Built in 1887 by Baldwin for the East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railroad as engine 419. Exploded at Chattanooga on September 21, 1890, rebuilt and returned to service. Became Southern Railway 107 following the creation of that company in 1894. Sold to the Knoxville, Sevierville & Eastern Railroad (“Knoxville, Slow & Easy”), more commonly called the Smoky Mountain Railroad, in the 1940’s. Last steamed for the KS&E in 1954. Sold to Rebel Railroad in 1961, and the rest is history.
It is sad to see it go away but maybe it will be something special to a new bunch of people. The only thing that stays the same is that everything changes. I do wish Gatlinburg was more like it was at least what I remember as a kid. Gatlinburg has always been a tourist trap/destination even back in the 60s. Pigeon Forge from what I remember was just a few stores and motels. When I left home back in 1980 there was not a lot in Pigeon Forge then. 1992 we came back to this area and it looked different then. We had another gap until 2023 and we were shocked at how much the area changed some things good and some things not so good. We still liked the area enough to move here so we did. Over all we are very happy with the area and we are glad to be in Sevier County. Thank you Will and Dawn for this video.
Back when it was The Rebel Railroad and Goldrush Junction, things weren’t built up nearly the way they are now. The park was on the outskirts of town and the engine was placed there to mark the turn off. It never ran at the park because it is too big. Dollywood’s railroad is narrow gauge, like most park trains, and that engine is standard gauge.
Wow another part of Pigeon Forge history gone it is sad to see it gone just like Hillbilly Village. Wonder what the local people think about it being gone sometimes you don't miss something untill it is gone. I know I will miss it like many other people do. I have a lot of family photos of my family standing on the side taking a picture. We use to stop and take a picture every time we came out which was every year to see family. It was our family photo for the year. It will be missed. Thanks for the last look
Thanks for the video, I am glad y'all were able to get some footage of the move. We are in PF this week and was surprised to see it gone. However, the last time we stopped there for pictures the engine was looking like it was rusting away. I am glad to see that maybe it will see some better days and the new owners will do some work to at least halt the decay.
Thank you Will & Dawn for sharing this information about the Dollywood Express 107. Change can make us feel uncomfortable we just need to interpret it as an opportunity to grow. Not everyday you see a train being moved down the road. Great video as always!
As I saw it going down the road, after the i story you told… I thought, what a neat children’s book thst would be. Im glad it’s going to a good home. I thought of all the history it’s seen and it leaving and the journey to its new history.
I absolutely hate change... I miss the old Gatlinburg... I miss the old Pigion Forge. I still love Gatlinburg and Pigion Forge but it hurts me seeing it change from a family place to a alcohol and weed infested party town.
My oldest daughter, who's 25 now, had her picture taken next to it when she was only 1 year old. It was Fall time and we raked a pile of beautiful leaves up and sat her in the middle of them and took her picture. 🥹 Glad to have that picture for great memories.🥰
Thanks for sharing, Will! Yes, the road beside this location used to be the turn off to go to Silver Dollar City and Dollywood until Veterans Blvd was built. The billboard said, “Turn Here,” and the road turned into Dollywood Lane and took you to the old entrance (which is now the back entrance for employees and the trolleys). Yes, times they are a changing…some changes are ok, but we sure miss a lot of the old Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg…
Wow, thanks for covering this for us. Are they taking the Coal Tender, also? I stayed next door at the Travelodge several times and it was nice looking over to see that engine before heading back to Dollywood. At least I have pics of it that I can look back at. Hope you show us it's new location in Knoxville.
Change is inevitable but we think what they are doing in Gatlinburg is taking too much away from its roots, really like the what was there not the new modern buildings and cabins included.
Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are both too commercial for me now. Too many people, too many cars cant enjoy the seasons. People are just in to big of a hurry.
When I was a kid, this was Goldrush Junction. I wonder if it that was there then? That was probably the late 60s. It was Silver Dollar City when I came back in my late teens.
Are you two painting that amazing blue sky every time in your posts? Has been so long now for us here in Ohio. I remain so jealious! I agree there are so many modern changes. Taking away from the simplicity of the area. It is sad! Hugs from Maumee!
Wow it will be missed so glad I got pics there That’s where I went and got our season passes last year stood inline for over 3 hours lol and took pics while waiting Thanks for sharing ❤
When I was a kid, this was Goldrush Junction. I wonder if it that was there then? That was probably the late 60s. It was Silver Dollar City when I came back in my late teens. I wonder what going in its place.
Will be sad to not see it sitting there when I come back on my next trip. The train at the Yellow House has been there for so long. I remember when the yellow house was the go to for getting tickets and season passes.
We use to come once or twice a year in the 90's and 2000. Or last trip in 2023. I was sad to see gatlinburg loosing it's country charm. It is starting to look like any other tourist area. Like Hwy 192 or international drive in Orlando. So sad. I wish the new buildings had been themed to the same style as was all ready thier. Thank you Will and Dawn for sharing your adventures with us.
I do not like all the new changes in Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, I think it's getting way too commercialized. I loved the simplicity and feel of these areas, I miss that so much....Hillbilly Village, The Farmers Daughter restaurant that had All you can eat biscuits and gravy for $3.99, sitting in chairs on the lawn of McAfee motor Inn & watching the traffic and just relaxing, going into all of the older Souvenirs shops etc. ect. ect. It's just so crazy there now with so many people you can't even enjoy it.
I've been wanting to say this, and I'm sure I'm not the first person to say it. I am sure glad you put your theme music and video back on that you've used for the last 5 years. Your UA-cam channel is the first one I started following 5 years ago. Now it's sentamental ❤️. I think you only had a little over 5000 subscribers back then. As far as the train engine goes, I guess it was there from Silver Dollar City days?
It’s sad to see it go here’s to hoping we see Beatrice # 71 soon Dollywood owns #71 and is stored awaiting restoration that could be used as the display now and is the correct size and wheel configuration This train engine 107 was used in the construction of Douglas dam. I have a couple of pictures of the train from September 9, 2023 and it still had the Dollywood logo on the side of the engine and Dollywood Express on the back. I had to search for them on my phone to show my husband since he didn't remember going by it before because he was driving and had his eyes on the road.
I still enjoy gatlinburg. There's enough that I remember still as a kid that it's still like going home kinda but it has definitely changed for the worse in my opinion. No more fast food. Less motels, all the liquor places. It's all become so expensive. Change isn't always good, but I guess it happens weather we want it to or not

