Hi everyone! Thank you so much for supporting this new channel-it means the world to me! By the way, have you heard about the new travel rules coming up this year? Don’t miss out-check out my video on the must-know Travel Rules for 2025: ua-cam.com/video/slW9QRMSdUg/v-deo.html
I actually would rather drive that endure the horrors of flying. Drive, smell the roses, see the scenary, stop and talk to people over coffee, explore, find new things...
It blows my mind how so many people bring giant "carry ons' plus giant personal bags. Drives me nuts because they hold up the line getting their shit in/out the bins
Right! I don’t know how many times I’ve sat there and watched people board with full sized suitcases and humongous duffle bags and wonder how those bags weren’t required to be gate checked. How do some people manage to bring on bags 2 or 3 times the size of the max required size still boggles me.
Thank your god that seems like that's finally over with size restrictions. Hope the airlines enforce that vigorously! Every one that gets away with it only encourages others to do the same.
How about weight restrictions on passengers themselves? I got stuck with two oversized people on a seven hour flight and their girth was invading my seat, airlines need to address this scenario and make them buy extra seat so people’s space not invaded
Whoa, that's definitely a tight situation-literally! 😅 Airlines could probably use a better strategy for balancing comfort and space for everyone. But hey, if they’re charging for snacks, bags, and even extra legroom, maybe a “personal space upgrade” should be their next add-on. Let’s just hope they don’t start weighing all of us at check-in-imagine the chaos!
It's about time. I am so tired of people whose carry-ons are so heavy they cannot even lift them into the overhead bins. Or try for 10 mins to slam the door shut
0:37 New universal carry-on size 56 x 36 x 23 cm / 22 x 14 x 9 in 1:27 New carry-on weight limits 8 - 10 kg / 17 - 22 lbs To minimize carry-on weight, always wear your boots and heavy jacket on board 2:08 New personal item size 45 x 35 x 20 cm / 18 x 14 x 8 in - must fit under seat in front of you. No exceptions 2:35 Liquid restrictions are lifting but not consistent. Play it safe. Pack small travel sizes in a pouch. Pack larger liquid items separately. 3:23 Electronics - dead devices are not allowed through security. Power banks: under 100 watt hours (Wh) permitted. 100-160 Wh needs airline approval. Over 160 Wh - banned. No more than 15-20 lithium rechargeable battery devices - phone, iPad, laptop, ear buds, smart watch, camera. The list goes on. 4:17 Smart luggage restrictions. Battery MUST be removable. 4:57 Overhead bins
I swear these rules have already in place (for UK airlines at least) for a few years now. Literally nothing has changed in this video 😂 Except the liquid thing but most UK airports still go by the 100ml limit etc anyway 😛
Lol I get it, flying can be a hassle! But hey, sometimes the adventure is worth the flight, right? 😄 Maybe it’s time to dust off that passport and embrace the excitement-who knows, you might just find a destination that’s worth the flight!
Well, it's too expensive now to drive cross country, and I do have to stay with my 97 yr old mother for a few months per year. I go early so I can relax in the USO lounge, and I bring a carry-on that is just an inch or so smaller than the allowable size. And no purse.
Some of the backpacks people bring on are the size of a large suitcase, they are so big they don't fit in the overhead bins. Not to mention people wear these massive backpacks while boarding and hit people/crew.
One thing I have been doing for years while traveling in winter is bringing a small nylon gym bag so I can stuff in my warm clothes AFTER boarding. Works great for trips from NYC to a warmer climate.
One time I was flying internationally with a checked bag, a carry-on roller, and a guitar. The gate agent said I’d have to check the Lowden guitar. (If you know this guitar, it’s an Irish made instrument, and NO ONE in their right mind would check it.) I said, “See you in a few,” went to the side, packed my North Face expedition jacket with every single thing in my carry-on, fit the carry-on luggage into the checked bag (it was huge). The gate agent looked at my jacket, which at that point was standing about 3 feet upright on the ground, and said, “What’s that?” I said, “My jacket.” She looked a little puzzled and then let it pass.
Travelling to London in December, a friend showed me how to secure an entire winter outfit (including long boots - which fitted into the sleeves)into a long warm coat (which had to be ‘casually thrown over my arm’)
I flew recently to Hong Kong from Toronto, for 10 days, and only carried a backpack, with measurement that is exactly 9 in x 14 in x 22 in, I flew economy and was zone 5, last to board, and even at zone 3, they announced that they will start gate checking carry-on, so when I got to the gate, I started to give them my backpack, they took one look at it, and say that's okay, the announcement was only for hard case roller-on. I think the hard case roller-on is harder to squeeze into the overhead, while the backpack has more give, and easier to fit The reason that I did not check luggage was that I had to transit through the US, checked bags are checked all the way on the way there, but on the way back, you would have to claim your luggage at the port of entry, go through custom and then recheck the bag to Canada, it can very easier cause you to miss your flight
Other times that I fly if I know the bags are checked all the way back and forth, my preference is not to bring any carry on, not having carry on bags reduces the stress of flying by 99.9% ;-) I commuted from Toronto to Wisconsin every week for a few years, and I only brought a brief case, I made a deal with the hotel to leave my stuff there, and drop off my laundry to wash and fold on the way out, and pick them up on the way in the following week, so I only packed one change of underwear and socks in my briefcase. This came in really handy when I miss a flight or have to change plans, and one time boarded the wrong plane...to calmly board the plane and take my seat at last call was very relaxing after the chaos of boarding was mostly over
I have over a million miles of air travel. The only thing good about air travel is you can get somewhere quickly. The rest is barely tolerable; I do all I can to not take a single trip in a year.
Wow, over a million miles-you're practically a member of the Sky Legends Club! 😄 I hear you, though-modern air travel can feel more like a marathon of patience than an exciting journey. But think of it this way: all those “barely tolerable” moments lead to incredible destinations, unforgettable experiences, and stories worth sharing. Maybe it’s time to find that one trip a year that feels worth it-who knows, it could reignite your love for the skies! ✈️ Where’s somewhere you’ve been dreaming of?
Australian here ; it seems to me we are very lax here in enforcing any carry-on rules . Some of the bags I’ve seen are bigger than my checked-in ones . Time for a change I feel , just enforce the rules.
