How the US can claim an extended Continental Shelf if it doesn't ratify to UNCLOS? Since the US doesn't ratify UNCLOS, what is the basis of its claim for additional continent shelves?
Crazy.
The US still observes and adheres to UNCLOS (and in fact it is traditionally the primary enforcer of it). It's not like the US is going around and trying to make some sort of loophole for itself, it's just that it's extraordinarily difficult for Congress to ratify anything that they don't see as urgent.

Honestly I hope we can do something like what Norway has done with their national soverignty fund to put the profits of exploiting our natural resources into investing how to divest from those industries.
We NEED to stop strip mining and blasting pollutants into the air from the fossil fuel industry. Lithium doesn't have to be consumed but could be recycled, it's byproduct for use also doesn't have known crisis causing properties (i.e. Green house effect). HVDC lines are an exciting alt to grid scale spreading of renewable production so hopefully that limits the need for grid batteries. It’s also significant as this would make the US larger than China on a “fair” basis. Before, the UN and CIA world fact books both included only the US coastal territorial waters when comparing sizes and not China’s so that the US would be bigger, but with the new extensions, even if China’s territorial waters would be included in a fair comparison, it would mean that the US would have more area in that respect, however still far less actual land area. I still think the extensions are pure bragging rights

Then other countries and definitely the neighbouring ones have gained as well. And, US is still delegating and hasn't even properly started the minerals exploration on the sea bed.
We should make machines that need ocean water to operate so that we reduce the height of ocean levels.
that could work we just need to do a lot engineering
where... do you think that water will go...? do you think it will just vanish out of thin air? no it will get pumped through a pipe to be put somewhere. even if its used as steam power, the steam condensates out of the air and then it just goes back into the tank/ocean. yea you could drain ocean water into inland resivours, but the amount of infrastructure needed to transport enough sea water inland for it to be usable is astronomical, and the cost of refining and purifying that nasty sea water into drinkable fresh water is expensive. yea it could work. yea its a cool idea. but its just impractical. all the land we would create would be hot horseshit for agriculture for at least a few decades, maybe even more until the ground becomes not sand