Aww so sad. That's been there forever! So much is changing in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
I don’t like the feel of Gatlinburg it’s changed too commercial. I hate to see Pigeon Forge follow suit. History is gone.
Totally agree
They ruined the family atmosphere. It is just a party town filled with alcohol and weed smoke. Disgraceful.
This has been happening slowly for years. It sold out and isn’t what it used to be.
It is sad to see it go away but maybe it will be something special to a new bunch of people.

Thanks for sharing this video. I would've wondered where the iconic locomotive had gone. It was a nice photo backdrop and will be missed for sure.

Wow 😮 sheer power to move that old locomotive
Thank you for letting me be a part of watching this

Well thats good its not getting scraped. Neat locomotive. You have your vest on looks good.

I love your comment and description of present day Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
Thanks, will!

That makes me sad. I’m not a fan of change especially of nostalgia 💜
It’s crazy to think steam engine #107 was built 1887 and hasn’t been used since 1961 when it was placed there on display .

I rode that train when I was a kid when it was Rebel Railroad in the 1960s. Y'all are making me feel old!😂
Thanks for the update, Will! My goodness, there are quite a few changes! As long as there for the good, then go for it!
See you on the next video!
I guess I am too nostalgic and change for me is kind of jarring especially when it happens quickly and with no knowledge of it happening!!!😢
I am very sad about this too, I will miss this train, I showed it a lot on my channel and always looked at it when we drove by
Embrace the change.
Wow, thanks for covering this for us. Are they taking the Coal Tender, also?

Thank you for sharing this with us. I found it very interesting.
Big bummer! Part of my childhood 😢
Thank you so much for showing us and taking us along. Change is hard sometimes.
New is not always better
I really do miss the old Pigeon Forge. It used to be more of a family atmosphere. Haven’t been back since 2020.
My Dad uses to work at Baldwin locomotive in Eddstone Pa. Back in 1940’s
HEY WILL, WAS THAT TRAIN THERE IN THE EARLY 80'S ? THAT'S WHEN WE WERE THERE WHEN IT WAS SILVER DOLLAR CITY!
Not too fond of change, but at least it was preserved and not scrapped. I hope the people of Knoxville love it as much as Pigeon Forge. 💕💕💕
Change is inevitable but we think what they are doing in Gatlinburg is taking too much away from its roots, really like the what was there not the new modern buildings and cabins included.
Thank you for keeping us updated on the changes.
Oh wow!! It is sad. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are both too commercial for me now. Too many people, too many cars cant enjoy the seasons. People are just in to big of a hurry.
And yes they r coming back for the Tender but it will be a few weeks idk when just got the confirmation
When I was a kid, this was Goldrush Junction. I wonder if it that was there then? That was probably the late 60s. It was Silver Dollar City when I came back in my late teens.
Yeah, I remember when it was “Gold Rush Junction” also. The parkway only had a few shops and a couple of restaurants back in the day.
Are you two painting that amazing blue sky every time in your posts? Has been so long now for us here in Ohio. I remain so jealious! I agree there are so many modern changes. Taking away from the simplicity of the area. It is sad! Hugs from Maumee!

