  • Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian looks at his game against FM Eugene Yanayt. The game had a very sharp middlegame. As a bonus, see if you can find the best moves in two positions.

I love how Var goes through the game after all the moves. It is really good for learning purposes. His enthusiasm is also very much appreciated. :)

Any chance we are gonna get that bishop knight vs king endgame that GM Akobian promised?
He had already promised to do that a few years ago, but it either didn't get uploaded or he forgot about it, and ever since then I have been waiting for it.
Now that he renewed his promise to cover that endgame, I am eagerly waiting for it!

An excellent, instructive lecture from GM Akobian, as always. Would it be rude to ask what book this game was in? Was it by Jon Speelman by any chance?

The last game puzzle was brilliant. I found ...Rd2, Bxd2 Rxd2, Ke1 Rd7 attacking the bishop. Still playable at intermediate level. Computer does not give this variation, as it finds the stronger g4 idea, which is very hard to find for intermediate players like me.
At the end however, @ 40:30, instead of white's Rxd1, white has the option of playing Bxa5! and vacating the e1 square for the King. I think this way white does not lose a pawn and it is even stevens?
    Nice lecture! Mind blowing!

Brilliant game and calculation by GM Akobian. A computer will refrain from taking the Bishop on e2 and just play Nc3, and accept a 2 point disadvantage. At GM level, 2 points should be easy to convert I guess. Amazing that FM Yanayt took the Bishop .. the difference between an FM and GM I guess. Super game and lecture!

    -miféle megnyitás ez?
    -talán katalán..!?
    :D
great combination, but black's task was relatively easy, finding all forced moves.
what i don't get, at first sight at least, is that in reply to ..Ba6 why White didn't try to develop the b1N to c3 instead of passively defending the e2P with the Rook.

+Vahid Alimohamadi Practise practise practise... also a lot of them are captures or attacks, so if you first analyse these important variations, you can actually find it after some time. Not that I would have found it, but it is not just a strike of genius, the point of the lecture is to learn this aswell! :)

    • @tomsmith4452

17:00 Ne4 threatening Nxf2 should also win. if Rc2 Qd5 threat of discovered attack. If Kg1 then Nh3 mate.

Then the queen came back to c2 to protect f2 and if you still have the initiative, you no longer have any advantage, you're down a piece so you can just drawn.... You have to let the white queen stay away from the action to win.
The GM idea is a forced line leading to a win, see at 19.55, it's a ten moves calculation... oO

Shone Ml Its not losing, after Qd5+ and Kg1 you can play Nh3+ and after Bxh3 you play Qg5+ hitting the rook. It's still winning but nowhere near as convincing

    • @shoneml7186
      @shoneml7186 7 років тому