LOL. I’ll believe it when I see it! I’ve seen guys with GIANT backpacks stuffing them into overheads, not to mention the oversized cases you’ve mentioned here. My carryon fits under the seat. I just want to know WHO is going to police this and will they be capable of dealing with irate passengers.
Right? It’s like a game of Tetris up there, and some people are way too confident in their oversized luggage strategies! 😂 As for who’s going to police it, I imagine a team of very brave gate agents armed with tape measures, steely determination, and a lot of patience. Let’s just hope they don’t need riot gear for those 'irate passengers' you mentioned!
@@jackih9682 The first line of defense should be the gate. It's not fair to slack off and be chickenshit and have the attendants deal with sneaky entitled people who get angry and turn into Karens and Kens.
Right? It’s like airlines are charging us for every little thing now! Remember when the price of a ticket included actual perks? Like a checked bag, a snack that didn’t come with a side of regret, and maybe even a seat that reclined without giving you a heart attack? Now you’re lucky if they don’t charge you for the air you breathe! Seriously, if they start charging for the seatbelt, I’m out!
European airlines have been enforcing strict weight and size rules for years. I tend to fly carry on only and aim to fit my bag under the seat..I tend to travel for roughly a week, so don’t need too many clothes for that length of time.
My sister told me a great one. Fill the suitcase/carryon with all the good stuff, one change of clothes, find a goodwill or thrift store at your destination and for about $10 you can get well dressed, and just throw them away before leaving.
A couple of years ago, Lufthansa weighed my carry-on. I had some read and then discard magazines, so I was ok. When I returned, I bought the lightest bag I could find for my MacBook Pro, medicines, headphones, and some reading material. For my personal item (briefcase), I carry a GeniusPack High Altitude bag. It has labeled spaces for my iPad, iPhone, passport, reading material, and some other things. It will fit vertically under the seat, so I can still put my feet under it.
Solution; no fees for checked baggage, fees for carryons except what can fit under the seat, greatly improved checked bag retrieval after landing (airline/airport) procedure.
This isn’t anything new about size restrictions it’s just that people are allowed to get away with full size luggage plus a backpack the size you use to go camping for several days .
😂 "Right?! Boarding late sounds chill until you're playing Tetris with overhead bins and someone's neck pillow is the final boss. Pro tip: Board on time, claim your overhead space, and watch the latecomers struggle like it's free entertainment!
Those with lots of carry on luggage don't only cause a line up, but also delayed the flight, on one of my trip pilot keep announcing they are ready for take off and yet still there was a line of people still putting their stuff in over head bin.
I do this in the U.S. and we do NOT make the average flyer turn on their electronics. This is for people with certain rare situations only! We have not been instructed to start doing this to everyone now.
My experience with Chinese Souther airlines. Shenzhen airline . Not allowed 🚫 inspect your baggage at the check-in counter, security check counter, boarding gate and in the cabin. Baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged as per excess baggage rate
Airlines should charge for carry on bags and make checked luggage free. It will speed up boarding and solve the bin wars problem. Air travel is miserable these days.
Some people abuse with the personal ítems by bringing backpacks as large and heavy as the carry on luggage. In my opinión, they should allow slightly larger and heavier (13kg?) carry on such that the personal items can fit into the carry on. This would guarantee that people have space on the top bins and avoid people to rush into the airplane (people makes lines before the section # is called) to assure a space in the top bin
You are misinforming the public the green picture says something else other than what you say😅 the personal item should be 16 inches by 6 inches by 13 inches and the picture says for the carry-on bag is the maximum is 21 inches by 9 inches by 15 inches Mahmoud Firas
That's what I always do. I used to use the bin above me, but sometimes, other passengers open the bin and I can't see if they are messing with my bag. Now I use the bin across from me so that if and when someone opens it, I can keep an eye on my bag.
@@DocPetronWow...... so if someone stands in front of you to check their own luggage, you'll stand up to check what they're doing. You'll also stay awake all through a night flight just in case........
When traveling internationally, the 3-1-1 does not apply. The UK, for instance, does not allow 3.4 ounces. They allow only 3 ounces flying out. They have been light-handed with this rule, but a bottle of perfume at 3.4 ounces can be confiscated. Perfume is expensive. Check international rules for liquids, measurements and weights of luggage. They're pickier.
You are allowed 100ml per item, most perfumes are 50ml or less, what's the problem. I live in the UK and have never had anything rejected, I stick to the rules, it's not difficult
I've watched some youtubers long ago explained about why the carry on cannot exceed a certain weight. It's for passenger's safety, he said if there's a heavy turbulence, and the overhead compartment is empty save for that one overweight item, it may get flung around inside, gain momentum, and ultimately, broke the compartment open and fell upon someone's head. We've all seen it happen. As for the size, I think the airline got fed up with having to check in a carry on due to the overhead compartment being full because someone was shopping excessively and had lots of plastic bags placed on the overhead compartment. I've seen a group of 3 people boarding early and immediately occupied one whole section of overhead compartment that's meant for around 9 people. But then again, imposing the rule of "if it won't fit, stop shopping" is detrimental to the airport / country.
I am a musician. There is a regulation in place, negotiated with the F.A.A. by the A.F. of M, that once an instrument is placed in an overhead bin, it may not be removed. As a woodwind player, I generally fly with a clarinet, flute, piccolo, and a saxophone (usually tenor.) The first three I fit into an instrument bag designed to fit under the seat. As for the tenor, if I were to check it with luggage, there would be no point in my travelling. Buying another seat would have to be at my expense, so most of my paycheck would go to my horn's round trip ticket; not an option. What do I do if it's clear that my awkwardly shaped tenor case isn't going to fit with all of tbe other carfy-ons? I take that as a given when booking my flight, and fly earlier in the day than necessary. This way, when I am asked to gate check my instrument, I can ask if there is another flight later in day, explaining that my instrument likely will suffer damage, and I won't be able to work when I arrive. (Yes, I know who the repair techs are at my destination, but that knowledge is for emergencies. Expecting to have my instrument repaired each time I fly should not and must not be considered standard operating procedure!) Nearly always, that gesture is appreciated, because it demostrates that I understand that bringing an instrument on board is a little disruptive to their regular procedures, that I am flexible, and a willingness to do my part to avoid avoidable drama. That helps them help me, and they are far more willing to do so if they possibly can. Usually, the gate agent will call a flight attendant, and ask to have it placed it in a first class locker, and that takes care of that. Otherwise, I actually do get re-booked, with a guarantee that my tenor will be on board with me. On shorter flights that use small planes, which have overheads too small to accomodate a horn like mine, I will fly first class, paying the difference myself if I have to (usually around $75) so that my tenor can go in the closet. I must say, though, that in the two or three instances when there was no way around gate-checking my tenor, the bag handlers at both ends knew what it was, and were gentle and repectful. (My favorite was the guy who took it directly from my hands, and cheerfully said, " Don't worry, we'll take good care of your baby.")
