As a matter of fact I actually just started reading berserk. It's my first manga I've ever started to read and I just ended the first chapter of volume 1, "The Black Swordsman". From what I've read I love it. It's kinda weird when I was on my way home from purchasing the first volume I got into a bad car accident; totalling my car. The day after I still hadn't started reading because I was dealing with my insurance and got a call from my best friends mom telling me that he had been killed. Obviously I have kind of been is shock ever since but to get my mind off everything I started to read. I think because of the pain I was feeling I just felt like I connected with guts from the look in his eyes. I apologize for rambling but what I'm trying to say is I'm not even half way through the first volume of the series and I already love it more than anything. Edit: please forgive my grammar. Berserk got me into manga 2 years ago. Read and bought all 40 volumes plus the deluxe editions as they come out. 300+ volumes later, I can happily report it did not ruin manga for me. BUT it DOES shit on all manga I have read up to this point. I suggest Vagabond for anyone looking for good art and a serious story. Vagabond is the only series that comes close to Berserk's art in my opinion. Then obviously just read One Piece. It is cliché but One Piece is just that damn good. It deserves all of the praise and popularity it gets. Currently on volume 85 and I don't want it to end. Great channel bro. Keep up the good work.

I’d recommend one of my all-time favourites, ‘Akira’, if anyone is looking for something fast-paced and action-packed Also, my introduction to manga was ‘Ichi the Killer’. Great series in almost every way. However, I’d only recommend it to people who aren’t squeamish because the violence is disturbing By the way, so glad to see ‘Monster’ in this video. Great series
I don’t know how, but I like you do the exact monga that were my first ones one piece demon slayer in my hero academia. And same the anime that got me right into monga is one punch man.
So first things first i completely agree with your first recommendation, of one punch man, since it is a heavily western influenced manga it makes it easily understandable for new comers. This combined with its funny characters nice art and world building makes it a great read for new and old manga readers. However once we get further down the list i start to disagree with your recommendations. In terms of monster i have found that 1. The subject after is more in line with some of the veteran manga readers, its also at times hard to follow along with, this why i would say if your interested in te story try it out when your more versed in the hobbie. With experience comes a better understanding of how mangaka do things, also some volumes are hard to come by these days and in terms of the short supply/ out of print series it’s extremely daunting for newcomers to have to deal with tracking down a copy. Next up spy family, which by the way is one of my favorite ongoing manga right now. But that’s the problem, at the moment there are only 2 volumes, and new readers are prone to binge read manga and gain a collectors mentality. With the medium to slow production rate of volumes of spy family could turn newcomers away from the hobbie. Next up i agree with Uzumaki being a really good manga and Junji itos ability but the only real way to get it these days, is the hardcover which retail right now i believe is 35$ and to newcomers spending that much on one book isn’t worth it. Lastly and my biggest problem with this list Berserk, to put it simply this series just shouldn’t be one of the first it contains some major problems. 1 hardcovers/ the best way to buy them right now are expensive. 2nd the mangaka takes extremely long hiaduss and multiple times we fans have been worried the series wont even finish. 3rd the subject matter can turn many people away, rape gore, blood, and death, are just some of the tube friendly words i can say to describe the story. If you want my recommendation for a first manga and or beginner manga it would have to be death note, the black editions are cheap, it has a great story, its famailiar subject matter to people who have watched the anime, and they look amazing on a shelf. Thanks for hearing my *OPINION* Stay safe happy collecting
We disagree, but I respect you all the more for it! I actually really agree with your Death Note recommendation though. I recorded this video twice, and the first time I had included Death Note in the list. But I decided to take it out, because I had no idea what I was talking about haha. I usually recommend Death Note to people who are new to anime, but I've only read a tiny bit of the manga, so I'm not really qualified to be recommending it lol
Death note is 100% a beginners anime/manga! That serie is what made me get into it. I first thought anime/manga was lame and childish. And here I am, 22y old starting to watch almost only anime and collecting manga. Thanks death note, because of that it will stay in my top 3. (It's also just really good)

You are right, it is just miraculously good and I feel like nothing can possibly stand up to how much I like it and how good it is....
I think most people would be happy starting their manga collection with their favorite shonen series. Over time you’ll find other series you enjoy. You have the option to pirate before you buy, so you can see if you like it. Barnes and Noble also let’s you read anything they have on hand in the store and their entire ebook catalog for 1 hour every day in stores. Try what you like, don’t feel pressured to read more obscure series and don’t be afraid to try a series you’ve never heard of. There’s a HUGE amount of manga, your not going to like every series you read and your not going to find every series you’ll like. Best part is you’ll never run out of new series to enjoy.