Came to show my support. Thanks for sharing and have a great day. Much love from Zanesville OH. Don't forget to give a 👍

I hate when history is changed.😮
Great piece of history
Hundreds of places would Love and Appreciate it
We really loved the train. It’s not going to be the same with all these iconic symbols of the Smoky Mountains gone. Thanks for the update.
I do not like all the new changes in Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, I think it's getting way too commercialized.

🚂
But why, it's been there forever.
Thanks for the video. I love old trains, and I wish trains still had the caboose. Safe travels and God bless.
Great video. Thank you.
In 1971,I took my 1st photo of that train. It was Gold Rush Junction at that time. Sorry to see it moved.
Omg they need to stop getting rid of all the good memories. I hate to see it's gone..
I remember riding that train with my mom when it was GoldRush Junction and smelling like coal soot afterward.
I hate to see it go 😢
Thanks Will and Dawn

I wonder what they gonna do with it now
No I loved looking at the train when we was there
Things are always moving and changing
I hate ta see landmark pieces go, especially the history hopefully Knoxville will get many more great years out of it.
they called it the front entrance cause all the traffic would go through Dollywood lane and enter through what is now the employee entrance
No will all the changes going on are not good has you beat older will you will understand
I've seen that locomotive several times
We’ve been to the Smokey’s several times and I can’t remember ever seeing that train. Really wish we had now. Thanks for sharing.
Really like the old opening when you’re near home and love your travel opening when you’re travelling
So sad to see the train go. Thanks will and dawn 👍 keep up the good work 😊
Well, that's just awful 😖
It’s sad to see it go here’s to hoping we see Beatrice # 71 soon
Dollywood owns #71 and is stored awaiting restoration that could be used as the display now and is the correct size and wheel configuration
This train engine 107 was used in the construction of Douglas dam.
It was standard gauge so it was too wide for the tracks at Dollywood.
The #70 & #192 are narrow gauge
Another difference is 107 is a 2-8-0 Makoto class
70 & 192 are 2-8-2
Meaning 2 small wheels up front 8 big drive wheels in the middle and 2 small wheels at the back.
The original theme song!!! LOVE hearing it and love these Smoky Mountain updates.
I went to Gatlinburg many years ago, but it was raining the day I went so I don’t really remember.
Nooooooooo!!!!!
i really loved that steam locomotive i hate to see it go
I'm so annoyed.
So sad to see it go.
I saw this today in South Knoxville. There was several trucks with flashing lights.
Yes it used to be closer to the road
I have a couple of pictures of the train from September 9, 2023 and it still had the Dollywood logo on the side of the engine and Dollywood Express on the back. I had to search for them on my phone to show my husband since he didn't remember going by it before because he was driving and had his eyes on the road.
The back trolley entrance to Dollywood isn't far from this train.
Bye Bye choo choo 🚂😢
Sad to see it go
That was sad when the truck pulled off with the engine and driving away with it 😥
I hate to see it go we had many photos in front of it
Oh no 🤦🏼♀️ I’m feeling bad about Dollywood Express railroad gone.
Yes I remember that pictures with my family in 1996.
Thank you Will & Dawn ❤🙏🏻
I still enjoy gatlinburg. There's enough that I remember still as a kid that it's still like going home kinda but it has definitely changed for the worse in my opinion. No more fast food. Less motels, all the liquor places. It's all become so expensive. Change isn't always good, but I guess it happens weather we want it to or not
😢
❤ your videos🚂 Bye Dolly Express🚂We got at least 1 inch of snow 🌨 It's mostly melted 🌞🌞today!❄️❄️❄️ Here Today!Gone Tomorrow!
I remember as a small child my parents would stop there and let me climb on the train
😭😭
They should have kept it and restored it.
Change is never good
Oh. No. Why. Kids will never know what a train like that such a shame. 😢😢😢😢😢
Don't like it.