IF they were scrutinizing carry on baggage storage, then there would just about be ENOUGH storage for every seat 🤷🏽♀️ I still see people putting jackets, and more than 1 item in the overhead bins while the flight attendants stand by smiling and greeting the guests as they do this 🤦🏾♀️
Jackets: I once saw a guy neatly fold up his suit jacket and lay it flat, occupying half of the overhead bin while occupying the other half with his carry-on, then closing the bin. A flight attendant helping some latecomers opened that bin and made space by shoving the jacket into the back corner anyway--Karma! Laptop caution: A colleague had laid his laptop bag flat in the bin (it was the only way it could fit) and only discovered after the flight that the laptop suffered a cracked screen after someone else had jammed their bag on top of it.
The threads below made me think of an idea for a cool video. How about a video of someone putting various carry-on bags into various airline sizer frames to see if they fit. Or equally as interesting, maybe a video of someone measuring a sizer frame with a measuring tape and a straight edge to see exactly what they actually measure. (I've seen the comment on the 'net that the sizer frames are actually cut just a little bigger than the official 22x14x9 size.
More rules to add to the enjoyment of air travel! Some comments: Overhead bins only became a problem when they started making mini suitcases with wheels designed to fit in them. Ban that sort of case. Boarding the plane early is a nonsense - you board the plane when they tell you to, if not row by row from the rear, then by class from the front. Best way to travel if you can manage it is not to have any checked luggage at all! I've flown from New Zealand to London, and last year from NZ to China and back, with just my cabin bag and jacket and it worked fine. But you do have to be extremely choosy with what you take. These new rules will make your choices even more critical. But the joy of bypassing tedious baggage claim carousals cannot be overstated.
Haha, I totally hear you! ✈️ The "mini suitcase with wheels" craze has definitely turned overhead bins into a game of how-much-can-you-cram-in-there 😂. Yes, you can board early-if you know the tricks! Some airlines allow early boarding for passengers with specific needs, like those needing extra time to settle in, or for premium ticket holders (like business class or first class). But of course, the typical “row-by-row” system kicks in once everyone’s aboard. So while it's nice to snag those overhead bin spaces first, remember it's still all about the timing and the type of ticket you’ve got!
It's the people with a small suitcase, a backpack, a personal item AND a bag from Duty Free who piss me off. As well as the representative at check in who says NOTHING!!
I feel your pain! It’s like a game of Tetris in the overhead bins, and some people are clearly playing with extra pieces. Hopefully, airlines step up and enforce the rules a bit more-duty-free haul and all! 😅
I have just read a lot of these comments, by all of you commentators. Everybody has a legit beef! And what I love is seeing someone Ask a question, and then see that Othershave replied to it. I think that’s absolutely wonderful helping each other out. As we know, smart people ask questions, dumb people just sit there. And all of your complaints are so valid! And kept them all at a professional level. I was scares me. The most is people going crazy on a plane! If someone has high anxiety, they have no business getting on that plane! Thousands of feet up in the air. And then they want to pull some junk like that? I read a lot of these complaints and like I said they are all very valid! I love that! GOD BLESS YOU ALL! IN THE HOLY MIGHTY NAME OF CHRIST JESUS OF NAZARETH! GOD BLESS GOD! JESUS LIVES! SAFE TRAVELS! AMEN!
I really miss when they had boxes over the X-ray tunnels. (Bag no fit? Tough s___t. Check luggage that way. Next!) No 60lb "carry on" bs. If its got wheels, it ain't "carry on", Einstein.
Ah, the good old days of "if it doesn’t fit, it ships!" Simpler times, right? Maybe they should bring back those boxes and add a "no wheels, no drama" policy-problem solved! 😂
I don’t fly very often, but when I do I always want a book to read, and possibly writing materials, so I need to be able to carry those on board. Thru won’t fit in my purse, which I also need to have with me, so if I am restricted to just one carry-on bag I need one big enough to put my purse inside of. This can be challenging!
You might check into a small overnight roller bag. I had one to hold my laptop, etc when I travelled for business. It will fit under the seat or in the overhead
If you sit in the emergency row seats, you HAVE to put EVERYTHING in the damn overhead lockers for take-off and landing. Me and my mum got caught out by this last year. Was so awkward because the person in the aisle seat had to move so we could put our stuff in there. Never booking those bloody seats again 🤣 We only did it for the extra leg room lmao
Please remember that when those overhead bins were designed, they were intended for a hat, a lightweight jacket, a small souvenir or the odd makeup case. I check one bag, wear my jacket or roll it under the seat, and don’t even bring a purse on board. So if I occasionally want to stash such a small item in the overhead bin, I’m hardly being selfish just because interferes other travellers have gotten used to co-opting the space.
@@L-wh6vy The latest interiors, e.g. 787 and 737 MAX, plus renovated aircraft, have larger overhead compartments designed to take standard carry-ons in a vertical position. I think the 777 had this first. Since interiors are replaced every five years or so, the older planes, e.g. 737-800, should increasingly have these larger O/H bins. An awful lot of 737s and 320s still have the older small bins. Although I haven't flown on one yet, I believe the A220 has the larger bins. I have no idea what current A330s and A350s have. The modern bins are the ones which the whole bin swings out, the older ones have just the doors swinging out.
That’s a bummer! Guitars can definitely be tricky with carry-on rules. One tip is to check if your airline offers any special provisions for musical instruments, as some might allow them onboard if they're in a specific case. Or, if you’re not sure, it’s always good to reach out to the airline beforehand to confirm. Hope you find a way to travel with your guitar!
