Vile's fret shape after he hits the pedal for the instrumental part @ 433 is straight up sick. Thumb on D, G open & middle finger on B. This song's in an alternate tuning as well. The version of this on Wakin on a Pretty Daze blew my little musician's brain when I first heard it. I still sit gobsmacked with my mouth hanging open when I play it. Vile is one seriously talented musical prodigy.
So strange seeing Steve Gun on rhythm guitar, considering he's got his own full blown solo career going on now too. Very cool to see two very talented songwriters playing together 👍🏻

I hate to be a killjoy and usually don't bother commenting on videos I don't like but after reading a review by Kristin Kolb on Counterpunch that said this was the best song of 2013 I had to give it a try. What I thought was that this song was uninteresting, simplistic, and played without talent--very amateurish. The melody (or lack of) was terrible, the lyrics--I haven't a clue just pointless, the singing boring, and the point of the electric guitar coming in and pretending to put some emphasis on trite lyrics was stunning. And to top it all off it ends with a clown whanking on his over abundance of pedals as if to say.......what? If you think I don't like this song you couldn't be more correct.
because where is the chops? these guys don't have any chops. anybody could do this. if you don't have chops you just should give up. give me chops any day.
***** When you wrote that somebody declared this the best song of 2013, I wasn't surprised. I think maybe you started listening to the song with skewed expectations. Personally, I'm answering you because I really want to see my own explanation as to why this song is kinda mind-blowing. First and foremost, lyrics: This song exemplifies the Hemingway sorta method of understatement. The song communicates a very oblique, difficult-to-pin-down emotion. The lyrics are roundabout (a la Hemingway) because the emotion is so scarcely communicated. The solo, for example, is there not just as an obligatory guitar solo or whatever, but to sort of go deeper into this complex emotion. The complex emotion is, as discussed prior to the solo, about this guy remembering a girl who, for whatever reason, things did not happen with for the narrator. IDK: You know what I mean? You see this girl, and, shit, she's with this guy. Fuck it, man, embrace the sportscar illusion. And those fukcin' random power chords that don't really go anywhere... And that fuckin' keyboard at the end... Plus, this song's placement on the album is spot-on.
I think about this song all the time.
And Alex...
I named my girl dog Alex... after "girl named Alex.. "most folks, don't get it...too bad for them
It's pure genius. His best song ever
same
I have a daughter named Alex... So definitely I think about this song all the time. 😬🌹

the hit count went up significantly
I discovered this song in 2023 and it is outstanding.
Had this on repeat. Never get bored.
Steve Gunn on acoustic guitar!!! What a lineup.
his haunting slide work makes this version so much better than the album version.
this guy reminds me so much of Neil Young in his early days. I'm not comparing their work, it's just that phisically, the atittude, the way he sings..
Neil was a lot more aggressive in his fingerpicking
I totally agree, only he's original, just as neil was. He listened to a lot of Neil Young growing up, so I suspect the influence is embedded.
@@Schodboyblves I wasn't aware that Neil Young fingerpicked. I've never seen him...

yeah. and someone put it well, in a comment on another vid, melancholy without being depressing, but hes even better at doing that than niel was
I love this song so much...I want to live in my infinity fantasy too
Infiniteh fantasy! x
In the dawn's early light
I recall a girl named alex

At least in my head
I think about them all the time
I think about them all the time
Think about them all the time
Think about them all the time
I wanna live all the time
In my fantasy infinity
There I will never be abandoned
There I'll have a handle against
Everything that will never happen to them
And me
Hey that's what I say
I wanna,
I wanna walk out into the night
Without it bein runnin away
From a bad day in my brain
For the sake of a strip that I could be cruisin
In the comfort of a sportscar illusion
I think about them all the time
I think about them all the time

Maybe I came to Kurt late, but some things are timeless.
this guy does the name Kurt justice within the music scene.
Its a shame. there is such great music out there that people are missing.
I love the guitar, it sends me into a trance!
Pure genius.

This is incredible.
I love this man so much
the drummer does look like Russell Brand, if he had Andre the Giant living inside his skin.

I never knew how good this band was until I discovered one of the members is my distant cousin from Pennsylvania. I discovered this music on accident.

What a girl...
I wanna hear an album with Jesse on acoustic, rob on bass, and kurt on acoustic. No drums.
love for kurt
He continually reminds me of Miles Davis. He kind of floats above the time and it all makes sense.
A no mames que buena rola 🙏
Neil Young - 1972
He listened to Bob Dylon a lot in his youth i suppose.
Venite in Sardegna a suonare, cazzo!

Wow!

This song takes on a new meaning whilst the edible melts in ones tummy.
What pedal is he using at the end to get that extraterrestrial sounding noises?
Romey Sullivan I think it is a looper / delay pedal by Line 6
It is like alien sex haha x
Anyone else get a modern Tom Petty vibe from Kurt?
Stephen Tyler on guitar?
THEM THEM THEM
When did Russell Brand take up drumming?
Back when Steve gunn was in the violators
Why did he leave?
@@Warrogue1 he plays solo, has amaszing albums you should check him out, his tiny desk concert is incredible.
