Robby Robinson: • ROBBY ROBINSON: THE BL...
I remember seeing Robby on the beach in 1977. He was by himself standing and staring at the ocean. He looked perfect. I had never seen a bodybuilder before and I wanted to get closer but was scared of someone who looked that way. I certainly didn't want to get confronted by him. Robby should of won Mr Olympia that year for sure
He looked phenomenal
I remember seeing Robby Robinson on Venice beach on Labor Day in 1978. I had just missed him by a few minutes in 1977 when he visited a gym in Detroit. He had the best back and biceps in body building at the time. Not being intimidated I talked to him for several minutes.
Robby Robinson's calves were non existent so he would never win the Olympia
@@davidbrianwells2058 Man, those genetic flaws will really hurt ya.
He should have beaten Zane in 1977 for sure. Zane didn't exactly have big calves himself.
I was lucky enough to train with an older guy when I was in high school who had trained with the Golden Era guys. I loved listening to his stories about them. The main exercises he had me do were 10×10 of pull ups, dips, and front squats. I'm 51 now and it amazes me to think I used to do that in high school 3 days a week, with weight! In addition to my football strength and conditioning workouts.
That's a tough workout
@Golden Era Bookworm he had me do pull ups with straps as wide as possible because he said that's what Steve Reeves did.
Thanks for that great story. I’m competing in the INBA Global World Cup in November and I’ll definitely incorporate that workout. I’m going for the Steve Reeves look.
@harold delgadillo That's great, good luck!💪
Thanks! Soon I’ll be posting videos. Probably around mid July. I live close to Venice Beach and hopefully I get to see some legends train for added motivation.
Was always blown away by his back. So much muscularity. So much definition.
Mr.Robinson is the Goat
This has to be a surreal experience for you Carlos. These are guys from the golden era that you looked up too and now get to interview them. What an amazing feeling that must be! Congratulations on your success and may it continue. Thank you for your part in keeping bodybuilding and the golden era alive in the minds of your viewers.
*One of the best Golden era physics and bodybuilder*
Robbie one the world's best physiques I have ever seen, easily! Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome
Such a legend from a legendary era that will never be seen again!
So no big secrets, hard, consistent work has always and continues to work
His voice is really soothing and captivating. I could listen to him talk about bodybuilding all day.
He has a Radio announcers voice
Pause
Loving these interviews with Robbie and Tom... Awesome 👍
Thank you
The golden era resurrected
Robbie is incredible! He took everything in front of him, then learned and adapted. WOW!
Robbie and Charles glass are legendary
great video!! could you do a interview with big CRAIG MONSON a very overlooked champ from the 80s.
Thanks for sharing the wisdom of the old timers with us... Really appreciate it.
You're welcome
Robbie needs to have a Netflix documentary or movie . From the old days of racism , to the Olympia’s and keeping his body now - his story needs to be told
Good interview. I liked seeing photos of Robbie working out with Denny Gable in the old Golds Gym.
Robby is the Goat! 1love
Living legend
Just amazing interview.
Thank you
Way to overcome Racism 💪 Robby! They was jealous of your genes Nd the ancestors!
As a small child I was fascinated by the bodybuilders in the muscle magazines and I would dream of being a bodybuilder myself. I knew all the bodybuilders. But for some reason it was Robby Robinson that made an indelible upon me and inspired me the most. He was a majestic poser on stage and in pictures.
I trained as a youth at Sammy's Better Body Fitness Centre in the early 80's.
But even before then. Men like Robby Robinson were the Ones. All of them say, the next generation forerunners in a field that has had more than it's fair share of criticism. These men were not easily seen then no interenet or Mobile phones. So again for to Watch the interviews you present with the remnants of these men in these times even now is just awesome. Also the thing is I know for a fact there are many athletes in most areas of the sporting community that have used Roids or other drugs. Just they aren't concentrated on. Not like Body Builders that have been dragged across the coals for tens of years. I even took them for a while in that era. But I also did Vince's 12 eggs a day for 3 week cycles. That was a ripper! 😂😅 I am not saying drugs are good but many have used them in more athletic fields than just body building and these guys know the body and physicality so well. Maybe I am waffling now so just saying thanks for your work & investigations.
do miss ric drasin
Me too, and I am trying to continue his work best that I can
@@GoldenEraBookworm nice one ...