Suitcase: 22"x14"x9". [56c36x23cm for our soon to be 52nd State. Vote for Statehood, and you can dump metric] Just saved you a minute of verbiage. My old roll-aboard in 2" narrower than the requirement!
Thanks for the math and the statehood pitch! 😂 I see your roll-aboard is a minimalist overachiever-maybe it’s secretly campaigning for 'Most Compliant Bag of the Year'? As for the metric system, let’s just say it keeps things... measurably interesting!
One slight correction. 4:40 Electronic locks, the TSA will destroy them. If they're "TSA compliant", then the TSA might destroy them, or they might use the TSA key and toss the unlocked lock inside the suitcase. Depending on how the lock is built, the lock may or may not be usable after this.
i can say 7 to 8 kg for carry-on when traveling from Philippines to Singapore and vice versa and to Kuala lumpur or south Korea. we experience that last year until this year January. so they are strict. but going back to US carry On is okay no weigh limits unless if its too bulky.thank you
Ah, I see! While your airline may not have updated their carry-on rules yet, many airlines are working together to standardize things. So, even if your airline hasn’t made changes, it’s a good idea to stay on top of the upcoming updates. The size and weight rules could be enforced more strictly soon. Just a heads-up to avoid any surprises!
I know, right? Airlines are pretty tight-lipped about these new rules! 😅 It’s like they’re trying to keep us in the dark! Airlines are still rolling out updates on the new carry-on rules, so the info might not be front and center on their websites just yet. To be fair, airlines haven't universally changed their carry-on size rules, but some have started enforcing stricter guidelines or updating their policies, especially with international flights. My video focuses on helping travelers navigate these variations and prepare for any surprises at the gate. Hope this helps!
The whole bin war wouldn’t even be a thing if travelers were required to place their bag above their seat and not above some rando seat in the front that they are not sitting in. THAT is what causes all the mess. Got a seat in the back? Take your bag with you to the back and put it in the bin above YOUR seat. You can’t board early if you are not in the group that boards early so that isn’t the solution.
Haha, right?! It’s like a game of musical chairs, but with luggage. If we all just followed the golden rule of “Your seat, your bin,” the whole overhead mess would vanish.
I know right? LOL board early - not an option if you’re flying with easyJet 🤣 Last time I flew with them, they boarded our row from the back, even though we were nearer the front 😂 And before anyone asks why would I fly with them then - I live 5 mins down the road from Gatwick Airport (so obvs I’m not gonna fly from somewhere else) which is easyJet’s main hub. It’s hard not to fly with them lol 😂 Plus saving money and getting a flight time that suits, is well-worth it even if it means a clusterfuck of a boarding experience 🤣 You soon forget about it once you’re sat down and on your way 😄
@@catemoon Easy. FA sees you put your bag in a bin and then proceed away from that bin to your seat, FA stops you and says, grab that bag and take it with you to the bin above _your_ seat. Federal law requires you to comply.
@@EmpowerUJourneyExactly! And people used to follow the golden rule. I don’t think anybody every thought of sticking their bags above someone else’s seat 20-30 rows from them in the before times. It’s like a domino effect. One yahoo jerk started doing it and then pretty soon everybody was doing it. Like, nobody is the least bit courteous anymore.
Great observation! U.S. airlines might not have updated their websites yet, but the changes are rolling out gradually, especially as they adjust to new international standards and stricter enforcement of existing rules. It’s always a good idea to double-check directly with your airline before flying. Pro tip: Some airlines may enforce these rules more strictly at certain airports or on specific routes, so being prepared is key.
@@EmpowerUJourney This just shows the poor management of too many airlines - their web pages could be updated in a matter of hours, not months. They could, if they wanted, start enforcing size restrictions within hours, but they can't make any decisive decisions without several committee meeting and an "action plan."
I'm waiting for the inevitable day that airlines measure your size and weight then charge accordingly. The conveniences will also attract a per-use charge, and there will be an additional charge for seat cushions, blankets and safety belts.
Oh, absolutely, I love this! The day they start charging us by weight is coming, right? Next thing you know, we’ll have a “seat belt surcharge” and a “blanket tax.” Imagine if they start weighing us before we board-step on the scale, and boom, there’s your ticket price! 😅
The "universal carry-on size" is more of a trend airlines are leaning toward for consistency. The info came from a mix of airline announcements and travel insiders keeping an eye on evolving rules. It’s not exactly stamped on every boarding pass yet, but airlines are leaning toward standardizing sizes to reduce the chaos. Always double-check your airline’s specific guidelines-things can vary!
Great catch! You’re absolutely right-those 'universal' carry-on measurements I mentioned in the video are more like general guidelines, not a hard rule. Many airlines have their own unique size limits, so it’s always a good idea to double-check your airline’s specific requirements before you pack. That said, airlines are working toward standardizing these measurements to make things easier for travelers, but until then, checking ahead is your safest bet. Thanks for pointing that out!
The other rules that deserve mention relate to carry-on weight. Most US airlines don;t appear to care, but many other have a 10kg limit. Some have a 7kg limit. If you fly with a laptop and camera gear, this can be a big headache. The only counter-strategy is to check a bag with your heaviest lenses, but there are many downsides to that. Cost, wait time, loss, damage, theft... If all airlines could agree to 10kg/22lbs it'd be much easier.
@@cathybrind2381 By not having a Commercial License. Oh, And Karen's aren't allowed in my vehicles...
I understand the reason for requiring electronic devices to be powered up, but that in no way proves the device is not a detonator or a self contained explosive. A person knowledgeable enough to build an explosive inside a device can certainly make it simulate a boot up.
Your information about "universal carry-on size is incorrect. The EU has been trying to get this done since 2019. As of date, there's NO "universal " size limit yet. There is, however, a weight limit of 22lbs combined between carry-on and personal item.
Video at 5:00 shows passengers loading carryons in the overhead bin wrong. The wheels go in first so that the bag is not in sideways taking up too much space.
That can vary with different airplanes. The bins aren't always big enough to hold a bag wheels-first, but if they are, then yes, you should absolutely put it in that way. Some bins are large enough to hold the suitcases up on edge, so even more suitcases can be packed in this way. But some bins can only hold suitcases as shown in the video. If it's not obvious how to pack the suitcase most efficiently, ask a flight attendant.