Shojo as a whole is incredible for both genders especially if your a sucker for romance like me. Shit like rent a girlfriend and uzaki Chan wants to hang out is what I live for
Well my first manga was Ranma 1/2 hahah but for first time reader mangas I'd say Ao Haru Ride, My Love Story or Yona of the Dawn for Shoujo, Nana or Sweat and Soap for Josei, and I agree with One Punch Man or Demon Slayer for Shounen, Seinen pick would be Vagabond~ and Haikyu or Slam Dunk for them sports manga. Don't recommend Goodnight Punpun openly but I really needed that manga in my life because when I read it back in 2016/2017 it helped me though a rough time by making me not feel so alone so I feel like people should read something else from Inio Asano first. Pleasure and Corruption for the kinky ones out there for sure hahah or Lust Geass hahah but then we have Rent-a-Girlfriend and Ouran Highschool Host Club which I also believe would be nice for people to dip their toes into :3
@@CaptainRAIAN I'm currently reading Gaishu-Isshoku on MangaNelos.com (isnt printed in english sadly) but I think you should check it out, worst case you can call me a pervert (´-ω-`)
I relaise that this video is 3 years old now, but I think recommending Monster is perfect for beginners. Fantastic story to experience, and only 9 volumes (in Perfect edition). I tend not to recommend really long ones as it's intimidating to start when there's loads of books to catch up with.
Not for beginners but the best Manga I’ve read is Kingdom which is super popular in Japan. There are English scans online but I’m hoping they make English official volumes some day.
My first mangas were Berserk, Gantz, Monster, Uzumaki and Elfen Lied. I’ve always been a big fan of horror novels and grimdark fantasy, so seinen manga is my favorite (:
Jojo was my first manga, its so amazing, the story can be a bit confusing but if u know what it’s about it’s starting to get really fun, I started with part 4 DIAMOND IS UNBREAKABLE, amazing characters and side characters, love the mc Josuke.
My first manga was Vagabond. It is really the best ones out there and it is also one of my favorite manga. The art work was fantastic, the story was good and yea it is the GOAT!!
The first manga I ever read was tokyo ghoul, then fullmetal alchemist, and now I'm reading 20th century boys bay Urasawa. I think the basic shonen and shoujos are always a really good place to start, but if something catches your eye that sounds like it might be more complicated or whatnot definitely try it! That's what happened to me with 20th century boys, and it's one of my favorite series ever!
@@ben.is.better I've been buying mine one volume at a time from Barnes and Noble since the perfect editions are just coming out... I couldn't find it online, but monster and pluto are both online for free if you want to try Urasawa!
Yeah my first manga I've read was Berserk and I tried reading other manga and they didn't do it for me like berserk because the manga was immaculate, nothing compared 😭 but I would also recommend vagabond because that's the second manga I've enjoyed personally
Today i got my first my manga it was awesome! First i had a little struggle with reading left to right but I definitely go for another chapter of Jujutsu kaisen.
Recently finished reading claymore and man was it a good read. I wouldn’t recommend if it’s your first series or you’re trying to get into manga. I’m just recommending claymore to any of those that want to try a new series.
My favorite manga that I highly recommend is Goodnight Punpun. Only if you've been into manga for a while and if you can stomach some of its content (and are 18+).
To anyone starting to read or collect manga definitely get platinum end it has decent story written by the man who wrote death note, The covers are just amazing with a shiny gloss and it's a cool mixture of death note and mirai nikki
Berserk was my first manga. I was an anime-only for the longest time, and I picked up manga when I realized there are benefits to both mediums. My personal philosophy is to read manga that either don't have an anime or got really butchered in their anime adaptation (which is why I picked up Berserk in the first place). Really the right recommendation all depends on the person's tastes. If you want something dark, I would recommend Dorohedoro or anything by Junji Ito. If you are looking for a more lighthearted adventure, I'm reading Eyeshield 21, Edens Zero, and My Hero Academia Vigilantes since I've already seen the main series.
My first manga series is Nichijou. Nichijou is about high school girls and their everyday life. The english translation is “My Ordinary Life”, which is quite funny cause there is nothing ordinary about. Nichijou is translated into “everyday life”. Nichijou is a very funny series and everyone should read it.
After buying my first manga (Uzumaki) I checked out this video and it's there! I was struggling between Uzumaki and Nausicaa but ended up buying Uzumaki because of the lower price.
I have started reading manga a year ago too and I’ve stuck to series that are long and on going so I didn’t really read a variety but one that I do recommend is Dr. Stone. It gives off that suspenseful vibe,it has nice art and story, It made science seem really cool and it has quite probably one of the best protagonists in manga. (All I said about the manga is an opinion.)
