You would have to have a cold heart not to feel something watching Buzz shut off the machine on Coop like that. I don't get misty eyed often, but I sure did this time. When he shut off the machine, and he got weak in knees, so sad. There is a reason Justin Deas has all those Emmys, and he sure needs another one after this!
If not for that camera editing and location crap he would have had a 7th. But he would have had to submit lead. He wasn't beating Billy Miller just like he didn't Greg Rikaart.
He always gave his "all" to a Scene he did. This explains why he got Emmy Awards for every part he played with the exception of Dr. Bucky Carter on Ryan's Hope. In the UK there's an Actor who's alot like Justin Deas as Buzz. His name is Adam Woodyat who at the age of 16 started playing Ian Beale on Eastenders in 1985 and he's the only "original" Cast Member who like Buzz runs Cafes & Restaurants. He goes through alot but he always tries to do the right thing.
What an amazing show Guiding Light. I just don't get it. This beautiful ensemble piece gets caneled, but they leave the other tripe they call "reality tv" on forever! What the ell?!?
I hope to God that GL will live on, but only if it returns to THE REAL GUIDING LIGHT. Every single thing about my all-time favorite daytime soap is horrid now! I don't give a damn about budget cuts. As I said in another comment, go out with a bang and ON TOP! Now, the ONLY saving grace that GL has is the return of Grant! I am thrilled that he is back, but I haven't seen any of his scenes b/c I have them recorded but I can't bare to watch.
Off the subject, becaus we ALL know what a great actor Justin is! He has been a favorite of mine since 1975 - Ryan's Hope! But it is time to cut the hour soaps to half an hour, one hour is just too much for the average working person, even if you tivo it, thats five hours of tv on the weekend, plus anything else one might watch. It would cut the production cost in half, and people like me, could tune in daily. I think its time for to rethink the dayime soap format again.
Y&R would NEVER DREAM of using digital cameras! Yes, Y&R has a terrific budget, but soap operas are supposed 2 LOOK & SOUND "pretty," even when the worst things are happening. I love Justin D. & he is amazing in every scene, but Coop's death was as terribly unaffective as the death of Gus. I didn't FEEL anything! Back track to the deaths of Hart, Richard, Tammy-Those scenes were rip-your-heart-out, damn-good drama! Even the new theme song is wretched...So sad...
He was involved with Beth Raines and when Alan found out he was furious. He decided to Blackmail Beth by making him marry her or he'd hurt her Children. Coop found out, drove to the Church to try and save her but he crashed his car.
what's happened to the production values for this show. I hear they shoot it with handheld cameras, i haven't watched in years as I live in the mid east now. I have tuned in after hearing about its demise. Can someone fill me in.
The show's budget was cut by one-third. Going to handheld cameras was done to save money. Using them kept the show on the air around 18 months longer than it would have been.
@@keithalvarez6229 But it's not just the cameras it is how they were done. They went so far as to go off location with all the outdoor sets and using this indy music. ATWT had the same issue but kept it a bit more traditional.
coop was one of my favorite characters...and a beautiful actor.
One of the most powerful scenes in all of television.
I cry every time I see this. Justin Deas was spectacular! Give the guy an Emmy.
Justin Deas is an outstanding man as Buzz Cooper. Knowing how sad and aslo heartbreaking it was for his character to lose his son.
Poor Buzz...first his wife, now his son...I really *really* hope someone goes after Alan and brings him to justice.

I always loved Justin Deas. He was my favorite "Tom" on As The World Turns. He was always such a class act since his days on Ryan's Hope

So what happened to coop?????
