Great video. I used to travel Leeds to Carlisle return for £5 in the 1980s. Beautiful loco hauled with my 1 stock and steam heating. That was just a standard service!
Another delightfully video. Quite a few years ago I travelled the Settle - Carlisle line. On the train was a member of staff - guard? conductor? ticket collector? passenger assistance operative? He was probably wondering what to do about this lunatic Australian who was taking endless photos out of both sides of the train. My partner sat quietly doing her best "he's not with me" impression. As we approached the Ribblehead Viaduct the staff member invited me into the vacant driver's cab at the back of the train. He watched bemused as said railway nutter took many photos of the railway line along the viaduct. Keep making videos they are a real entertainment. Oh, you didn't say if you made it to a toilet after you forgot to go before leaving the train at Seascale.
This was a very enjoyable Vlog G I stayed in Barrow in Furness when I visited the Cumbrian Coast Line the station car park there can be very confusing to exit it to head to the town I also stopped off at Seascale and the beach there is amazing and it was nice to see a steamer at Carlisle I’m assuming that was a rail tour I continued to enjoy watching your Vlogs G carry on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe
Another latest great vlog G! Free ticket to ride too! Even though there was a bit of rain it still looked fun. We did the same trip last September (rain too). Except we went from Blackpool North to Carlisle along the Cumbrian Coast and then down the S and C line to Leeds and back to BPL North. Carlisle station is always busy and fun. Looks like you got to see the log train going to Chirk Kronospan, the Green Climate Pendo, and BIL 35018 the British India Line with its train. Brought our memories back from our last trip to the UK. Ta muchly!🚂🌧❤
Hi G. Evil Mayo Here Great Video Greetings once again from Blackpool Always great fun and frigging cold! Off to Liverpool for day out, just past North Western, I always imagine you filming on the Platform. Darren
Great video. I noticed you got a shot of the Ashton memorial in at Lancaster. I remember how much you liked that from a previous vlog. Great work as ever..👍
Yes fantastic route right round Cumbrian coast and the best route of all carlisle to Leeds thank for taking us with u again G always a pleasure in your company, till the next time take care 👍🙂
Hi G, great vlog. Sorry you had to endure the rain showers. You might want to vlog journeys in the south to promote better weather checking my local Hampshire railway travel.
'its not as early as it looks it's just been 6 o clock.' how. Just how. I really cannot handle getting up that early. I think I did an 12 hour journey once and it broke me, and thats when I started at around 9 in the morning.
fab video as always G.. and of course one of my fab lines the settle Carlisle line .really good fun doing circular trips you get much more scope up North for better ones than i get down here in this part of Essex. any idea of the cost for us paying customers 😂😂😉
It was Ribblehead Viaduct that you crossed, I haven't seen that from the ground in person as well but would like to visit Ribblehead in the future but have crossed it a few times and once by steam as well. Awesome video G
Now you really have got me excited! A proper loco, "British India line". Brings back memories of one of their vessels, the S.S Nyanza I worked on many boiler tubes ago.😊
Most enjoyable, G, and nice to do a little reprise of the "Kirkby Stephen Station Stay" which was where my own personal "GLovesTrains" journey began! Well done!
Wonderful video, G! Great work on finding a destination that let you do the entire journey on a single pass. Even when the weather is a bit grim, the Cumbrian Coast Line still looks fantastic!
Super vlog G! Cumbrian coast and Settle to Carlisle in the same day, plus a beach and a pretty park... Wow, you really packed a lot in! Yes, remember your Kirby Stephen vlog and that was great too. Keep having fun sharing this with us!
I remember having a walk across the heath behind Studland Beach - half way - YES HALF WAY - along the path we were using were those signs warning of adders................I mean like have them at the start fella's so we can make an informed decision. It was like getting half way across a French field having passed through a barbed wire fence and seeing a sign saying ACHTUNG MINEN!!
"Oh my days!" how did I miss this vlog. Excellent as per usual. What makes this poignant, not only because you are in the vlog, is the fact my Nanna was a Lancashire lass and came from Seascale! I have never been there. Loving your sense of humour, "Sell a field" & " Walk then" LOL. The dark is drawing in again. I have noticed this when getting up early for work. Keep up the superb work, great stuff!! Ray x
I enjoyed that! I've been doing some circular trips myself, from Sheffield; e.g. Sheffield-Manchester-Leeds-York-Sheffield, and Sheffield-Stockport-Crewe-Chester-Liverpool-Sheffield. Always fun. I've been looking at the maps, and a run across the Pennines to Manchester, then up to Carlisle (perhaps via the coast route) than back to Yorkshire via the Settle-Carlisle line looks interesting.
