Hey fellow investors! In this video I show you how to turn those pesky visa gift cards you get as gifts or from surveys into cash into your checking account. The whole process only takes a few minutes and is super simple to follow! This way you don't have to worry about trying to spend the whole balance of the giftcard or worry about losing the gift card in the meantime. This is a super simple tutorial and you can do the same process with paypal (as shown in the video) or with venmo.

If you don't want to create a second account as talked in the video, you can also add the gift as a payment method to your account and then send the balance to a friend and have the friend refund the money. From there you can just send/deposit it into your bank account then. The money can be in your account instantly (with paypal and paying another 1% fee) or within 1 to 2 days. This method is the lowest fees and fastest method to turn the gift card into cash.

Was this patch? I tried this with my MasterCard gift card and it shows as debit card and says denied by card issuer when I try to send money?

@@MVRgorilla when you are sending a payment using your gift card, instead of clicking on “friends and family”, use “goods and service” and it will go though no issues 👍🏻!

Mine did the same thing on PayPal and Venmo. Maybe American express finally got caught up on this and stopped it on newer cards

Do I have to make a new PayPal account for every card cause it won’t work for my second gift card im trying

I was able to get the card into the system but I was not able to use the vanilla gift card

If you have recieved or purchased a vanilla gift card you are screwed. Vanilla gift is a scam and a fraud. They are being sued in my home town. Hopefully they lose and have to pay out! Maybe you can at least spend it on the websites that sell it. It would be insane if Walmart and CVS blocked the use of the cards they sell! That would mean they are complacent and proves they are in on the scam! 😡
This works but it stupid that it does not allow you to wait the 2 to 3 days. It forces you do the instant transfer

Can you take the giftcard into the bank and simply deposit it? I called chase and a rep told me I can do this but I am not sure as I have not tried it yet.

I just attempted this and entered the card information on my second PayPal account. However when I hit link card it said I used an invalid address which happened to be my home address. Any ideas on how to get around this.? Thank you.

Sorry I haven't had this issue before. Did you put in the same address as your other paypal account? If so, maybe put another address.
Look on the back of your gift card. It should have a web page url. Like, giftcardMall.com or mygiftcardmall.com or something like that. If you go to that website you can register your card with your information. Then you will have a valid address.
on some cards i got this message:This card can't be used for your payment. Please add a different debit or credit card. any idea how to fix it ?

No I haven't, just because I haven't needed the money right away. I don't mind waiting a day or two if that means I get more money

It worked but only let me use it 3x then it won’t let me do it anymore I’m not sure if I got flagged for it. And I wasn’t sure if I’m suppose to use my original name because all I did was use a different email but it’s the same name, and billing address as my other PayPal.

Why won’t you screen record for better quality?
Paypal will flag or shut down your account if you do this too many times.
Do you know about how many times? I've done it about 4 or 5 times now and still haven't had any issues.
@@FinancialTutor one of the biggest ways that can send off the alarms is if the amount is high or say you always have $100 cards but suddenly you have one for $500 then they see something is abnormal. I think to stay safe try to keep them $100 or less and no more than once a week. It can take a while to get flagged but it all depends on the frequency and the amount of the cards.

yes, you should be able to use it anywhere online. You can also transfer the balance of the giftcard to your checking account if you'd like (this video tutorial would help you do that) :)

2 months later...
I linked two cards that show up in my wallet but when I try to send money it says I have to link a card.
1 of the account has to complete the verification process fully sending your I'd picture in etc and adding a bank account

This worked perfectly! Thank you. There is also opportunity cost to consider. If I have a credit card that I would usually use which gives me 2 or 3 percent cash back, the real cost of cashing out the card could be as little as 0.5-1.5% or less. Also the interest one could be earning on the cashed out amount could far outweighed the fee.
I 100% agree! Too many people focus on paying the small fee that they don't think it's worth it, but I completely agree with your logic! Plus I tend to get the "money burning a hole in my pocket" feeling with a visa giftcard with money on it or I misplace it around the house.

Joseph Diefenbach I used two personal PayPal accounts. One I’ve had a long time that I’ve used for eBay (has been dormant for quite a while) and the other I had signed up for with my personal email a couple years back.

I was also wondering about the 2 accounts part but you can’t link Xbox cards or anything like that, their is a app that allows you the exchange gift cards for other ones tho. Highly subset doing that if you have a spare Xbox or google play store card.
I tried to do this method for an activated gift card, but PayPal keeps saying the card is declined by the issuing bank. How can I fix this issue?

For Virtual Visa Cards(doesn't have to be a physical card) you can deposit it into your account in the same day by first making a Square account and adding that Virtual Visa Card to Square then use the Virtual Terminal section to deposit that card to where you want. Including the fees. So ask for a Virtual Visa Card instead of a Visa Gift Card if you need it even within the hour.

Doesnt work for me. Says I need to confirm my card before using it and then it asks to check my statement. As of 4/16/2021.
you have to confirm it and check your statement then enter that into Paypal where it asks to confirm.
Same for me they will be depositing a small amount in 3 to 5 days
