+Venky Venkateswaran It is compatible with the western instruments that can produce it (the violin for example), not the piano. While this sounds more like Yaman than some of the other available performances of Utsav Lal, it still isnt a satisfactory rendition.

Utsav, you are a genius.....however I would like to ask a question.....Is there any specific tuning that gets done on the pianos you use so that the ET scale can match with the shrutis of the Hindustani Classical music?
He’s mostly doing that (I would think) to create the drone sound that is traditionally generated by the tanpura. The tanpura is an extremely resonant acoustic instrument that is always present in Hindustani classical music. I’m sure he could use the left hand otherwise if he wanted to do it in this arrangement. So, it’s most likely a creative choice. You are allowed to disagree.

An eye opener to one who thought classical Indian music is not possible with Western instruments!

very nice..
Mesmerizing!!!

Percussive pattern reminds me of Bartok, who was very interested in non-western scales and rhythms. It's lydian scale there, though :)
Yes, rather Bartok like! The raga 'Yaman' he's playing here actually corresponds exactly to the Lydian mode, which has a sharp 4th note.

@Sudhakar Majety Thanks !
i hope that this boy realises that his left hand is not just meant to bang those notes....its meant to play !!