@@rupe53 That's true on most newer large airliners, the ones by Boeing and Airbus, where coach seating has a window, middle, and aisle seat. But there are still some smaller, narrower regional jets and turboprops used in airline service where the bins aren't that big.
@@richardcochran260 been there, done that... and they will usually tell you ahead of time or at least instruct people as they board. Any thinking person will follow tradition and maximize space for others by at least trying to put their bag in the narrow way first. Also saving that bulky coat till after all bags are in stowed.
so my laptop, that has had a dead battery for about 3 years, and i only use on the power cord, is no longer allowed? i travel with a lot of camera gear, for professional business. im not checking 10s of 1,000s of dollars of equipment so how does THAT work? i already cram as much stuff in to my camera bag and carry-on for what im going to need but if they reduce the sizes of the bags allowed, how does this even work? will the airlines insure and protect my gear if it has to be checked?
Unless you can persuade them to let you plug it in, or you bring a small power pack with an A/C output - but might be hard to find one that's legal due to the 150W rule. You could try removing the battery but TSA is probably not going to let that fly [pun intended]. Then again if you can remove the battery you have the option to just buy a new one. New batteries are available for pretty much everything that isn't a sealed unit and the non OEM ones are usually pretty cheap.
😂 True! Nothing beats the luxury of a road trip where your car doubles as your overhead bin. Unlimited legroom, zero liquid restrictions, and your snacks are always first class!
A flight with Alaska Air asked me to put my carry on, the correct size and under weight, in storage at their cost as other passengers had too many bags. Why not change those with extra bags. My carry-on has medications that if lost are detrimental to my health. Luckily it was not lost.
My tote bag goes under my seat. Has meds, liquids, computer, phone .my carry on fits in bin. Never put meds in u suitcase.u might never see that bag again
Great question! These rules aren’t limited to American airlines-they’re being implemented by many international carriers too, as part of a broader push to streamline boarding and ensure safety. As for when they apply, it depends on the airline. Some have already started enforcing stricter rules, while others are rolling them out gradually. It’s best to check the specific guidelines of the airline you’re flying with to avoid surprises at the gate. If you let me know which airline you’re flying, I can help you find the exact details! 😊
I'm a "rookie" at this, and I am concerned after reading all of these comments..... so I'm just going to ask my question... do the Quince bags, the 20 or especially the 21, fit inside the "sizer frame" that airlines have at their boarding gates? I understand the 22x14x9 standard, but not sure how it is applied. I'm a bottom-line kind of person, so simply asked..... if I buy a Quince 21 "carry on" bag, will it fit inside the sizer frame at the airport? As I understand it, if it doesn't fit into the frame then I could have my bag gate checked or I could be forced to check it. I'm simply looking for a bag that I can use as my carry-on and know with confidence that on American, United, and other US based airlines that I don't have to worry about my bag being taken away.... Can anyone help?
Hey there, rookie traveler! Great question-you're doing the right thing by asking upfront. The Quince 21-inch carry-on bag should technically fit within the standard sizer frame (22x14x9), which most U.S.-based airlines like American and United use. However, here's the catch: the airlines don't always enforce this consistently at all locations. That said, if you pack it smartly and avoid overstuffing it so it keeps its shape, you should be good to go! Also, keep an eye on the weight limit-some airlines can be picky about that too. Happy travels, and welcome to the carry-on life!
@@EmpowerUJourney Oh, wow, it's you. Hello expert traveler! Thank you so much for taking time to write. I'm an engineer, so I tend to worry about fit and accuracy. 😊 Thanks for the information, I've really been confused by all this. I've never had a rolling carry-on before. I've been using a travel bag, over my shoulder or with hideaway backpack straps (MEI and Tom Bihn bags). I travel once or twice every month on business, and then some fun travel as well. I've gotten pretty good at packing and traveling light over the years. But I'm not 30 anymore and carrying that 20 lbs on my back is starting to be uncomfortable. So I've decided to listen to my adult children and give a roller a good try. Major Worries: One of the things that worries me the most is finding a bag that will fit the airline requirements (the current ones, anyway). I know about the 22x14x9 requirements, and I think that is what concerns me the most. I've looked at the Quince website, and the "21" carry on" bag is called a "21" bag", but they describe clearly that it measures at "22.8" H x 15.6" W x 10.5" D". You explained that the sizer frames at the boarding gates measure at 22x14x9, which makes sense. But that should mean that the Quince 21" bag shouldn't fit the sizer. But Quince says it does. So that is what is leasing to my confusion ..... and a headache!!! I've even checked some of the other well reviewed wheeled bags, like Away and Samsonite. Those brands seem to be as big as the Quince, If not even a little bigger. And I also wrote to Quince customer service, who responded that their bag would fit the bag sizer that the US based airline uses at their gates.
Medication and health equipment I am diabetic insulin required and cannot be frozen I have chronic sleep apnea use Bipap machine I am on a nebulizer breathing and I use a walker for safety I have had my walker damaged every time I fly protection for this heath equipment protection idea would be awesome. I am a functional 81 years old and would like to stay that way.
I totally get your frustration! Here are some practical tips to help protect your equipment: 1. Pre-board: Let the airline know about your medical equipment in advance, so you can board early and stow it safely. 2. Use a Protective Case: For smaller items like your BIPAP or insulin, consider a hard-shell case to protect them from damage. 3. Gate Check Your Walker: If you’re worried about damage, request to gate check your walker instead of placing it in the hold. Hope that helps! Safe travels!
Great question! Most airlines allow medicine and medical devices in your carry-on, and they often don’t count toward your luggage limit. Just be sure to pack them in their original packaging and check specific airline policies to be safe! 😊 You can check also TSA website if you are in the USA - What can you bring? www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all
Original packaging?? Out of the question. I'm now 86 and I've had it over ten years. I have no problem taking it n trips between Turkey and Cologne, Germany but, of course it was before the new rules. Regards, David
Haha, that would definitely make things interesting at the check-in desk! Not sure how airlines would handle that kind of math. But yeah, we can all agree-space on a plane is pretty precious no matter how you look at it! Wait and see!
