About thirty years ago we were taking chicken livers and soaking them in strawberry banana jello for a day or two. Would toughen up the liver enough to stay on the hook. Here in my area I simply use fresh shrimp for bait. It catches some nice two to five pound fish consistently.

I personally don't think the red color does anything. Especially if you are fishing 12ft or deeper. Red is the first color that disappears in deeper water due to the lack of light. No light, no color. I believe the smell is more important than the color.

That'll be the day I take good food off my plate to feed the turtles! Same with the guys who are throwing shrimp away! I don't care if it does work! I have to work to be able to feed on a few shrimp every now and then myself. I love to eat catfish as much as the next guy. During the week at work j probly eat a hot dog for lunch 2 or 3 times a week. I really love a good steak and I'll probly throw one on the grill every 2 or 3 weeks sometimes with a few shrimp! But using good chicken to catch a fish? And to use shrimp to get a catfish? Makes about as much sense as tits on a bull! Or spending a dollar to make a dime! Using a steak to catch a hot dog? But on second thought I shouldn't be surprised such brilliance coming out of the same great state that was completely bitch slapped by 2 inches of snow with record numbers of halfwits either freezing to death or gassing themselves by running generators in there living rooms!

You want to amp up your bait. Ditch the oil. Use the garlic and any coloring you want. I personally use strawberry jello powder. Now for every one breast use one raw shrimp. Doesn’t have to be big just raw. Use as much shrimp as you want but one per breast is enough. Put the shrimp in a blender and add just enough water to emulsify. Mix this in with your chicken and all your color and garlic. Liver doesn’t work well with my technique. The last part is best. Put curing salt in the mix and work everything together real good. Put in zip loc and refrigerate for a week. Your chicken will toughen up and stay on hook for several fish. Your fingers don’t turn red once cured. And they smell like garlic shrimp for the price of chicken. I still have some from the end of last yr and it’s still good. I fish Sandusky Ohio for channel cats and you can’t keep them off this bait. Tons of cats over 10 pounds and many in the 15 pound range. 75 fish in a day is doable in the right places. All in the daytime. I’m sure the bait in the vid will catch fish. But my bait doesn’t go bad and stays on the hook and keeps your fingers from getting red dye on them even though the bait is red. The cure locks it all together. By the way I’m all catch and release. If I want to eat fish I’ll go to a restaurant and eat sea fish. Not a fan of the taste of freshwater fish except for walleye.

The Kool-Aid Is Good But The Jello Is Way Better!!!!! The Jello Pulls Out The Excess Moisture From The Chicken & Making It A Lot Tougher For The Catfish To Simply Suck It Off The Hook. It Even Works On The Chicken Livers Too!!!! Tougher Baits Equals Better Hook Sets Equals More Fish 🐟

I’ve been fishing for trophy cats for over 20 years, and fishing in general for over 30, and in all those years I’ve never caught a single decent catfish on chicken. I’ve caught a few channel cats and a few bullhead, but that is literally it. I’ve tried with and without kook aid, with and without garlic, and every other combination I could think of, and nothing.
Maybe you the catfish in Texas just have a more refined appetite than here in Ohio. I’ve caught a 106 pounder, a 98 pounder, and ten more over 50 lbs, and every single one of them were caught on live bait.
I’m going to the paylake tomorrow. I will make some of this to your specifications and let you know if I catch anything. This might work in the paylake, but I can’t see it working in the Ohio river

I don't even bother with chicken; I just use hot dogs with kool-aid and a little garlic powder. It's by far the best catfish bait I've ever used, and not just for channels either. I've had a bunch of 15-20lb flatheads, and it works just as well for carp (and striped bass) too.
