The creepiest moment for me was in origami king when the cutout soldiers came, and when scissors cut mario in half, I was terrified, and that paper mistake was disturbing as hell

I'm surprised you didnt mention the moment in Super Paper Mario where Dimentio turned you into a mindless slave by putting a plant on your head. I always found that really unsettling. Great video though!

I remember being so afraid of Mimi when I first played Super Paper Mario, to the point where I actually never quite got past her until many years later when I picked up the game again. Even then, she still freaks me out, but I managed to get through it!

I think it’s kinda funny and pretty creepy how in Super Paper Mario, you can just say no to saving the world. Mario’s just like “nah, I don’t feel like it.” Its basically saying you’d rather let the world end than actually do anything at all. As a lazy person myself, I can respect it, especially with the current state of world. I hate my life.

Super Paper Mario also has a part in the sixth chapter where you travel through a world that has been erased. You go through it the first time and it's a normal area, then you go through it again and absolutely everything is gone, just a blank white background and flat ground that goes on, while some unsettling music plays. You eventually reach the Pure Heart... and it's been turned to stone. Then you fight a boss. That part of the game is followed by-- you guessed it-- the Underwhere.
Honestly, nothing in the franchise comes even close to River Twygz in terms of sheer creepiness, I'm still surprised that mindfuck of a song actually made it into a Mario game.

I think the song that plays with this king of roses in super paper mario is a bit worse.
Don’t forget the one in pit where you remove dirt from the paper and see there are actually 2 Princess Shroobs before fighting the elder shrooboid and the cobalt star was used to capture her than what they originally thought! Not “dark!” but it still sends CHILLS down my spine!
Yeah PiT in general is just dark, take a look at Toadwood forest and vim factory.
This was a great list. I'm surprised you didn't mention the scene in mario and luigi partners in time where princess peach has an alien shroob mushroom attached to her face though. That scene really weirded me out as a kid haha.

Partners in time is very unsettling in many parts. You get eaten by a giant yoshi, that one koopa girl gets eaten by petey pirahna, not to mention the end where everyone else becomes a mushroom and peach is lying motionless in the background. I’ve never even played the game and it kinda freaks me out

Paper Mario: the origami king has a very scary thing. At bowser’s castle you try to free the green streamer but you run into these black paper dudes. It’s so creepy when there like wobbling and grabbing you around like crazy. Also this long hand one kidnaps Olivia.
There’s another moment in that game that’s more creepy and sad at the same time which is the scene where Bobby dies and you see him as a ghost afterwards. I’d like to imagine Bobby crying himself to sleep in Breezy Tunnel because he misses Mario and Olivia. He misses them so much that when you take a picture in Shogun Studios, you see him as a ghost posing with you.
I didn’t realize just how many creepy moments there are in the paper Mario games. One I thought deserves at least an honorable mention is in color splash where you find a shy guy literally sucking the life and color out of a toad

I have a creepy moment, definitely not the creepiest, but Sticker Star was my first Paper Mario game. When I got to bowsers castle, I was met with a difficult Kamek that took a few tries. When I finally beat him, he gave a few lines that to me felt like last words. Then he died. I didn’t know that kamek died a lot in of these recent paper mario games, so seeing such a recognizable character just… die, right in front of me, it was very unsettling.
Especially since I was just 9 years old.

As a kid the eel from Mario 64 really scared me. I was always dreading the can the eel come out to play star. Whenever the eel poked its head out of the hole, it scared the crap out of me

i was terrified of poltergeist when i was little and played mario galaxy. The music and his growls were terrifying i forgot i was playing a mario game
When he started showing footage of “yoshi’s crafted world” my brain immediately went to those weird doll things with axes (but I’m surprised that he never mentioned their screams when they spot you)
You need to add the music from River Twygz, that music is nightmare fuel.
Also add the ghost from 4-4 in SM3DL or the Hell Valley Sky Trees in SMG2

The creepiest moment in the franchise is definitely the Wario apparition from Mario 64.
That specific thing made me no longer play mario 64

Twilight town in paper mario ttyd is one of the scariest locations
The exit door eagle head thing attacking you in SMB2 gave me nightmares when I was a kid
The nistalgia I saw that piano when I was younger I almost had a heart attack

I think the scariest horror depiction of Luigi's mansion, is bowser himself. We're always treated to bowser being the silly villain that kidnaps peach and tries to take over the mushroom kingdom with his silly cronies, but in this one, the whole battle scene looks like it takes place in some infernal depiction of hell, and instead of a silly koopa, he looks horrifying and that he isn't there to kidnap anyone, but there to kill Luigi. Even though I know its King boo behind the mask, it still looks scary, complete with music that is adrenaline-paced haunting. Bowser really made an impression on me in that game.

One thing that I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned was in the first Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. That lab was all kinds of creepy.
Did you know that In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker if you stand in some certain spots for five minutes a ghost will appear?
something similar happens at the flag pole in 4-4 in Super Mario 3D Land (yes, 3D LAND not 3D WORLD), if you stand near the flag pole for long enough a ghost will appear.

I think one of the scariest Mario moments was in Origami King where in the finale of the game, Peach, as Olly puts it, "became the castle"
The song that plays doesn't help either, it has literal fucking heartbeats as an instrument, presumably Peach's.

2:54 OOOHH lemme tell ya, if you've seen Super Mario Dolor (Super Mario Pain) it's a not-so Nintendo game where Mario is facing off against horrifying bosses, and there's even an eel in there! But however it goes far more creepy as there is a level in the eel.
Also the Boo's level's music in Super Mario 64 is fire asf.
Also (AGAIN) there's another not-so Nintendo game named SM64 - First Person Shooter which has the scientist from the mansion, the big pinata from the galaxy, those ones give you GUNS, and it's apparently M-rated.
The Super Mario Dolor (Super Mario Pain) is the creepy ones out of this sentences which has my favorite boss, *SHADOW MARIO*

I used to find the boo houses and boss levels in super mario world creepy as a little kid and my siblings had to do the levels for me. Strangely, I didn't have any problems with the pumpkin zone. the piano made me drop my ds in fright.

Yeah not only in the Japanese version of Paper Mario 2 with the dead toad taped on the floor, also Vivian had a twig and berries as well.
I know you play portal and once you beat that game or if you already have, I recommend playing portal two now… it’s a hard game too in a lot more levels