Showers should be mandatory. Being stuck in the middle seat with 2 folks with bad hygene is something no one should ever have to endure. Before you think I'm being mean, go try it and let me know how it feels for multiple hours....
I had the correct size in 2023 and in 2024 it no longer fit under the seat. Bought smaller than required and it still didn’t fit. It contained my work laptop and I had to put it in the overhead. I can’t reach the overhead so didn’t have my headphones either. I hate flying period. By the way- personal underseat bag is 16 x 13 x 7 and smaller than what you mentioned is the new size for 2025 and it did not fit under the seat on United Plus and First Class or JetBlue in mid 2024.
Wow, sounds like you’ve been through a personal-bag saga worthy of its own travel blog! It’s wild how "standard sizes" seem to vary by airline-or maybe by some mysterious in-flight geometry. Let’s hope 2025 brings more consistency in this chaos.
Great question! If you're flying within or from the U.S., the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is your go-to for carry-on rules about medical supplies. If you’re traveling internationally, check the equivalent agency in your departure country or contact the airline directly-they’ll often have guidelines for accommodating medical needs. Pro tip: Bring any prescriptions or documentation from your doctor to avoid delays during security checks.
I really dont want to keep pressing this. Are you speculating about these changes? Or, do you have a source you can cite? I have looked all over the news and the only thing I found is that these changes are for Europe. AA has fallen in line with Europe's new rules because they fly internationally. Which makes sense to standardize. This takes the worry about your luggage size if you're connecting to go overseas? I dont see anything about plans for other U.S airlines to follow suit.
Only you and the plane staff knows you will be in a bulkhead seat so anything that can’t fit above you maybe they can find you a space for the usual “under the seat” but it’s tricky.
Carry on baggage was never an issue until the airlines started to charge for checked bags.
It’s not so much about the money for me, its because they loose them!! Even 3 days without your bag on a weeks vacation really sucks
@@jaynewelton8448that is exactly the truth! You check in your bag and never know if you will see it again. Or maybe destroyed.
I actually would rather drive that endure the horrors of flying. Drive, smell the roses, see the scenary, stop and talk to people over coffee, explore, find new things...
Airlines have always charged for checked bags but it was just already included in the ticket price.
@@KevinOlson-io3dm True, and now that people know that they won't be charged extra for carry-ons, more people carry-on their luggage.
Totally agree with you!
Plus the handbag, plus the duty free.....
Duh, it’s a ripple effect of charging for checked in bags.
Oh wow how dreadful. I d be " accidentally" bumping them. 😄
It's about time. I am so tired of people whose carry-ons are so heavy they cannot even lift them into the overhead bins. Or try for 10 mins to slam the door shut
0:37 New universal carry-on size 56 x 36 x 23 cm / 22 x 14 x 9 in
1:27 New carry-on weight limits 8 - 10 kg / 17 - 22 lbs
To minimize carry-on weight, always wear your boots and heavy jacket on board
2:08 New personal item size 45 x 35 x 20 cm / 18 x 14 x 8 in - must fit under seat in front of you. No exceptions
2:35 Liquid restrictions are lifting but not consistent.
What about smart watches like Garmin or Apple. Very lightweight. Wonder how they're affected?
I swear these rules have already in place (for UK airlines at least) for a few years now. Literally nothing has changed in this video 😂 Except the liquid thing but most UK airports still go by the 100ml limit etc anyway 😛
Thank you for the recap! 😃
EU has different size restrictions. Carryons that are standard in the US and Canada are not the same in the EU. Be warned
Charges for overhead bins are cure illegal in and out of Spain, but this is being challenged.
Good, fed up with it , and airlines need to stop people bringing 4 or 5 carry on bags too
I don’t have to worry about this, I got so sick and tired of flying I quit 20years ago, my motto is if I have to fly there I don’t need to go there.
Good advice but I can't study in an in-class American university without flying to the US unfortunately 😊
WOW!!! That's an extreme outlook. Lol
Plus it makes a nice pillow with cloths or blanket inside.
@@harryhoesch3793 why would I pack a blanket if I am already wearing warm clothes? (too warm for my destination)
I like that! Thanks for the tip.
GOOD ONE! GOOD JOB!
I think the hard case roller-on is harder to squeeze into the overhead, while the backpack has more give, and easier to fit
The reason that I did not check luggage was that I had to transit through the US, checked bags are checked all the way on the way there, but on the way back, you would have to claim your luggage at the port of entry, go through custom and then recheck the bag to Canada, it can very easier cause you to miss your flight
ALL bags carried on should be soft bags, for that very reason.
Good advice! thank you.
Other times that I fly if I know the bags are checked all the way back and forth, my preference is not to bring any carry on, not having carry on bags reduces the stress of flying by 99.9% ;-)
I commuted from Toronto to Wisconsin every week for a few years, and I only brought a brief case, I made a deal with the hotel to leave my stuff there, and drop off my laundry to wash and fold on the way out, and pick them up on the way in the following week, so I only packed one change of underwear and socks in my briefcase.
I hope so also. Screw the conniving, sneaky people who try to sneak around all the time and make live miserable for the rest.
Agreed!
😂agreed!
@@mutteringmale You mean immigration and airline officials?
100%right
The flight attendants shouldn’t have to deal with it, because those bags never should have been allowed onboard to begin with.
@@jackih9682 The first line of defense should be the gate. It's not fair to slack off and be chickenshit and have the attendants deal with sneaky entitled people who get angry and turn into Karens and Kens.
AMEN!
I feel like the airlines are in cahoots with luggage companies, who must welcome the idea that luggage becomes obsolete on a regular basis.
It's despicable that airlines can even charge for luggage, especially when it used to be covered in the cost of a ticket.
And tickets are now, relative to inflation, cheaper than ever. Stop complaining - it's a good deal.
It’s there to pull you in with the cheap initial ticket cost!
@@KevinOlson-io3dmThe service is subpar, yes even in business and first class. I pay for upgraded service and it still sucks.
It is a bus with wings.
European airlines have been enforcing strict weight and size rules for years. I tend to fly carry on only and aim to fit my bag under the seat..I tend to travel for roughly a week, so don’t need too many clothes for that length of time.
that's great! you're a sawvy traveler.
Good to know about this bag.
Wow, checked out that Genius Pack and they are overpriced. No thanks for me, but glad it has helped you.
