on the second slide, using 'schlafen' in a variety of contexts and restarting the video to mark your answers.

    Marmots hibernate throughout the winter! It’s a cute phrase but it’s no longer used so often. I haven’t heard it in decades. Ich hab' letzte Nacht geschlafen wie 'n Stein!😊
