I really loved the scanner thing. It made you really feel these were paranormal demons just destroying people. They came in various sizes too based on who it is. If you have played SMT before and this was your first time with this one, it felt funny seeing a giant scanner target, and it's just throwing out 1 shotting phys skills. I was like 'Is that Oni? OH THAT DAMAGE, I THINK THAT MAY BE ONI." then you scan it and have that "AHA" moment. It made it scary and fun at the same time. Very sick unique system that also fits thematically.
Looking forward to your SMT4 video. And thanks for this one! I'm currently playing SMT4, but never played this game. And with all the stylistic overlap between the two, I appreciate your overview of what Strange Journey was all about.
Hey Kurxse! I appreciate you labelling this video with a Creative Commons license. I'm making a video about the history of its composer Shoji Meguro and I have no good way of capturing DS footage, so you're a life saver! 🙇 Video should be up in a week; expect a credit on screen and in the description box! Glad I found your channel. Also, nice to see a video on Parasite Eve in 2024!!
This video is amazing and honestly only have one critique: Please make the music a little quieter then your speaking, it made it a little harder to hear then I would’ve liked
One thing, actually this game is one of the ones where strength is rather optimal for survival. Yes, for beginners, having access to some magic and what not is nice, but they cost energy. In this grindy game, you can run out quickly and can put you in some compromised positions. Having access to strength firstly scales with the guns damage, and guns are your main form of self defense, shotguns in particular make things rather easy backed by a good deal of strength, smashing holes in the enemy line, for your demons to clean up with the specializations you've put them in. Acting as the basis of your teams plan works very well. Once you get the combat down and LEARN FUSING, I recommend have your demons cover the magic part, and summon them as necessary. Non-magic based combat allows you to hit majority of things hard without worrying about energy or what they're weak to. Beyond this, later on you get access to rings and melee weapons which when certain ones are in conjunction with each other, creates an auto-defensive set-up for you, by way of auto-countering any attackers very VERY hard, while pushing your own offense. On top of this, guns come with elemental bullets a lot of the time, using the correct gun for certain demons and using normal attacks for all that is left leaves you very well ready without burning all your magic and tools early. In the long dungeons this game has, as well as some of the terrifying bosses, being efficient with your resources through strength is very advantageous.
This is the video I’ve been looking for !!! Going over the story fully and not just the gameplay mechanics. Def looking forward to seeing anything else you make in the future !
I'm very eager to continue Strange Journey, it was very fun from what I can remember but I've been focusing on other entries since I got kinda burnout of MegaTen xD
I still have nightmares about ouroboros and mem aleph. I didn't beat this game, it beat me, about to start my fourth playthrough on redux this time, send help.
Redux‘ quality of life features will probably take off the edge. Strange Journey‘s bosses are all about the party. A fire casting party of same allignment demons will work wonders on Ouroboros, whereas you should keep your allignments diverse for mem aleph
Another awesome video on one of the more pACKED games in the franchise! This one used to be my biggest fave, no matter how many times the gameplay beats my ass. :') If I were to suggest something, I'd suggest turning your voice-over volume up and the music down? I love jamming to SMT tracks too but it gets a little hard to hear you over it at times. xD
A little tip. Do not use Magic on your MC if you want to do damage. All his attacks (Yes even elemental gun skills) scale of Strenght. Magic affects your defense against other magic skills and yoir max MP
loved this video you explained everything really well but i think its pronounced HEEmenez also the music was a little too loud at times making it hard to hear you
It's funny how they went from the PSP to DS because of dual screens because they ported Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner to PSP and not DS...a game that already had DS in the name was ported to PSP.
Why go magic? I mean skills from gun are VERY USEFUL but those scale from... strenght. Yeah. So basically magic powers up your MP reserves, magic defence and damage from items. I guess magic defence is important, but rest is... well its really not. You never use items for raw damage and MP healing is not too hard when it matters (bosses) since you can prep items. Vitality might be most important since it lets you... live. This i extra important since in DS version when protagonist dies its instant game over. There is also issue of not being able to really control stat growth (you get random points. It's based on questionare at the start of the game) but thats another discussion entirely.
I’ve always wanted to play Strange Journey but am unsure if I want to get Redux (though now that Eshop is shutting down I’ll probably get it so I can have all the MegaTen games on 3DS). Does anyone know a really a good DS emulator.
@@jonathansaucedo74 do they work on 3DS? If not I am looking into hombres for my 3DS so I’ll be able to play SJ ROMs on hardware similar to its original.

Looking forward for my time off tommorow to watch this👍
Edit: Yeah this video is pretty epic
31:40, *Energy Accumulating!* What a ridiculous boss. I’m currently lost in that one gigantic maze place from the expansion.
Probably my favourite SMT story
I'm very eager to continue Strange Journey, it was very fun from what I can remember but I've been focusing on other entries since I got kinda burnout of MegaTen xD
This is great so far (only 15 minutes in)
Great video! I agree on a lot of what you talked about throughout. I just wanna share that the background music is too loud
You explained the story well ✌️
It's He-menez, not Gee-menez, since it's a Spanish name. Figure I let you know.
Great video, by the way! :D
Thank you! Was about to say the same thing until I saw your comment.

The game gives you a demon with fireamp before fighting her use that and Ouro becomes a joke

Did a great job, my brother. Very masterful.
Thank you man!!
@@kurxse One love, yeah.
Good video bro. Background music is too loud though.
lmmaaaoo the Danger 5 clip 🤣🤣ok i subscribe
great work and great video! you really gotta work on enunciation tho. couldn't make out what you were trying to say a few times

have you tried the new endings?
I feel that Atlus peaked during the DS to 3DS era.
The shaaaade
I have no idea what the WOMB OF F**ING GRIEF is but I'm already intimidated
Conveyor belt maze, teleport maze, and invisible floor maze
Good vid but the music was bit too loud.

Melon DS is a good ds emulator.
If you have a DS get an R4 flashcart

@@andrewmanchiraju8005 There are R4 flashcarts that work on 3DS, yes. Although they seem to only use the DS library.