Solution; no fees for checked baggage, fees for carryons except what can fit under the seat, greatly improved checked bag retrieval after landing (airline/airport) procedure.
I wish! But I doubt we'll see that happening anytime soon. 😂
This isn’t anything new about size restrictions it’s just that people are allowed to get away with full size luggage plus a backpack the size you use to go camping for several days .
Good point! people use to have a heavy backpack as nobody (airlines staff) checks the weight before
Agree.
I'm flabbergasted by UA-camrs who suggested us to board late, like he/she never find a problem to put the carry-on at our overhead bins 😊
Yes, this is very annoying!
There must be a weight and size restriction of passengers. If the passenger is huge, they must purchase 2 tickets.
😅😁 love this! let’s petition for that.
Baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged as per excess baggage rate
thanks for sharing your experience!
Airlines should charge for carry on bags and make checked luggage free. It will speed up boarding and solve the bin wars problem.
Air travel is miserable these days.
Agree! but don't forget the issue with losing bags by airlines.
Or theft!
but if they misplace your they pay you pennies for it and you have wait and make several calls with agents with bad attitude
Problem is, that makes sense.
Great idea
Some people abuse with the personal ítems by bringing backpacks as large and heavy as the carry on luggage. In my opinión, they should allow slightly larger and heavier (13kg?) carry on such that the personal items can fit into the carry on. This would guarantee that people have space on the top bins and avoid people to rush into the airplane (people makes lines before the section # is called) to assure a space in the top bin
That's a great idea! Maybe one carry-on AND one personal item-that would definitely solve some overhead bin Tetris!
You are misinforming the public the green picture says something else other than what you say😅
the personal item should be
16 inches by 6 inches by 13 inches and the picture says for the carry-on bag is the maximum is 21 inches by 9 inches by 15 inches

I hate when some passengers takes someone else overhead bin
They always do and it’s annoying
No one ‘owns’ an overhead bin.
You take what you can get.
Bins are shared space.
They're pickier.
good info! thanks
But then again, imposing the rule of "if it won't fit, stop shopping" is detrimental to the airport / country.
yes safety first!
The flight data are based on the complete aircraft weight including not only passengers but also luggages on board!
No, we all haven't seen that happen.
About time . Those overhead lockers should fit at least three peoples carry ons not just one wheelie bag for inconsiderate passengers.
I am a musician. There is a regulation in place, negotiated with the F.A.A. by the A.F. of M, that once an instrument is placed in an overhead bin, it may not be removed.
As a woodwind player, I generally fly with a clarinet, flute, piccolo, and a saxophone (usually tenor.)
The first three I fit into an instrument bag designed to fit under the seat.
Expecting to have my instrument repaired each time I fly should not and must not be considered standard operating procedure!)
Nearly always, that gesture is appreciated, because it demostrates that I understand that bringing an instrument on board is a little disruptive to their regular procedures, that I am flexible, and a willingness to do my part to avoid avoidable drama.
Thanks for sharing. I’ll remember this when making carry-on rules for specific people like musicians in the future!
IF they were scrutinizing carry on baggage storage, then there would just about be ENOUGH storage for every seat 🤷🏽♀️ I still see people putting jackets, and more than 1 item in the overhead bins while the flight attendants stand by smiling and greeting the guests as they do this 🤦🏾♀️
Agree with you but I guess this is due to customer service.
@lennyl6856 oh dear!
I have also recently been asked to check in my camera tripod after trying to bring it through in my hand carry backpack......
Good! The bags people drag onto planes has been out of control for a long time.
Totally agree!
Be so sweet if airlines follow through on carry-on sizes. So sick and tired of the overhead bin HOG !
Thank you for the idea! I'll keep you posted.
@skipintexas checkout @alysmalls she does videos just like that
More rules to add to the enjoyment of air travel!
AMEN!
Thanks for your comment. I agree that some people should not travel. Safe travels to you too!
Oh, I know the struggle! That’s why I’m all about those flexible, roomy carry-on bags that can double as a suitcase for your purse!
You might check into a small overnight roller bag. I had one to hold my laptop, etc when I travelled for business. It will fit under the seat or in the overhead
I wish they used the proper storage bin , it is the one across the
Aisle from your seat !
yes! say it loudly maybe they will listen.
If airlines would stop people from putting hats and coats in the overhead bins, it would help a lot. Start there, then work to the other stuff.
And while these selfish people just stand in the isles, slowly taking off their coats and jackets like they own the space.
I travel regularly to Japan as a musician, the sad thing is we can’t bring our guitars as a carry on luggage..
That IS sad. I would hate to have to check an instrument of any kind. Especially if it has to do with your work.
@@EmpowerUJourney yes..I will do that..thnx..

In the Philippines its always been 7 kilos for carry on, since 2011.
ok good to know
One slight correction. 4:40 Electronic locks, the TSA will destroy them. If they're "TSA compliant", then the TSA might destroy them, or they might use the TSA key and toss the unlocked lock inside the suitcase. Depending on how the lock is built, the lock may or may not be usable after this.

NO CHANGES ON SIZE OF CARRY ON BAGS
Cant't find that aggrement on any airline website. Please provide a link.
That is a great policy because some people take too much big cary on planes that is bad enough for another person ❤
People carry massive bags onboard and then try to shove it in the overhead bin.
LOL board early - not an option if you’re flying with easyJet 🤣 Last time I flew with them, they boarded our row from the back, even though we were nearer the front 😂
And before anyone asks why would I fly with them then - I live 5 mins down the road from Gatwick Airport (so obvs I’m not gonna fly from somewhere else) which is easyJet’s main hub. It’s hard not to fly with them lol 😂 Plus saving money and getting a flight time that suits, is well-worth it even if it means a clusterfuck of a boarding experience 🤣 You soon forget about it once you’re sat down and on your way 😄
How would the flight attendants enforce that?

What should it really cost, to build an airplane?
If you have to wheel your bag, it ain’t hand luggage
Looking at U.S airline websites. I dont see any changes to carry on dimensions
Finally they are taking care of this issue !!!❤😂
let's see how they will enforce it. lol
I am unable to find any information about this universal carry-on size. Where did you find this information?
