    The trick with the shepards hook clip is insert it on the opposie axis and flick it into the horozontal home axis then.. it makes it a simple jop as opposed to a painful job and a risk of it ending up in the sump

    Excellent experience, my 750 is not shifting stuck in neutral but advancing the starter hasn't worked, lot of play in shifter rod, 1/2 play any videos on engine removal

    • @CFG750
      @CFG750  11 місяців тому

      Sounds like your retainer clips maybe broke or fell off the shift lever. See 1:00 in my video…so what you’re saying is that here you have lots of play in the shift lever?
      I don’t yet have any videos for engine removal. It’s a goal of mine for this channel to eventually do that! But in lieu of that, check out VN750.com and search for engine removal or engine tilt threads. I n on now a lot of members have done this on their own and written guides for the process! It’s doable, just takes a lot of patience and time.
      If you haven’t done so already, feel free to create a profile and introduce yourself and ask questions about the engine removal process. There, myself and the other members will help you out every step of the way!

      Of course! I got you. I'll add how to remove the R/R (regulator/rectifier) to my list and take care of that in June. I need an "easy" video for me because this downshifting issue I fixed took me a month of tinkering. I've taken off the R/R before on my bike and it's not bad.

    • @CFG750
      @CFG750  5 місяців тому

      Oh no, how'd it break? The only way to get in there and replace the tie rod is to tilt (or otherwise remove the engine) from the frame. Otherwise, there's not enough clearance to get that left side stator/engine case cover off and away from the frame. (You can see this demonstrated in the video link below). Sorry, homie.

    • @CFG750
      @CFG750  Рік тому

      You're talking about the circlips that hold the shift shaft and shift lever in, right? If so then you'll just need to remove the left side case/stator case cover. But to do so you will need to tilt the engine or remove it from the frame. Otherwise there is not enough work to do the job.

    Could that paw piece cause no shifting at all?

    • @CFG750
      @CFG750  Рік тому

      I saw your DM over at VN750.com so I’ll reply with more info for you there since you had to lay down your bike in that accident. But basically the pawl selector could fail outright and leave you unable to shift. But since you dropped the bike I’m thinking your circlips on your shift lever broke off and now your shift lever won’t work.

    Hello, I have a 1997 kawasaki vulcan VN750
    I bought it in not running condition thinking i can save it.
    The bike is in pretty good condition but nobody wanna work on it because its over 20 tears old.
    The bike is almost impossible to start one time i started it after cranking for 10 minutes and it was running on 4k rpm also when cranking there is loud pops from exaust sometimes.
    If anybody can point me in the right direction I would be really grateful,thank you.

    • @CFG750
      @CFG750  Рік тому +1

      Since the bike is able to start (albeit not easily), but it runs at 4K RPM I think you may have to clean out or otherwise rebuild the carbs. The carbs on this bike are difficult (but not impossible) to remove and reinstall. I have not yet dones this myself. I think you should address your starting/running issue before thinking about the pops. The loud pops could be a side effect of whatever is causing your bike to run at 4K RPM.
      If you haven't done so already, create a free account over at VN750.com. Introduce yourself and provide some more information (if you have any) about this issue. Myself and other forum members will be able to better help you out over there.

    • @CFG750

      This sounds like an issue that could be related to the pawl gear selector! To investigate further, you would need to drain your oil and then remove the pawl cover. Check out ~12:30 of this video and I talk about how the cover and bolts are removed but it’s a very straightforward procedure.
      There’s not enough clearance to remove the pawl cover completely, but at least you can rule some things out. Make sure the shepherds hook is seated correctly. It’s common for that piece to get knocked out in an accident and it could prevent proper shifting. Make sure the pawl moves smoothly left and right. Feel free to also post some pics to VN750.com and introduce yourself. Myself and others can help further.
      Lastly, I do also want to temper your expectations. There’s isn’t much that can actually be done do fix broken components here in the pawl cover. Yes the shepherds hook can be replaced and the shift drum on the right side inside that pawl cover can be replaced (I think) but the entire pawl assembly is held together with a nut from the other side, which would require an engine split to access. Same goes for the shift lever, circlips, and shift linkage. They would all require the engine to be moved and/or removed to allow for the clearance needed to do this job.
