This has been so complicated setting up this printer to my WiFi and computer I’ve been trying for hours and nothing yet! I have HP LaserJet Pro M404n model.
The model number is not even listed anywhere in installation packages. Only with a "Pro" inserted, during navigation, and only 1020 series mentioned in the packages.

I had to use my daughters computer to set up my printer. I upgraded my internet and router so had to reconnect my laserjet pro 15w. It was necessary to connect a usb from the printer to my HP computer(couldn’t do it with the apple) and log into my HP account - set up a printer connect it to the WiFi. Just so you know.. it was difficult but i figured it out after searching and watching videos and trying several times. It wont be so hard next time -LOL

Unbelievable, the only solution that HP could provide was to have access to my computer so they could install drivers and necessary upgrades. After an hour following instruction I still could not connect to my home wifi.

Windows 10 pro the operating system makes some automatic setup for m12w when you connect USB for the first time. I can do some basic USB printing thereafter, but I can not do wireless printing. If I removed the device in Windows settings, and changed Windows settings so that it does not automatically setup the device, I could not make HP Smart detect the device either. Self test page shows some SSID for 802.11b/g/n wireless, but I think it is from setting up the printer by some older version of Windows, by which it used to work.
@@HPSupport if I run the recommended software it will just extract and disappear. I have also tried HP Smart several times, disabled firewall in the router and in Windows, disabled VPN. Does it matter that Windows installs the printer automatically when I connect USB? I disabled that, but still it did not work. HP Smart tells USB is not connected even if it is connected. It can not connect to the WLAN even if it asks and gets Password. Wifi signal should be strong enough, at least it is for the laptop next to the printer.
@@HPSupport how do you reset wireless settings of this particular printer? I have tried pressing the wireless button for several seconds. Still the self test shows it remebers the old SSID.
I have a laserjet pro m404n and have been tryin to set up the printer for 2 hours with WiFi and even bought a USB and neither setup options work. I even re-downloaded the software and the printer is on the same desk as the laptop so it can’t be a distance issue. Why isn’t this setting up and I’m seeing other comments with the same issue

Hp wireless printer connection needs to improve for a faster and easier way for access wireless networks. 4155 plus has a short wireless range . Hp online support is excellent but some wireless printers models take to long to connect.
I was able to go thru all the steps for my HP LaserJet Pro M402n until it says that it is saving the network information on the printer via the usb cable. The next screen then says it cannot find my printer but shows the right network info. It says Issue: Unknown and then it won't do anything else. I had issues with connected to wifi and nothing worked. Not even this solution. How I fixed was simply press the Wifi button on the printer, when it stated blink I pressed the WPS button on my router and it connected within a minute. Don't need to install software for Windows 10 it simply works

@@HPSupport it's a m12a laser jet printer which is connected to my windows 7 laptop no error messages and the light is rarely blinking but when I press the power button, it remains steady and the printer is brand new 5 days old.

This is a big deficiency in these printers. Not even instructions supplied in the box. I've gone through various UA-cam videos that are not working. Will give this a try. Oh and not even a USB cable supplied so I have to look up and see what type I have to buy to use temporarily

Same here, it always hangs on "Checking your software needs". We have to set a static IP and set everything up manually. WPS doesn't work at all.
I wish HP would update these videos. The download experience is very different. (bottom of 2022)

If I removed the device in Windows settings, and changed Windows settings so that it does not automatically setup the device, I could not make HP Smart detect the device either. Self test page shows some SSID for 802.11b/g/n wireless, but I think it is from setting up the printer by some older version of Windows, by which it used to work.

@@HPSupport if I run the recommended software it will just extract and disappear. I have also tried HP Smart several times, disabled firewall in the router and in Windows, disabled VPN. Does it matter that Windows installs the printer automatically when I connect USB? I disabled that, but still it did not work. HP Smart tells USB is not connected even if it is connected. It can not connect to the WLAN even if it asks and gets Password. Wifi signal should be strong enough, at least it is for the laptop next to the printer.

Besides, I can not install firmware update for the device because the respective software can not find the printer.
@@HPSupport how do you reset wireless settings of this particular printer? I have tried pressing the wireless button for several seconds. Still the self test shows it remebers the old SSID.
I have a laserjet pro m404n and have been tryin to set up the printer for 2 hours with WiFi and even bought a USB and neither setup options work. I even re-downloaded the software and the printer is on the same desk as the laptop so it can’t be a distance issue. Why isn’t this setting up and I’m seeing other comments with the same issue

I had issues with connected to wifi and nothing worked. Not even this solution. How I fixed was simply press the Wifi button on the printer, when it stated blink I pressed the WPS button on my router and it connected within a minute. Don't need to install software for Windows 10 it simply works

This is a big deficiency in these printers.
Not even instructions supplied in the box. I've gone through various UA-cam videos that are not working.
Will give this a try. Oh and not even a USB cable supplied so I have to look up and see what type I have to buy to use temporarily
