Kinda glad we’re past the point of getting genuinely mad at media that’s heavily flawed or “cringe”. I heard about this from the nostalgia critic years ago and i’ve come to realize that if something gives you joy with how bad it is, why not celebrate it I guess
This is one of the first movies that came out when DVD was seen as commplace in most American households, and we got a lot of special features on that DVD release because of it. Way more than if this movie had come out in the 90s, or today. It was just the right place at the right time for DVD.
The film had two commentary tracks too. The first one has the screenwriter chat with Adam Sandler (in character as Whitey and his sister). The second one, which Trevor used for researching the video, was the director’s commentary.
@@KawikaProductions I never liked commentary tracks personally. It gave me people talking behind me at the theater vibes. But I appreciated the effort and money they put into giving you your money's worth. Back in 2002, DVDs were expensive.
Say what you will about this movie, but the animation is really beautifully done, and the soundtrack is pretty decent for the most part. Also, at least Adam Sandler went on to make or star in in better animated films, like the Hotel Transylvania movies (actually made by Genndy Tartakovsky of Dexter’s Lab and Samurai Jack fame) and Leo.
It’s fascinating that Sandler hasn’t talked about the film in years. You’d think he would bring it up considering his recent animated film Leo on Netflix.
Aside from most of the gross-out jokes, the movie's fairly enjoyable. The music and animation is great, and is quite heartfelt. I even found myself liking Whitey more than I thought I would. For the past few years, I've made a tradition of watching it around Christmastime.
I consider eight crazy nights as one of my guilty pleasures which is funny because I was never fond of Adam Sandlers movies, maybe with the exception of Hotel Transylvania

Also, if you like this movie Be sure to check out iron giant and the animated bits of osmosis jones They’re also done by the same animation, people who did eight crazy nights and they’re great darker kinda adult animated films too.
My sisters and I enjoy this film. While yes, Eight Crazy Nights has problems, but we appreciate the animation and how much time and effort everyone, including Adam Sandler, put into this film, especially the songs.
No joke, I’ve had thoughts about what it’d be like if someone got together with Adam Sandler and adapted “Eight Crazy Nights” into a(n) (off) Broadway musical. Can you picture that?
That might honestly work tbh. If they just hadn't tried to appeal to a family-friendly audience and instead catered to Adam Sandlers loyal fanbase and their cult-following that developed since the last decade, don't see why they couldn't give it a shot

There are worse holiday movies than Eight Crazy Nights, I'd say (and probably anyone else). There is one in particular: "The Christmas Tree". Released first on video on September 1991, before airing on the USA Network in that year's December. Still, I'd probably say that not much people saw it because they were busy (and would probably rather be) watching something else: either the Soviet Union becoming not much of a union anymore, or were participating in movie theaters' holiday season buzz (MANY films, plenty of which are family-friendly affairs, were released around that time: "The Addams Family", "JFK", "Hook", "Father of the Bride", "Cape Fear", and even a pair of animated films, "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West", the theatrical sequel to Don Bluth's film, and Amblimation's debut film, and the famous (and probably the most successful film of the 1991 holiday season) Disney adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast").