@@GoldenEraBookworm You are doing an awesome job . Thank you very much.
@@GoldenEraBookworm I bet Ric would be proud
@@GoldenEraBookworm respect for that ... I used watch every episode... please make a video about him ... again ?!!!
Great interview. I found Robby's memories of his challenges as a Black lifter very interesting.
It's almost a meme nowadays for people to sh!t talk Mike O'Hearn but if you watch him there is no debating the guy is one of the hardest working beasts in the gym walking around today.
All that’s true but no one respects the fact in this era he takes everyone for a fool with his natty bs
@@zombiewanderer Don't be a hater, my guy. He *is* natural. His testicles naturally produce trenbolone 😂
True but NO ONE likes a liar!!!
Super Smart Man
Great interview serieses. Keep it going.
Love hearing from the golden era guys. They really had the best physiques of all time
excelllennnnnnnttttt
True legend
Robby was always one of my favorites
Great content man, it's good someone's documenting the knowledge from these era's of bodybuilding
Thank you Carlos!
Legend
I used the 10x10 for a few months back in the early 2000s. It is a no joke routine, I feel like it was too much volume for a myself as a sustainable routine but it definitely worked.
The biggest takeaway for me was just having a better knowledge of my stamina and my 10 rep numbers.
Classic physique with one of the best chiseled and V-shaped backs of all-time. Would have loved to see him square off with Flex Wheeler both in their prime, that would have been interesting!
Fantastic thanks 💪🏽
Great interview!
RR Is definitely one of a kind.
How many of that era, still alive today, can say they are stronger today than they were during their BB prime time ? 😧
Wild .
Rest days not even once.
Hard work!
Robby Robinson can still go!
Nobody has ever bettered Robbies double biceps pose from the back. Not even Arnold. I'm anti Steroids. But Robbie had a very natural balanced physique in his prime. And back in the 1970s. They werent taking a qtr of the crap they force into their bodies now.
Hi to champion Roby from Australia. 👍💪
I trained next to Robby in the 80s at a gym in ny. It was so depressing..I was incline curling the 70s, him like the 40s and my arms could NEVER look like his!
Yeeeees the prince once again
Robbie's right about in the 70s if you did bodybuilding you were seen as gay. I remember having to go into London to get a copy of Joe Weider's muscle magazine and it was always on the top shelf amongst the porn magazines!!
Nice video
On another subject the Wieder crossed arms bust statue is Mr Robonson's body.
His biceps were 2nd to none as well
What a back robby has!!!!
Hey man about the 30 eggs a day diet can I keep doing it for ever and does it have steroid side effects. If I cannot how many days of the cycle till I can do it again
You must be joking, eggs having " steroid side effects" ? 🤡
According to Vince garanda Eating that much eggs does!! have a steroid effect I read his book. Eating that much eggs for too long will eventually hurt you you need to cycle off of it just like steroids.
He had a steak and egg's diet and a whole lot of butter. And that's all you could eat
@@michelrood2966 its true
500lbs leg press 100 reps. Okay!
Any questions on what the rest period was like with George doing the 10x10 or the purpose of that type of training?
Hypertrophy of course. Quads react best to high reps.
GEBW did a video on Gironda's / GVT 10x10 here ua-cam.com/video/o2b4DU2aXNs/v-deo.html
I'm assuming 10 sets of 10 with 500lbs. It's the 2,000lb leg presses for 20 reps with Mike O'Tren that made me spit my coffee out. 1" rep range maybe.
I saw Porter Cottrell leg press 800 lbs for 70 reps....
20 to 30 sec between sets. that's it...
Robby must have modeled his physique and training after Joe Weider, based on his upper body, given what we know about Joe from that bust made of Joe.
LOL
😂
👌
According to Joe, everything in bodybuilding was invented by Joe.
Joe Weider's training principles....
😋
A little known fact is that Joe himself made that bust of Joe with his own two hands.
