This has always been my second favorite Dylan song next to If You See Her. If a woman ever walked up to me and said "Your debutante knows what you need, but I know what you want" I'd marry her in a heartbeat.
the Cat attacks this Bob Dylan song with an aggressive approach and Cat-Power. For that, I agree with you. so now, I'll go read my 20 lbs. of headlines . . .
Cat's cover of this Dylan gem is performed aggressively and with brash confidence. It moves like a train rolling down the tracks. Yes, it's a slow, slow train comin', up around the bend . . .
Old is Gold, it's true also, and Bob Dylan is one of them, I always listen his songs while working. One day my friend he gifted me mouth organ, on Xmas,(secret santa) but what is the best thing he did, on that gift cover he wrote " J Dylan" really it was unforgettable moments,
Thank you Cat Power! What a fine tribute to the original feeling of this song. I have loved Dylan from the start and now love you too just for this alone!
And the ragman draws circles Up and down the block I'd ask him what the matter was But I know that he don't talk And the ladies treat me kindly And furnish me with tape But deep inside my heart Lord, I know I can't escape Oh mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of mobile With the Memphis blues again Shakespeare, he's in the alley With his pointed shoes and his bells Speaking to some French girl Who says she knows me well And I would send a message To find out if she's talked But the post office has been stolen But the mailbox is locked Oh mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of mobile With the Memphis blues again Mona tried to tell me To stay away from the train line She said that all the railroad men Drink up your blood like wine And I said, "Oh, I didn't know that" But then again, there's only one I've met And he just smoked my eyelids And punched my cigarette Ooh mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of mobile With the Memphis blues again Grandpa died last week Now he's buried in the rocks Everyone still talks about How badly they were shocked But me, I expected it to happen When I knew he'd lost control He built a fire on Main Street And shot it full of holes Oh mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of mobile With the Memphis blues again When Ruthie says come see her In her honky-tonk lagoon Where I could watch her waltz for free 'Neath her Panamanian moon I said, "Oh, come on now You must know about my debutante" She said, "Your debutante knows what you need But I know what you want" Oh mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of mobile With the Memphis blues again Now the bricks they fall on Grand Street Where the neon madmen climb They all fall there so perfectly It all seems so well timed And here I sit so patiently Waiting to find out what price You have to pay to get out of Going through all these things twice Oh mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of mobile With the Memphis blues again
Yes it does sounds like Bob Dylan aka copycat which is pretty good. Like those who sing like other unique artists.... It's amazing how the copyright of Dylan songs are covered with licenses giving the publisher and Dylan a percentage of this copy "cat power" and exactly why the students in school during his top of charting times studied his musical poetry. It last the time of years pasting us all.... Yeah Bob Dylan!
@baddancer73 This is "Memphis" sounding because it was actually recorded in Memphis..with "The Memphis Rhythm Band" I wish she would put that together again. My very favorite Cat Power period!
I didn't want to like it. I passed it off as I read the first three positive comments...I kept listening as I once again marveled at the lyrics. I looked the lyrics up...for the hundredth time...as I did I started hearing the horns. Huh. That's cool. But it's a chick singing. But she's doing pretty well. There's enough of the classic versions elements to keep me …the girls killing it...the horns are killing it. Shit. She's killing it. Not an easy accomplishment. Great job lady.
Cat Power- best cover in a generation! Goddess , Music Legend.
Her Smokey voice too this cover sally gives it an extra dimension.
I agree ! Difficult but done !
The 1966 thrill is back. I was 18 back then. How good it feels !
She captures the essence of this badass song.
This has always been my second favorite Dylan song next to If You See Her. If a woman ever walked up to me and said "Your debutante knows what you need, but I know what you want" I'd marry her in a heartbeat.
Your comment is really cool. I'm just saying. Plus, this is a really great version of a Dylan classic.
I was nervous like many here. But when i heard that rough lower register i got excited!
Probably one of top 3 Dylan covers ever...
Johann,
Surprisingly so! I agree with you!
i'm really hoping Jimi Hendrix is in that top 3 covers list..
One More Cup of Coffee by the White Stripes
She gets it ,totally 👌🏻
the Cat attacks this Bob Dylan song with an aggressive approach and Cat-Power. For that, I agree with you. so now, I'll go read my 20 lbs. of headlines . . .
What a masterpiece cover...
Such a great voice.
Really great song, and a really great artist

WOW! Really great cover of this legendary song. BRAVO!
amazing lyrics.......Dylan...national treasure....
It’s a great cover. I love this song.

