Just gorgeous singing. Ms. Barton is already one of the true great voices of the 21st century with an spectacular rich, creamy and effortless instrument and one of the few with a technical skill at the same level of the greatest singers of the golden era. We are so lucky to have an artist of such caliber and honest personality among us. All the best to this young lady on her career and thank you so much for uploading this live recording.
The reason I love amateur videos is that they can sometimes catch things that professional equipment is set up to filter. For example, here, you can hear the entire building about to colapse from that much volume. Not that that is the only merit though. This interpretation easily shoots up to the top three best O Don Fatales I've ever heard.
@lalagonegaga YES! Thank you for posting this. I love the recording quality for the very reason you mention. I love JB's voice but was not expecting this. I'm surprisingly overwhelmed. Damn! PS. What are your other 2 favorite "don fatales" ?
lalagonegaga Barton is fantastic! Who are your other favorites? Mine are Dolora Zajick (who I saw in the theater as Eboli), Shirley Verrett (who I saw, as well), and Ebe Stignani (way before my time). I know some fanboys will rave about Callas, but I think her version stinks.
It can't get any better than this!!!! Goerke and Barton both fantastic! Why can't we have a great production of La Gioconda in the UK???? In the last 30 years, a rather sad production at Holland Park opera, a good...if truncated...production at Opera North with the wonderful Rosalind Plowright.
Robin Middleton Saioa Hernandez is a great Giocanda. She made her debut with Aida at Covent Garden. Saioa Hernandez & Jamie Barton together would be a dream cast for Gioconda & Aida. Excuse the tenor & Baritone. Arnold Bourbon Amaral 👱👴🎵🎶🎼💙💐🌎🌍
I love when female singers really belt out the chest notes. Making a stylistic choice to add color or dramatic effect is not always going to be "perfect technique." Anybody that enjoys Callas is well aware of this. Y'all need to get over yourselves.
me too. Price used to be criticized for not letting her low notes ring out. I dont know why she chose not to do them because she had them to be sure. I listened to her Bess and she sounded like a mezzo in that register. I loved it.
Nailed it beautifully. I wouldn't recommend she hang in this repertory, though. She's young so she can recover but her metier would be the lower tessitura roles.
First: the orchestra is to loud. Second: she Sings like a good international singing mezzo at the END of the career. There to many Sharp Ranges in her scale. I think she Sings to mutch. But today this is normal. Singing a few years, earn money and that was it. But there is no doubt- she is a Great Talent. Not more at the time. And: she Sings better then my english
No, no, NO! I blame the awful acoustics for the ugly chest notes and shrill top, as I love JB. But where was the characterisation, the subtly, and worst of all, where was Princess Eboli? Way too much 'I can belto', way too little 'I can express a complex character'. Sorry...
Jonathan Linto , sorry but the performance was great . I wish the big part of femenine voice of today could sing as she does and not with the whisper . A woman should sing as a man , that said Melocchi one of the greatest singing teachers .
Shes vibrating correctly. You (and everybody else) are used to hearing wobbles and tremolos. The correct vibrations are much closer than what we're used to. Now you can actually hear the pitch. With time her vibrations will get wider because it's very hard to hold the voice steady for a long vocal career.
Wonderful voice, but this recording does her no credit. I feel quite sure that a studio recording would have critics trying to outdo one another with plaudits. There is a distance to the microphone and a slight echo-i-ness. I thought amateur video and recording were illegal.
How very very nice to hear a big but beautifully balanced voice again....wow

THIS.
Indeed!

Dave Glo Florence Quivar set the bar. But JB is packing the heat here. I’m an instant fan.

One of the true greats, and still very young. Shattering volume and total control of her amazing instrument.
World class all the way
Wow. It’s clear why the met cast her as eboli in 2022. Now the world will notice her. She will be a big star. Well deserved.
She was great in it.
What wonderful chest voice. Truly gives me hope for the future of opera.
Magnifique voix
Brava Jamie! You are my idol!
get in line! lol
Incredible!
O mia belta, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Yes, lawd!
Unbelievable voice!
Excellent performance!

Her Azucena in the Royal Opera House was fabulous… She has a giant voice
Oh my goodness!!! Marry me, Jamie.
You'll need to budget for food
Wow she looks so beautiful here and her voice is just fab!
She has stated "I’m not interested in roles created by the patriarchy any more." I wonder if this applies to Verdi.
bravissima!

Damn good voice there
Would love to hear her sing Urlicht from Des Knaben Wunderhorn
BRAVA!

Vocalement impressionnante, mais sur scène, dans un personnage, on ne peut pas y croire pleinement.
А мне больше понравилось исполнение тут ua-cam.com/video/0d5vSa2YGqY/v-deo.html
Тут я ей верю, а на сцене в Москве она выпевает ноты.
Oh come on. Much beautiful singing here, but lots of crude chesting and 3:65 are 4:46 are screams.
voce di petto ingolata .
registro acuto strangolato .
la scuola del canto lirico moderno ...
questa sala ha una acustica meravigliosa !
Ahimé quanto ha Ragione
LISTEN to EBE STIGNANI, a Genuine Mezzo-Soprano, devoid of shouting
Please give soprano Kasondra Kazanjian a listen
Yes, but where is Princess Eboli? A complex, vindictive, scheming woman of great beauty...
Her beauty is in her voice, where true beauty in opera lays.
I prefer Dolora
jonathon waetford go watch Dolora clips
Jose Abraham All day until you go into a self induced coma. Arnold Bourbon Amaral

in the Tchaikovsky hall in Moscow, great acoustics !
It's just that this party is not for her voice
Jonathan Linton the chest notes are meant to be powerful and masculine. What do you dislike about them?
Nonsense. This is gorgeous sound. Nothing ugly here except your sexism and sarcasm parading as pedantry.

Not her role.
Het head tones are nearly straight tone....that bothers me
Do you mean a lack of vibrato?
It really shouldn’t bother you, but they aren’t straight tone anyway it’s just the phone mic causing you to think that.

@@jimbuxton2187 Please give soprano Kasondra Kazanjian a listen
@@vincec8218 thanks Vince...I listened to her and enjoyed her voice. A VERY steady tone she has..! Notice how accurate Kasondra's pitch is...
Spinge troppo gli acuti. Senza una linea legata.

Not illegal just impolite and frowned upon.
You don't want her using that miceophone. She chose to move it.
Is there anything this woman cannot sing?
Countertenor?