I'm older and had to drop out of manga during college and after. It's been a while but I'm getting back into anime/manga. I highly recommend fullmetal alchemist, the manga. If you watch the anime, Fullmetal alchemist Brotherhood. Ranma 1/2, saiyuki (they just reprinted the first series in oversized hardback), trigun, serial experiments lane (i don't remember if there is a manga for this one). I watched/read far to many over 10 years ago anyway have fun.
My first manga was Psyren because I wanted to get something that didn't have an anime. Originally I only wanted to buy manga-only stories but uhh... hundreds of dollars later I just started buying everything.
Not a manga but I think “The Horizon” is a good early read too. It’s really short, really good, really emotional, and it will get you used to reading mature content through comic style medium. It’s Korean instead of Japanese but close enough.
Kon! was my first manga I found it when i was cleaning my aunts house and found it, i liked the book and i think people new to manga should try it out!
I started watching anime few couple years ago and never thought I’d get into manga but after watching haikyuu I had to know what happened next so haikyuu was the first manga I read and imo it’s so good and a great first read
I think sports wise especially when it comes to basketball Slam Dunk is a must own. However I personally enjoy Kuroko a little more just because I read it first and have some nostalgia with it. Kuroko's Basketball is definitely slept on. Slam Dunk is just gorgeous.
So basically i started manga a few months ago when I finished black clover in May then I started reading the Manga chapters of it which comes every 2 weeks. My first manga besides black clover is dragon ball which i am reading rn.. the anime is rlly bad but the manga is sick definitely a 10/10 as I read like 50 to 100 chapters in a day in the last 3 days.. that's 200 chapters in 3 days.. I'm planning to read a lot more thnx a lot dude
You should make a video about single volume mangas for people who can't afford collecting whole series of volumes whether it's for money or because of limited space.
My first ever manga was komi can’t communicate and i highly recommend it for anyone including beginners especially if your looking for romance manga like me (since im a killer for romance)
I think the first 3 manga i read was Clover by Clamp, Princess Knight ( the first 2 volumes), and Wandering Son (the first volume ). I was 15 when i read these.
Same. I read so many weird and obscure manga series from the library. And then there was always like one or multiple of the books missing :) I used to go to the library all the time before the pandemic

Don't recommend Goodnight Punpun openly but I really needed that manga in my life because when I read it back in 2016/2017 it helped me though a rough time by making me not feel so alone so I feel like people should read something else from Inio Asano first. Pleasure and Corruption for the kinky ones out there for sure hahah or Lust Geass hahah but then we have Rent-a-Girlfriend and Ouran Highschool Host Club which I also believe would be nice for people to dip their toes into :3
These are great recommendations! I'm glad somebody knows their shoujo haha! Might have to use these myself 😅
@@CaptainRAIAN I'm currently reading Gaishu-Isshoku on MangaNelos.com (isnt printed in english sadly) but I think you should check it out, worst case you can call me a pervert (´-ω-`)
Read Berserk as my first manga. Definitely set a very high standard for any others to match.
I relaise that this video is 3 years old now, but I think recommending Monster is perfect for beginners. Fantastic story to experience, and only 9 volumes (in Perfect edition). I tend not to recommend really long ones as it's intimidating to start when there's loads of books to catch up with.
I’ve been collecting manga for years yet I’m still watching this to see if there where any manga I haven’t read
Orignal Dragon ball vol 3 was my first manga experience and I gotta say I didn't expect to love manga so much better
Not for beginners but the best Manga I’ve read is Kingdom which is super popular in Japan. There are English scans online but I’m hoping they make English official volumes some day.
i love kingdom too. its my second favorite.
I just finished the first volume of A Silent Voice after watching the movie first! Can’t wait to check out the rest!
Lets go I just finished my first manga lol. It was uzumaki by junji ito 🔥
My first mangas were Berserk, Gantz, Monster, Uzumaki and Elfen Lied. I’ve always been a big fan of horror novels and grimdark fantasy, so seinen manga is my favorite (:
I'm reading my first manga inuyasha, bought the first two books today.
I love spy x family! I’m new to manga (I’ve only read like 4 series) but your list helped me a lot so thank you 🙏🏻
The first manga I ever read was tokyo ghoul, then fullmetal alchemist, and now I'm reading 20th century boys bay Urasawa. I think the basic shonen and shoujos are always a really good place to start, but if something catches your eye that sounds like it might be more complicated or whatnot definitely try it! That's what happened to me with 20th century boys, and it's one of my favorite series ever!