I love this ❤🎉
Huge Dylan fan. Favorite version. Love her.
A great version, the addition of brass is a good move.
And the ragman draws circles
Up and down the block
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk
And the ladies treat me kindly
And furnish me with tape
But deep inside my heart
Lord, I know I can't escape
Oh mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells
Speaking to some French girl
Who says she knows me well
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked
But the post office has been stolen
But the mailbox is locked
Oh mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Mona tried to tell me
To stay away from the train line
She said that all the railroad men
Drink up your blood like wine
And I said, "Oh, I didn't know that"
But then again, there's only one I've met
And he just smoked my eyelids
And punched my cigarette
Ooh mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Grandpa died last week
Now he's buried in the rocks
Everyone still talks about
How badly they were shocked
But me, I expected it to happen
When I knew he'd lost control
He built a fire on Main Street
And shot it full of holes
Oh mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of mobile
With the Memphis blues again
When Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon
Where I could watch her waltz for free
'Neath her Panamanian moon
I said, "Oh, come on now
You must know about my debutante"
She said, "Your debutante knows what you need
But I know what you want"
Oh mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Now the bricks they fall on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb
They all fall there so perfectly
It all seems so well timed
And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice
Oh mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of mobile
With the Memphis blues again
素晴らしい👏ディランの世界観を崩さず独自のカラーを打ち出している。演奏も素敵‼️
Class hard to pull such a song like that off
Brilliant ❤❤❤
great song, vocal and images
i was really scared to see that someone covered one of my favorite bob dylan songs, but beautifully done!
Yes it does sounds like Bob Dylan aka copycat which is pretty good. Like those who sing like other unique artists.... Outstandingly done by a very talented & lovely lady IMO.
Fantastic slideshow!
Very difficult to do justice to a Bob Dylan song. This is excellent.
This song is a very nice cover of mt favorite Dylan tunes. Chan is a very good singer!
bravo ...excellent ...
Impossible to listen and not see myself in an audience with everyone on their feet dancing!!!
Im a major Dylan fan but i must say i like this cover as much as the original...I wish Cat would do an entire album of Dylan tunes...
Now she has.
a superb version!
@baddancer73 This is "Memphis" sounding because it was actually recorded in Memphis..with "The Memphis Rhythm Band" I wish she would put that together again. My very favorite Cat Power period!
I knew from the first few notes that this would be a good cover.
other thing I don't like is the way she sings "ma ma".
boomerlady great song
Why isn’t this lady better known? She has a fantastic voice
In my opinion ,the best Dylan cover ever
Wooow, really really good! The movie I'm not there brought me here.
What a beautiful video ❤

this song fits her like a glove
Well done. Pleasant surprise.

Excellent perforance.

Now thats music!!
I too love her version. All songs from "I'm not there" are great. And she's cute
Giving the Memphis treatment to a classic Dylan tune about Memphis. Why didn't anyone think of this before?
Positivity good!!
great voice and great version aswell
Bob Dylan es grande.... y con la voz de cat es maravillosa!
best dylan cover I've ever heard
Power Cat! Great cover :)
Great pics. I love it
Another great version goes back to July 7, 1989 -Grateful Dead Live. You can find it on UA-cam.
Surprisingly good for a talk-through. Great band behind her.
I bet Mr. Zimmerman digs this
😎🎶💕
Great job
Wow / so cool / female BD / great voice ...
Brilliant
dude this is so amazing
Fab voice
My favorite Dylan covers are by woman. This one and the other is "Born in Time" by Helen Schnieder
wonderul!
From the "I'm Not There: Original Soundtrack" (2007, Columbia), in case anyone was wondering where this Dylan cover comes from.
Thanks. I was wondering about the band backing her on this track. I loved every track from that movie.
hearing The power of this song is like being poleaxed but in a good way
awesome
good one
Yes now that was a great version 🎉😅
Very good version. Not so easy to cover dylan successfully but this awesome artist does that
heart heart heart heart heart heart

finally a good cat power cover
She did not get enough credit for all these great covers
🌿🌿🌿🌿
usually I looooaaaathe dylan covers, but cat power gets it right!
Though it's only avaiable in bootlegs, Elliott Smith also did a fantastic rendition of Ballad of a Thin Man and made it his own.
I agree. I think she covers dylan just right.
This one's straight for you babe.
Cool
🎤👏👏
Happy 41st Birthday, Cat Power!
yu have such a 60s look!
Fuckin A Class cover!
@turquoisebabies listen to the production on this track...does this sound like it could possibly come from an "obscure" release?
this is good!~~~~~~ Like the occasional altho sax or whatever......
she just released a new album, "sun". check it out!!
Amazing version! My only prob with the OST is pavements song was good so I saw them live some years ago
They were shit and they have less than 5 good songs. Cat power is cool tho
Wow!
Can anyone help me out with a Cat Power album recommendation?
Sun or The Greatest. Then circle back and start from the beginning. She will crush you with a feather.
she should do more Dylan
dont wait for heaven - its here
omg she sings perfectly like bob dylan
yow! 👻👻👼👌🐧🎃🐱🏍
Catpower would do this song :)
I love Cat when she is coherent-Has this been recorded?
discuscusack
great cover - very close to the original (though not sure if that's a compliment or not)
- her voice is increddible of course
Great version but she should have said "mama" the way Dylan did. There's just no topping it!
Dylan never looked so good.😊
