    MAN I love this Dart. You ever notice how easy everything is to work on? Those days are gone for ever.

    I had a 1964 Dodge Dart GT convertible blue with black trim with bucket seats, a 225 cu in slant six and manual transmission. Started every time even with Midwestern below zero temps.

    My first car was a 1963 Dodge Dart Slant 6 pushbutton Torqueflite transmission. This sure brings back memories.

    The best styling of the 1963-66 Darts. You see more of the '66s surviving than the other three previous years, though. I'll take a '64 GT, in white with a red interior, and make it a hardtop. 273 V8 preferred, but I'll accept a 225 Slant Six, and power brakes assist, please, although my '65 Barracuda didn't have any power assists. The Barracuda was the same in and out color of your Dart GT. Gold was a popular color amongst these mid-sixties Mopar compacts. And THIS one, when new, must have given Comet, Tempest, and the new Chevelle a run for their money, with this car taking the prize for the better looking car than the aforementioned above three contenders. It helped, as well, since Studebaker's Lark Daytona was becoming a rare bird, and the waning dealership network became increasingly harder to deal with, that potential S.L. buyers would end up instead being put by their friendly neighborhood Dodge dealer into a fully equipped Dart GT, and be wiser for it.

    That's a sweet ride I always loved the early 60's mopars and the 64 Dart is one of them but my favorite Dart is the 1962 Dart 330

    My parents bought a '64 Dart GT new from Claude Short Dodge in Santa Monica. My father wanted a Slant 6 but they had a GT on the showroom floor with the then new 273 V8 (which I wanted - I was 17). It was identical to this one except the "spear" trim was black. Interior was the same. My mother fell in love with it and we took it home the same day. My older brother inherited it and I later inherited it from him. A great car with no even minor issues in the ten years it was in the family. Not super fast but no slouch either. Drove it to Oregon just before the hated 55mph limit went into effect. Sucker would cruise at 85 all day long!

    1964 dodge dart was my car it had straight 6 engine. I had maybe couple years someone stolen it. As far brakes go especially in a rainy day was hard to come to complete stop. It did had push buttons gears and the transmission park lever.

    Chrysler had a hard time designing their cars in the early 60s, but that one is very nice.

    • @jasonmoskowitz246
      @jasonmoskowitz246 3 роки тому +1

      Virgil Exner, who had designed the late-50s Mopars, went a bit too weird for the ‘61 models. Around 1962 he had left Chrysler, though his designs lingered until 64 or so, when his replacement Elwood Engl’s changes began to take effect. Elwood had come from Ford, which is why mid-60s Mopars look like early-60s Fords.

    This is a real survivor car. 1964 was the first year for the LA 273 engine and the last year for the pushbutton TorqueFlite transmission. The LA 273 was designed specifically to fit in the compact Dart body as the original A engine was too wide. The Dart/Valiant were well made cars in those days less so in the 1970s like most American cars.

    I was married in Jan 70’ and my father-in-law signed over the title to my New wife’s 64 Dodge Dart. No window washer, push button Automatic w/ difr Park. Car was so full of RUST Inside and out that in MAY 70’ the rear leaf springs both gave way. To get it back to the apartment every block I had to stop and jack the car back up so the fuel tank would scrape on the payment. Traded it the next more for a 67’ Mustang Convertible. .

      These Darts, as with the Valiant, and Valiant Barracuda, were demonic rusters, and got there early in life. That's why only a handful remain.
