Piet, really enjoy watching your videos, learn something new every video. We farm cereals and oilseeds up in Alberta, Canada, it’s fun to learn about dairying down in the States.
Happy, healthy, prosperous, blessed, wonderful New Year to you and your family. Glad you got to visit your family in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and the Aussie were able to get there as well.

Hi Piet, you talk about your goal of having more older age profile in your herd. Can you outline your genetic strategies, programs that you run that is moving you towards your goal. What company or outside help to you employ to help with this goal. What traits and selection criteria do you set for your longevity breeding objective.
The problem with doing it only certain areas is the cows will figure it out very quickly. Then u will get the issue of hoarding. All the cows will only want to stand where the rubber mat is. So best to either leave is all concrete or rubber Matt the whole barn but that gets expensive.
We have rubber mats in the parlor and holding area currently. I'd like to add rubber mats in the cross alleys between the barns, where the cows walk back and forth to the parlor in the future.
Hi Piet, Happy New Year! Your Production goals are attainable. DDGS always get a bad rap for butterfat depression, and I believe it is somewhat undeserved. We feed the milking herd 6lbs of DDGS and maintain a 4.45% BF and 3.4 P. A couple things that I think have been game changers since the price paid for BF went from almost zero to $3 plus. Rumensin, While it may have a place in early lactation, it's BF depression out weights its efficiency gains everywhere else, just have to look at Elanco's own research and use $3 BF. Elanco loves to blame DDGS, but here in the upper Midwest DDGS vs Rumensin is a no-brainer. MHA, A product like Alimet if not already used in your rations work great with DDGS and have a nice ROI with the current high BF prices. Like always, your cows look GREAT!!!
Happy New Year to you, your family & staff from Ontario, Canada! You do a great job showing us your day to day business! You have such a neat & tidy farm, inside & out! I think not having to pay for milk quotas like we do here is a great benefit! It is obvious you put your cows welfare as #1! You asked for questions: Does your Dad have specific jobs with the farm? How many Litres of milk is the average per cow per day? Is the same cow milked 2x or 3x per day? Do you have a bit of video of your trip in Netherlands? Do you sell beef or milk at your sister's creamery? How many days old is the milk on the grocery store shelf (from time the cow was milked)? Hope you don't mind the questions. Thank you!
I'll answer some of these questions more in depth in future videos. In a short answer, my dad has general oversight of the farm. Our cows are producing 91lbs of milk over 3 milkings currently. No video of the Netherlands, the trip was for family time. We sell both meat and milk through the creamery, whole pasteurized non homogenized milk and chocolate milk. Thanks for the questions!
Hi Piet, you're videos are always interesting but sometimes you forget to tell your findings. Just like today. You're checking out the manure of your cows and as a fellow farmer i know how important that can be. So i am kindda waiting for your findings but you never tell in the video. That could be something you could try to improve in your videos. It has happened before😉 Just a tip from another cownerd.
Cows and heifer ration formulation strategie and there costs and economics pls . Thank for your time we really like the channel and we like it to go forwards
like what you are showing would like to see milk trucks and how many loads a day are going out have alot of eight axle milk trailer around us here in the thumb of michigan
I can show loading milk in a future video. Currently 2 loads per day, 3 loads every 3 days. We can't load near as much as the trucks in Michigan can due to weight limits. Those eight axle milk tanks are cool to see!
As far as preservation, really good. As far as quality, I'm satisfied with the protein numbers but I think we can get the digestibility numbers higher by cutting a little sooner. I'll talk more about this throughout the growing season. I'm planning to grow the Italian ryegrass sorghum mix again.
Some of the a2a2 milk is be stored separately. Only the amount of milk our creamery uses is kept separate, for now the majority of our a2a2 milk is not kept seperate from the rest of our milk.
You could touch on breeding beef vs dairy. Do you say breed all heifers dairy for faster genetic improvement and some top cows and the rest beef? What % of cows/heifers breed beef vs dairy?
This is something I touched on a few videos ago, I'll talk about it more in a future video. We're making breeding decisions based on genomic testing results. Currently 70% of heifers and about 30% of cows are bred to sorted semen, the rest is bred to beef.
De koeien blinken mooi Piet, conditie is top. Is er meer toekomstperspectief bij je nieuwe melkerij of betalen ze beter dan de vorige? Is er blauwtong in Amerika geweest? Groetjes 🇧🇪
Our oldest cows currently in the herd are 9 years old, one soon to be 10 years. It takes a special cow to stay in the herd that long with the next generations of better genetics coming in.
your camera and light work is fine for me. Its context sensitive, you are filming farming. Your content is already what i want to see

Thanks for watching!
Could you explain what is an A2A2 cow

Hi Piet. I am an avid reader/listener to your video contents. Video lighting quite ok for me. Technical issues on the dairy perfect! Keep it up!
Thank you!
Your videos have been totally fine with me. I watch for "edutainment" value, not to scrutanize cinematography.
Good afternoon to all 🙏 Thanks for the video
Happy New Year Piet en familie greats from Holland ❤
Happy New Year!
Can you make a video on your fresh cow protocol
Thank you for the video. You have an amazing operation.
Thank you!
How do you determine which heifers and cows to keep in the herd and which ones to cull. I believe would be a good video.
Merci beaucoup pour tes vidéos...

you may have to buy your own chopper if you want the best crops

Yes, I touched on some of your questions in past videos, but I'll definitely address them in future videos.
Do you ever use rubber foot mats around the main water trough areas, for foot comfort?
The problem with doing it only certain areas is the cows will figure it out very quickly. Then u will get the issue of hoarding. All the cows will only want to stand where the rubber mat is. So best to either leave is all concrete or rubber Matt the whole barn but that gets expensive.

Was wondering how the cows get to the milking parlor? Do they go outside to get there
The milking cows don't need to travel outside to go from the barn to the parlor, there is an enclosed connecting building that the cows walk through.

One thing you could do is put in cow brushes. Cows really seem to enjoy them and helps them appear cleaner.
I'd like to try stationary brushes, but I'm a little resistant because of the amount of maintenance it takes to keep cow brushes functioning.

Happy New year Piet family and employees
Super results production and components, good longevity
What is average lactation cows in your farm?
Happy New Year! Current average lactation is 2.9
Feliz año desde España, soy granjero y te sigo ,enhorabuena
Happy New Year!
New year bro
Happy New Year!

Im dairyfarmer too.
Have you ever given robotic feeding any thoughts?
Not with the current systems available. The size of the robotic mixers need to get larger for us to consider it.

Ze betalen beter en er is meer toekomstperspectief bij de nieuwe melkerij. Geen blauwtong in America dat ik van weet.
how old can you keep cows ? 5 or 6 years old ?
Our oldest cows currently in the herd are 9 years old, one soon to be 10 years. It takes a special cow to stay in the herd that long with the next generations of better genetics coming in.
I see nothing wrong with what your doing, it is a working farm which is interesting
Great video Piet, you might laugh but in my day if you had a cow that gave 50 pounds a day you had a good one.
It seems to me that you have more cows in in pen than beds. Is that true?
Generally, I try to keep the pens close to 100% stocking density based on the number of beds. Currently, we are about 3% overcrowded.
Hi
Hi!
Do you speak Dutch or do they speak English?
I speak dutch, but my wife and kids do not. One of my Omas speaks a little English.
