Something worth noting is that, at its weakest, Patrol still unjunks your next turn's hand; while it is better to have an alternation between fantastic turns and terrible turns than it is to have a string of mediocre turns, it's even better to have a fantastic turns alternating with mediocre turns. Patrol also happens to be a decent enough defense against top of the deck attacks, such as Swindler or Bandit, since 0 to 4 cards is less than one hand, and most things that attack the top of the deck go to 1 or 2 cards, but it at least lets you put the cards you'd prefer to be hit on top to absorb the blow. It isn't the worst to have your opponent Swindle a Copper into a Curse, since now Patrol will start picking it up, but you could also top deck a card that you wouldn't mind not seeing due to there being no other cards of that price point, or even having your Chapel turned into an Estate.
The defense against top of deck attacks doesn't work because you draw those cards at the end of your turn, so they're in your hand by the time the attack is played.
Derp. Brain went weird when thinking through that line. I guess it can in the case of any reaction or duration attacks that don't yet exist? But the only point to thinking about theoretical card design is to explore cards that are currently missing another card for its combo piece. For example, as powerful as Possession is, it never truly devastates your opponent, but now you can lab away your opponent's entire deck with Way of the Horse. The only way for Patrol to work as top of the deck defense then, would be having some way of playing it outside of your own turn.
Oh yes, a card with the text after the +3 cards and with a +1 action instead would be really good, it never would be removed from the game. I also know a good price for it, maybe 4? Oh, and a good name aswell, scout seems nice for me. Nice video!