The "universal carry-on size" is more of a trend airlines are leaning toward for consistency. The info came from a mix of airline announcements and travel insiders keeping an eye on evolving rules. It’s not exactly stamped on every boarding pass yet, but airlines are leaning toward standardizing sizes to reduce the chaos. Always double-check your airline’s specific guidelines-things can vary!
.."until its heavier than your 'New Year's Guilt.."
😂😂😂😂😂
lol right? lol
The next rule could be that passenger dimensions are stated and you need to step into a metal cage and be able to close the door.
Lol, well, if that happens, I guess we’ll all need to start carrying measuring tapes instead of neck pillows! 😜
Are childrens bags smaller to coincide with the low er seat cost they have?
maybe!
check your airline, as mine does not follow these measurements (not all airlines follow that supposedly "universal" measurements)
Thank you. See rule #2 about weight limits in the video.
The measurements for domestic travel are different for international travel.
What does airline approval mean for battery bank? Are we supposed to declare at the gate and ask if we carry or trash it?
Takes some of the fun out of traveling to have to worry about ounces and centimeters.

You're right, there's no foolproof system, but this is just one layer of security among many.
Your information about "universal carry-on size is incorrect. The EU has been trying to get this done since 2019. As of date, there's NO "universal " size limit yet. There is, however, a weight limit of 22lbs combined between carry-on and personal item.
Yes in Europe you can have 20x30x40 cm or 23x36x52 cm. Depends on airline.
@@stekon9112Some UK airline cabin bag sizes (for overhead storage only) are 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Also some are 55 x 40 x 20 cm. So confusing 😂
Good catch! people are doing what ever they want these days. lol
@@richardcochran260 if your bag fits the size limits then it will fit in the bin wheels first. The requirements include the wheels and handles.
@@rupe53 That's true on most newer large airliners, the ones by Boeing and Airbus, where coach seating has a window, middle, and aisle seat. But there are still some smaller, narrower regional jets and turboprops used in airline service where the bins aren't that big.

so my laptop, that has had a dead battery for about 3 years, and i only use on the power cord, is no longer allowed?
i travel with a lot of camera gear, for professional business. im not checking 10s of 1,000s of dollars of equipment so how does THAT work? i already cram as much stuff in to my camera bag and carry-on for what im going to need but if they reduce the sizes of the bags allowed, how does this even work? will the airlines insure and protect my gear if it has to be checked?
Unless you can persuade them to let you plug it in, or you bring a small power pack with an A/C output - but might be hard to find one that's legal due to the 150W rule. You could try removing the battery but TSA is probably not going to let that fly [pun intended]. Then again if you can remove the battery you have the option to just buy a new one. New batteries are available for pretty much everything that isn't a sealed unit and the non OEM ones are usually pretty cheap.

Im confused - WHAT AIRLINES SPECIFICALLY AGREED? AND WHEN ? ON THAT RULES ?
A flight with Alaska Air asked me to put my carry on, the correct size and under weight, in storage at their cost as other passengers had too many bags. Why not change those with extra bags. My carry-on has medications that if lost are detrimental to my health. Luckily it was not lost.
So you weren't actually ASKED, you were COMMANDED.
that's the problem where some people overpack for traveling
My tote bag goes under my seat. Has meds, liquids, computer, phone .my carry on fits in bin. Never put meds in u suitcase.u might never see that bag again
So put your medications in a small bag and check in your suitcase.
I know I’ve had this happen. From that point on, I had all my “absolutely cannot lose items” in a separate little bag inside the bigger bag.
I'm thankful that I don't have to fly anymore.
Does this apply only on american airlines or all international airlines? When exactly does it apply?
Great question! These rules aren’t limited to American airlines-they’re being implemented by many international carriers too, as part of a broader push to streamline boarding and ensure safety.
As for when they apply, it depends on the airline. Some have already started enforcing stricter rules, while others are rolling them out gradually. It’s best to check the specific guidelines of the airline you’re flying with to avoid surprises at the gate.
If you let me know which airline you’re flying, I can help you find the exact details! 😊
Any indication how LONG these new universal carry-on sizes will last? what's them from making it smaller in 2 years?
These rules have been in place for more than a decade in the rest of the world.
thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the information, I've really been confused by all this.
Here are some practical tips to help protect your equipment:
@@EmpowerUJourney thank you that helps a lot.
Some airlines will not allow a carry-on suitcase, a backpack, AND a neck pillow unless the pillow is IN the backpack.
really? even a neck pillow.
No Langdon, that's fake news
What about medicine and medical devices?
Thanks
Great question! Most airlines allow medicine and medical devices in your carry-on, and they often don’t count toward your luggage limit. Just be sure to pack them in their original packaging and check specific airline policies to be safe! 😊
You can check also TSA website if you are in the USA - What can you bring? www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all
Original packaging?? Out of the question. I'm now 86 and I've had it over ten years. I have no problem taking it n trips between Turkey and Cologne, Germany but, of course it was before the new rules.

If only they charged the passengers according to their body weight, then charge the blobbies more for overlapping neighbouring passengers.
Came here to say the same.
Haha, that would definitely make things interesting at the check-in desk! Not sure how airlines would handle that kind of math. But yeah, we can all agree-space on a plane is pretty precious no matter how you look at it! Wait and see!
That's what Southwest claims they will do but I'll believe it when I see it.
Then maybe they can feed smaller people according to their body weight? That way they can save money on meals.
What government department should I check with if I need to carry on immediate medical supplies?
Great question! If you're flying within or from the U.S., the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is your go-to for carry-on rules about medical supplies. If you’re traveling internationally, check the equivalent agency in your departure country or contact the airline directly-they’ll often have guidelines for accommodating medical needs.
Pro tip: Bring any prescriptions or documentation from your doctor to avoid delays during security checks.
If you need "immediate" medical supplies, you shouldn't be flying at all.
Thanks finally you gonna strict those carry on baggage.
Strange there are rules & weights for carry on bags, yet, everybody is a different weight from say 50-150kgs..

You're welcome!
If I’m sitting in the bulkhead aisle, what is the rule for having a carry on and a backpack if there is no seat in front of me?
Only you and the plane staff knows you will be in a bulkhead seat so anything that can’t fit above you maybe they can find you a space for the usual “under the seat” but it’s tricky.