Is there anyways to read 20th century blue online? I can’t find it at the 3 book stores by me
Boys*
@@ben.is.better I've been buying mine one volume at a time from Barnes and Noble since the perfect editions are just coming out... I couldn't find it online, but monster and pluto are both online for free if you want to try Urasawa!
@@ben.is.better also all the volumes are on amazon
@@brotherluthor6400 alright thanks
I put off monster for awhile but goddamnit you convinced me
My first manga was akatsuki no yona/ yona of the dawn.
10/10 recommend it a lot.
Never been into Manga but I keep hearing how great it is.
thank you so much, this helps a lot!
Wow having that big of a collection for only a year is crazy
you sold me, I'm gonna go for SpyxFamily and Berserk
Thank you so much! I thought berserk was an easy to place to start and boy was I wrong
The first manga I read, was the first two books in the otomen series they weren’t the best to start off reading, but they are still pretty good
Yeah my first manga I've read was Berserk and I tried reading other manga and they didn't do it for me like berserk because the manga was immaculate, nothing compared 😭 but I would also recommend vagabond because that's the second manga I've enjoyed personally
Today i got my first my manga it was awesome! First i had a little struggle with reading left to right but I definitely go for another chapter of Jujutsu kaisen.
Wow recommending Spy Famjiy 2 years ago before it got super popular. Gonna check out other vids cause he might know what hes talking about
Recently finished reading claymore and man was it a good read. I wouldn’t recommend if it’s your first series or you’re trying to get into manga. I’m just recommending claymore to any of those that want to try a new series.
Ayo bro got a recommendation for you, read the trigun manga. It’s great sci fi spaghetti western and has a great protagonist.
ooh I'll check it out! Thanks!
Theresa trigun manga?!
@@RuiGigaChad yes and it’s awesome
My favorite manga that I highly recommend is Goodnight Punpun. Only if you've been into manga for a while and if you can stomach some of its content (and are 18+).
To anyone starting to read or collect manga definitely get platinum end it has decent story written by the man who wrote death note,
The covers are just amazing with a shiny gloss and it's a cool mixture of death note and mirai nikki
ooh thanks for the recommendation!
I’ve only seriously started reading western comics 2 years ago & manga a week ago having fun so far kinda excited
Great video, lots of good recommendations. A few of which I started with
Thanks! :D
After buying my first manga (Uzumaki) I checked out this video and it's there! I was struggling between Uzumaki and Nausicaa but ended up buying Uzumaki because of the lower price.
How was it?
Just finished reading Uzumaki!
Now i'm Happy to be alive.
Nice recommendations Raian ! 😃
Originally I only wanted to buy manga-only stories but uhh... hundreds of dollars later I just started buying everything.
very helpful thanks man
This was a really good video btw! Dope editing!
Great video! Would love a part 2 !
Also wanna try berszerk and claymore aswell ! Heard they are really good mangas
Berserk is gonna be my first manga books im gonna collect, wish me luck it's not my last.
Should add deathnote to that aswell, absolutely iconic and only 12 volumes I believe?
One Punch Man manga is so damn Hype 😭. I am currently reading The Promised Neverland manga and I am on the pond arc and I am loving it
So basically i started manga a few months ago when I finished black clover in May then I started reading the Manga chapters of it which comes every 2 weeks. My first manga besides black clover is dragon ball which i am reading rn.. the anime is rlly bad but the manga is sick definitely a 10/10 as I read like 50 to 100 chapters in a day in the last 3 days.. that's 200 chapters in 3 days.. I'm planning to read a lot more thnx a lot dude
all of those manga sound so interesting!
Mans got the prison school in the back 👀 I see 👀 your man of culture 😂 love your videos bro!
You should make a video about single volume mangas for people who can't afford collecting whole series of volumes whether it's for money or because of limited space.
My first manga was Vinland Saga and I haven’t looked back since. Can’t wait for book 12!
Ughhh berserk was my first manga and I love it. So many manga peak my interest and I’m so excited to get into manga!
My first ever manga was komi can’t communicate
and i highly recommend it for anyone including beginners
especially if your looking for romance manga like me
(since im a killer for romance)
I think the first 3 manga i read was Clover by Clamp, Princess Knight ( the first 2 volumes), and Wandering Son (the first volume ). I was 15 when i read these.
I'm really interested in Monster. But I'm gonna wait until I see volume 1 on sale.
Manga for beginners,
Anything at my library 😃
Same. I read so many weird and obscure manga series from the library. And then there was always like one or multiple of the books missing :) I used to go to the library all the time before the pandemic
From what I've heard, Battle Angel Alita is apparently REALLY good.... I only worked with that colleague for like a month, but he convinced me.
Greets to David, if you're listening! Which is fucking unlikely! But I remember you!
