Hi Ashley, new follower here, firstly I want to say I really love your videos, thanks for sharing them. 📚❤️ Secondly, I want to highly recommend to continue the „A Good Girls Guide to Murder“- series. I really enjoyed it. And I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the next two books in the series. Sending lots of love 🫶🏼
Hello Ashley, I’ve been very disappointed in the newer thriller books. I love mysteries of all kinds and have found a new mystery for me written in the early 90s with an Alaska theme The Kate Shugak mysteries by Dana Stabenow. The first book is called “a cold day for murder“. In general, I prefer literary mysteries or police procedurals, which are hard to find today. Aloha and thank you for your video.
I enjoyed Miracle Creek and will be reading Happiness Falls for bookclub. I also liked the mystery of Ellie Black. I’d say the last mystery I enjoyed was Middle of the Night by Riley Sager. It actually got me a little teary eyed a couple times. 😅
I’m so glad you are enjoying the Thursday Murder Club!!! Especially The Man Who Died Twice, which is my favorite. I love British humor so much too! I need to read Janice Halletts Alperton Angels.
Have you tried Keigo Higashino? His books are so meticulously planned, reminds me of Agatha Christie. But his books are a bit unconventional since some are "why did it" or "how did it".
Same! I still love the first two books but I didn’t finish the third one. I still love her other books though, five survive and the reappearance of Rachel price!!
So glad to see Everyone in my Family Has Killed Somone and Everyone on This Train is a Suspect included on your list. Those two books were my favorite reads of 2023 and 2024. (Really looking forward to the third book in October.) I'm in the group that liked the second book even better, mostly because I feel that the first book, while very entertaining, had some plot holes and could have been a little tighter, and I felt like that was fixed and improved on in the second novel. I also love trains and this setting reminded me of Murder on the Orient Express, so it contributed to my overall enjoyment. I don't think those two books get talked about nearly enough!
This is a good list. I've read all but 2 of them, and I'm also a reader that loves a British style mystery. Your previous review of Happiness Falls convinced me to check it out and I think is my favorite read of 2024 so far. Also liked Miracle Creek, but not quite as much as Happiness Falls. Angie Kim is definitely an auto-buy/read author for me. Lover her writing. Also, please do the audio for Thursday Murder Club. The narrator changes between books 2 and 3, but I think both are fantastic. The second narrator knocks it out of the park in book 4. It's one of those series where the audio improves the reading experience because the narration brings the characters to life. Book 3 isn't quite as good as Book 2, but Book 4 is one of the best mysteries I've ever read. More for the character work than the mystery, though. As far as recommendations, try Magpie Murders and the follow-up Moonflower Murders, which is even better, if you like the first book. They are very complicated mysteries. I think readers who like Stuart Turton and Janice Hallett would enjoy those books. I think those two books are the author's best, but I also enjoy his Hawthorne and Horowitz series which has five books now I think. I recommend that series if you just want a solid mystery, but none of them are five-star worthy. A solid 3.5-4 stars series for me. Also the series gets better with each book, so that's a plus.
So glad you enjoyed Angie Kim! I’ll definitely continue with the audiobooks for The Thursday Murder Club, and thank you for the recommendations I’ll add those to my list!
I’ve been on the fence about reading Happiness Falls. You convinced me. I just finished The Other Half by Charlotte Vassell and it’s a British mystery. It’s about a murder among the posh crowd. She does poke fun at the ultra rich and I love that lol. First in a series and a debut. Liked the book and audiobook. Second book will be out soon.
I had no idea that there was another book after Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone. My best friend and I buddy read together the 1st and had such a great time with it. Maybe she can be coaxed into another buddy read with me! I don't read mystery often, but sometimes it's a fun switch from SFF. 📖🥰📚
I loved the first Good Girl's Guide to Murder, but found the other two (as well as the novella) very, very meh. I wish I hadn't read them because they bring down the first.
I enjoyed "Goog girl..." a lot, though gave it 4 stars as I remember that the main character was annoying (as usual). I have "Every one has killed s.o" on my TBR as well Stuart Turton one. I absoulely love the style in "The seven deaths of Evelyn"
added a couple of these to my libby tbr, and a few were already on my tbrs. I can't wait to one day read these. have you read The Expectant Detectives? I thought it was pretty cute, but got darker than I thought it would. not to say that it was dark, just... you know? right? okay. I tried to check goodreads to see if you had but it's being (fart noises)
I cannot get over the Benjamin Stevenson covers being so different 😫 I know there is another edition for book 2 that is more in line with the first book (but idk where to find it) but it’s such a stark difference and I hate it
ooooh i hadn't heard of some of these!! thank you for the recs! 🕵♂
Thank YOU for convincing me to try The Thursday Murder Club again 🫶🏻
I’m excited to try some of these out next time I’m looking for a more mystery focus, thanks for the recs!

Love Stuart Turton! I can’t wait to read his new one, it sounds so good! I’ve also enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t consider myself a mystery lover, but Miracle Creek is one of my favorite books! It’s so good
Added some of these to my tbr. So many books, so little time!
Please, continue in the good girls guide to murder series is really good:-)

Swiped sounds so good, adding to my TBR
Hope you enjoy it!

I need to read Janice Halletts Alperton Angels.
I’m a mystery lover and reader but thriller is where the industry is at rn. I’m definitely getting more into the thriller genre
Great video! I agree the two Benjamin Stevens books are great fun. I also enjoy Stuart Turton novels, but haven't read the latest yet.
Ah a fellow Stuart Turton fan! I didn't realize until now how many mysteries I've been reading lately! I really want to read the Angie Kim ones.
Have you tried Keigo Higashino? His books are so meticulously planned, reminds me of Agatha Christie. But his books are a bit unconventional since some are "why did it" or "how did it".
I read The Devotion of Suspect X and enjoyed it!
I have only read the Christmas Appeal by Janice Hallett but I loved it, I think you would too! It actually had me laughing out loud multiple times
I loved the first two Good Girl's Guide to Murder, but the third was such a miss for me. It kind of ruined the series for me.
I hear that a lot which is why I’ve been hesitant to continue!
Same! I still love the first two books but I didn’t finish the third one. I still love her other books though, five survive and the reappearance of Rachel price!!
I LOVED the third book it's my favorite in the series lol but it really disturbed me.
@@muskaan3711 I'm glad you loved it! It's interesting how people either love or hate the last book.
3rd book ruined the main character for me. It just wasn’t believable the arc she went on. Loved the first one though!

Angie Kim has an amazon original story called A planned Occasion.
👀 oooh thank you!
I read the return of Ellie black this month and LOVED it
Swiped sounds so good! Can't believe I've never heard of it🤔
I loved The Thursday Murder Club and like you, I have been moving toward mysteries lately.
I have Alperton Angels and Everyone on This Train as a Suspect borrowed in Libby from my library. Can’t wait!

I have read it 7 and the others are/were on my TBR. The Hawthorne & Horowitz series by Anthony Horowitz is meta with lots of British humor.
Yaaay, I love your videos and recommendations! 🎉❤

Oooh thanks for the rec!!
Miracle creek is at dollar tree!

There’s a Christmas book coming from him this year too!

Please review The teacher by Frieda McFadden and drowning woman by Robyn Harding

I know!! I actually really like the cover of the 2nd but yeah it’s so weird for it to not match at all 😂
ps. does your giraffe have a name???
Haha he does not officially I honestly forget he’s there sometimes 😂
I was disappointed in Happiness Falls because I don’t like “open ended” mysteries… I wish she could have told us what really happened ☹️
