Absolutely AMAZING sounding!!! Thanks for confirming my decision to buy this pickup. It’s also cool to hear how little gain this amp has compared to modern high gain amps. Listen to the isolated tracks from King Edward and they sound a lot like this. Great video!
Great playing/sound/technique. The SD '78 sounds better than the EVH Frankenstein on a Strat: I wound up putting a Custom Custom on mine, but I miss the lows. The Frankenstein sounds a little too ice picky to me on a Strat; the '78 does not, but it's got some low end bite.
It's a fairly cheap relic set I got from MJT with guitar. Maybe All Parts or Gotoh? Its unbranded. Ironically it keeps going out of tune at the moment so I want to change the nut to brass!
What made you put it in the strat? I see some EVH style guitars in the back? Just curious, you sound great! Incredible playing! I have a ‘78 model on one of my Classic Series Kramer’s.
@@paulscape72 yeah I have a strat with one in three bridge and a custom Ibanez with the bridge back set and you are correct. They aren't cheap and add up quickly.
First thing I have to say is the master volume on that amp must be amazing to sound that good recorded on 1! I am about to build a similar guitar, actually with MJT. I have two questions: 1) does that vintage trem stay in tune pretty well while doing Eddie style dives on it? I’m debating between a Floyd rider or a vintage trem. 2) what wiring did you go with for the HSS? This is very close to what I’m going for tone wise. I appreciate the vid!

Yep it will sound good with Floyd too! This is standard spacing but on fender trem, not much difference, maybe less crunch than F spacing. Floyd and fender bridge spacing basically same thing.
I play the 59 on some of my other videos. It’s a bit weaker in gain. The 59/custom hybrid is however one of my fav pickups and worth a look! I’m putting a frank pickup in a Kramer soon so will post that up when complete.

There’s a guy on UA-cam here that tells you how to set them up so you reduce as many friction points as possible so they stay in tune

No I would love a wolfgang but they are getting kinda pricey now!
@@paulscape72 just a bit cheaper than this SD 78 lol !
I love the sound of that ‘78 pickup!!!
Is the echo in front of the amp or in the effects loop?
Yeah echo in front! Although I do have a 2nd delay in FX loop as well for VH pedalboard
Evidence that 'the sound' comes from a Marshall and a low-ish (9K) gain pickup, not something in the 14K range like the current EVH offerings.
