Hey John, what's your preferred brand for front wheel bearings? I'm going to replace mine soon but I only see the Chinese SKF kit available on FCP Euro. Thanks for your time!

There's actually nothing wrong with the SKF bearings they are very good. Not all Chinese products are bad. Schaeffler also makes a good wheel bearing kit. Part number is 116-330-00-51 and the cross reference part number is 713-6674-300. FAG is another brand name made by Schaeffler. Schaeffler has manufacturing plants in the United States and they are made in the USA.

John, I watch and enjoy all your videos. I was wondering what type of grease you use to pack the wheel bearing? Also I noticed you didn’t use a dial indicator to set the pre-load. Have you had any issues using your method. I’m re-doing the brakes on my W124. Thanks

I like to use timken wheel bearing Grease. But you can use any good wheel bearing specific grease. If you don't have any experience setting preload then yes you could go through the trouble of using a dial indicator. But if you've done wheel bearings on hundreds of cars you can do it by feel no problem. You just snug up the nut until there is no play in the wheel bearing and then you back it off a little bit. It would be best to have a professional show you how to do it. No one uses dial indicators to put on spindle nuts. At least no veteran mechanic I've ever met. That sounds like something an engineer would print in a manual ;)

@@woodsandbarclay Thanks for your speedy reply. I was just reading different MB forums and several folks recommended using a dial indicator which I don’t have. I’ve only changed bearing once on my other old car (‘75 Corvette) and I used your method. Folks were saying that MB uses a closer tolerance. I’ll just use your video as a professional showing me how to do it…😎

@@ronstjohn6780 don't believe everything you read on the internet those are mainly armchair mechanics have never turned a wrench in their life. Using a dial indicator to put on a spindle nut is ridiculous. ;)

ATE. These were the original equipment manufacturer. Same as the calipers.
