It was in the founding documents that the navy’s primary purpose is to kill pirates. They’d be hypocrites to NOT kill pirates.literally everything the navy is founded on was because of them. With even a creed being “In God we trust, in others we watch” essentially “we don’t trust literally anyone and will keep our eyes on all of you” they have surveillance system that keeps an eye on the Pacific, and I don’t mean just looking at it I mean they have a near omniscient view of the entire pacific.

The best thing about this whole story is how smart the Moroccans were. They saw what we did to the British and decided it was best to sign a peace treaty. Then proceed to sit there and watch their neighbors get shit stomped.

FWIW he meant the crew of the Philadelphia, not the ship. That we would get back, I mean.
Also remember that in most of his videos, he has a bit at the end after the credits, and it's usually really good. This one said something along the lines of "And that is part one of how America became the world police. Give ya a hint, part two is after the Korean War when NATO gets founded."

@@supremecaffeine2633 while that's the case, that's not the reason for the ice cream ships. At this point, you had an entire generation of Americans who grew up without Alcohol. When prohibition happened, bars that wanted to stay in business became ice cream parlors. Ice cream providing the ' social ' bonding that alcohol once served.
the whole mental effect on the enemy was just a happy by product of un-intended results.

The book "Six Frigates" by Ian Toll tells the story. Very enjoyable read.
The story of the US Navy and piracy didn't end there because over 200 years later, Somali Pirates started doing the same thing. Shipping companies had made an unspoken deal with them that their crews wouldn't fight back as long as the pirates didn't kill them and ransomed them off instead along with their ships. Maersk Alabama with an American crew was then boarded by pirates--for the first time in two centuries--but the crew fought back wounding one of them. While most of the crew had locked themselves in a storage room, they did so after disconnecting the steering gear and shutting down the boilers. The US Navy then went into action sending ships to confront the pirates. The pirates eventually fled in a life boat with the ship's captain held hostage. One of the US Navy ships ended up placing snipers on board to take care of the problem. From there they were able to get a thermal image of the pirates inside and killed all of them with head shots. This started an international effort organized by the US to rid the horn of Africa of piracy, which in the end was successful.
Moral of the story: the US doesn't like pirates.

He left out 1 MINOR/MAJOR detail depending on how you look at it, when Commodore Decatur got those surrenders and payments from Tunisia, Algeria and Tripoli, he left out the fact that AFTER he defeated that large pirate ship and captured it's crew of 400 men, they FIRST landed on the shoreline of Tripoli where half of them were executed in such a way, that is not only the most offensive, but also unforgivable to the Muslim Religion, each of them were beheaded by a sword whose blade just got covered with pigs blood, and then 1 by 1, beheaded while the rest watched, when all this killing was done on the beach of Tripoli, they got back onto the ships with the "PRISONERS" each one carrying the head of an executed prisoner, while on the way to the capitol, occasionally throwing a head over board, WHEN they got to the Capitol, the remaining prisoners told what had happened to the other half of the crew, how they were executed, and how they could never get into heaven or "PARADISE" could never get their 72 virgins or their river of honey, THEN the pirate king finally understood how far that Americans would go, what they would be willing to do and how Americans no compunctions or hesitations with killing them in such a way, that their deaths themselves was an unpardonable sin. and only then did the Pirate king realize that he had lost, and America was NOT the country that should be provoked, and signed the treaty and paid what was demanded of him to pay. you see the body of a true "BELIEVER" MUST be buried WHOLE, and IF you are a devout Muslim, anything related to a pig must never touch your body, so by slicing off their heads with a blade covered with pigs blood. either of these would result in an unforgivable sin to Mohammad.

I mean it's OK to have inaccuracies it happens sometimes your trying to have commentary on the time like saving private ryan or your trying to have a different take on an event so you open up fun adventure movies like Kelly's Heroes. However what The Patriot and Braveheart do have mean spirited edge about it and worse it breeds into mischaracterizations that are intentional and that's not good especially when your trying to set it in a historical setting you do do need to care about the subject and you do need to respect it because the messages you send even whole fiction have weight.