@@lastsonofkrypton3918
😂
Joe is the Master Blaster, being the Über Master himself.
He's King of all and everything.
@@lastsonofkrypton3918 How do you know that? What was his training as a master sculptor, silly? Rather, he had someone else make it with their hands, jerky.
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Robby should be the new voice for Darth Vader this is proof that you can grow stronger as you get older
Can I get clarification on Robby's 10x10 routine in the beginning of his career? I understand he did total body workouts, one exercise per body part per day for 10x10... my question is "how many days per week did he do this?"
Hey bro. Why did you hide Tom Platz interview where he spoke about his cycle?
Didn't Vince Gironda have an 8X8 system?
I never heard of the 10x10, but I guess its similar lol, just 2 more reps and 2 more sets.
RR looks good still for his age, but the mass and fullness he had from when he was young is definitely gone.
Sucks we have to get old!
Still is a legend to still be going strong! I guess he doesn't have any arthritis problems? Pretty amazing to be lifting those kind of weights at his age! I definitely can NOT lift heavy like when I was very young anymore.
007
I have seen Vince reccomend 10x10 (Later to be known as German Volume Training), 8x8 and 6x6, all with the Gironda staple of ultra short rest periods between sets.. I learnt all about these during the 90s reading MMI Ironman and countless books.. These old school guys from the 60s to 90s were the best in my opinion.
Just 2 more reps and 2 more sets, but that equates to 36 more reps total. Both high volume though I get your point
The Black Prince got his crown one day and it’s already there: HUGE RESPECTto who has brought the Bb till today and as “fathers” of the game ALL THE BEST ROBBIE:you’re not gone, but only let others keep on.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻( p.s. his OBLIQUES and core area - all the others departments apart, which are “his blend&potion” he’s unique for too, bis peak and “cobra lats” on top- have always blowed my mind(!)And still blow(!)🤍✨👍🏻👊🏻
Robby Robinson the black King!! 😂😅
Kindly ask him about how he build such beautifully developed biceps
Simple. He was born with them. He would have got those biceps regardless of how he trained. He was simply born lucky.
@@shack7631 yes and no he had the genetic potential for the shape but if he never trained them properly they wouldn't of looked any good no matter what his genetics were
@@lawrenceroadloonie3847 Nope. All down to genetics. Use Robbies biceps routine and see if you get the same results. You are either born to have arms like that or you are not. Robbie would still have great arms if he did no direct work for them at all. Lee Haney used to say he could get into shape with just bench press, barbell rows and squats. The pros are the choosen few.
@@shack7631 and again if he didn't train hard his arms wouldn't be near to what they were just like if he never used anabolics they wouldn't either
Great physique
Hey what workout plan do you follow?
How in the world 😂 that people think that if someone works out or powerlifting you would be gay 😂, that doesn't sound right, Arnold Schwarzenegger worked out they never thought 🤔 he was gay, something doesn't make any sense, maybe he's black an black people couldn't work out in that gym, a lot of people are very racist, it's very sad that they're very ignorant. Robby Robinson looked pretty awesome 💯 back then.
To this day, Robby had the best front double biceps pose in the sport. No one has matched it. No one.
10 sets of TEN reps...
or
5 sets of TWENTY reps...
Dag!!!!!
How old is Robby Gordon
How old is Robby Robinson
Who cares what his routine was?
He was on gear for 15 years... so just keep doing your smart routine, 'cuz nothing much that he duz applies to natties, no ??
Had he trained like Mentzer and Yates he would have been even better than he was.
Robby is healthier than Dorian. And Mentzer is dead. So… I think Robby is better in the long run.
Robby gets overlooked in GOAT conversations for the GE BBers, but he should be in the talks. Just an outstanding physique, and a back shot WAY before its time. Plus he's still doing it. Arnold is old and fat, and Robby is still crushing it. Give me RR's physique any day over Arnold's.
Very high respect to Robby. No respect to mike………fake natty.
Robby always had the perfect physique and was my all time favorite.....bar none!!!
Please stop posting this none interviews . Using photo
Met him in the 70'S was at Freddie Mitchells gym in Canada...first pro i ever saw...was just a cool mellow guy.