Don't know if I've ever been on a 156? Unless ScotRail used them in my area when I was a bairn and I just don't remember! Neat journey, especially those beach views.
Thanks for the video G,awesome part of the world got some great pictures of the viaduct when on holiday up there love the Settle to Carlisle route. Want to go from Sussex to Carlisle via Leeds when I can afford it. When I do this when I get to Carlisle I have to come straight back or I wouldn't get home. Take care!! 🙂😎🚉🚉🚉🚉 🇬🇧💚
Very nice journey G lots and lots of scenic views especially on the s&c shame about the typical British weather 🌧☂️hope you managed to get dried eventually ❤very nice view from Ribble head viaduct i hope your next journey is a dry one 😎🌞🌞🌞
I remember doing a similar circle starting at Nottingham years ago. Snow on the tops very scenic. Cumbria coast was slow and bendy but also pretty. Enjoyed your version, brought it all back.
Nice railway vlog G. Great circle round the north You did there. All the scenery throughout looks fabulous. Leeds station is massive been there once. I enjoyed watching as always!
I did the walk between Seascale and Sellafield stations once. They don't make it easy to get off the beach on to the path that runs alongside the Sellafield works. Sellafield station is a complete dump, but as there's probably only Sellafield employees who use it, they've not done it up!
Might have been a "blessing in didguise " the fact you could'nt get in to Lancaster Castle, given it's history in regard to the "Pendle Wiches" trial, something you're well familiar with i would of thought. ( not mention innocent Irishmen , going back to the 1850's, if not before that. )
Another epic day, and you certainly made the most of your Northern travel pass. Ribblehead viaduct is a sight worth seeing, although it may be advisable to bring waterproofs, as the weather can be unpredictable.
I work for GBRF as a shunter soon to be a driver at Liverpool if you ever want any information on our services or charters let me know. May be able to get you a cab pass for one of your videos also. Keep the good work up.
A great vlog G. When I do rail trips, I hate the dreaded word CANCELLED. It seems to be happening more and more. Hellifield was right in the middle (3 mile rule(Northern only trains)) of your circular trip. I've used the 3 mile rule to do loads of circular trips. EG recent trip Wigan to Hall Road. Out via Southport return via Liverpool.
Lancaster is in the process of being destroyed by planners. 😢 Have you explored Carlisle to Newcastle? Stopping off for a visit to Vindolanda is a must. We did it one February and had five seasons in one day. (The fifth being everything thrown at us at once.)
awesome video im loving the whole route in this vlog very scenic and loving every place featured in this vlog and loving the Northern class 158s which ive ridden a few so far since ive been up North including 158758 i def will need to ride part of the S & C route as i was going to ride part of it if i was going to Carlisle while im currently in the North West but im going to try again next year keep up the awesome work
Yet again, a brilliant vlog around the Cumbrian Coast and on to the S&C from Carlisle G! Your frequent habit of venturing out to vlog on cold and very wet days is probably your best protection against being bitten by a snake (unless you accidentally tread on a sleeping one!). They are more sensible than some of us as they hate going out when it's cold; and don't go a bundle on getting wet either! ALSO.... When you set off to visit the Ribblehead viaduct from ground level one day, DO take waterproofs to wear over your woolies (a 'cagoule' for example) might be a very good idea to help keep you dry?!
@@GLovesTrains Hi G, - I think you know that Cumbrian weather can be even more fickle/unpredictable than 'The Wigan' weather: So while it wasn't raining as your train went over the Ribblehead viaduct, it was probably chucking it down not long before you got there; and may well have kicked off again soon after you'd crossed it - As you're discovering, 'there ain't any weather as unpredictable as S&C weather'!
@@srfurley Not sure exactly where the boundary is but does it matter? Surely most of our wet weather comes in from the West, so if it kicks off in Cumbria it'll be heading Eastwards eventually! :-)

Proper day out G! Superb value for money ticket, and the great thing about this route is it's a bit like the BBC series Coast. There is only a certain amount of items of interest they could cover in one episode so they returned to sections to tell more stories in a 2nd and 3rd series. You could do this outbound route again and pick up Ulverston,Maryport then when you reach Carlisle head upto Gretna Green and Dumfries complete with your best "oke eye thaaa noooo" impersonation 🤗🥰

Bit of an epic journey - looks like a lot of fun - great views too!
The perfect station would have flowing water, snowy mountains and a little sainsburys nearby.
