10:43 The reason Lace (and the rest of the Silksong soundtrack) sounds so much better than HK is because for Silksong has all of its music played and recorded by a live orchestra this time around (specifically the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra) instead of using a DAW. Excellent video, I really loved the editing!
I'm genuinely so happy that it's almost a universally agreed upon opinion in the Hollow Knight community that the Primal Aspids are a pain in the ass. They contributed to like 90% of my deaths in the Colosseum and I am in pain lmao
The reason why bosses are far from benches is because of game design pioneered by soulslike games, iirc. The idea is that if you die too quickly after spawning you will tilt much faster, so the games make you walk to the boss every time so you can reflect on mistakes and come up with a strategy. Sounds like the problem was more that the game didn't ease up the difficulty in the walk up to bosses like soul master
Any plans to continue the game? Cos I’d love to see you go to different areas like the white palace, godhome and the grim troop, not to mention fight the radiance and get the true ending
21:33 you realize that youre not the hollow knight after walking by the fountain in city of tears. In the ending you realize you actually are the hollow knight
I actually didn't realize at the fountain, because the hollow knight looked so much like the vessel I thought the opposite, that I was the hollow knight but somehow people forgot about me or didn't recognize me or I was in a diminished form.or something.
Mantis Lords is a really weird one to me, one of my favorite bosses and really wasn't that difficult imo, but then I've had a lot of trouble with other bosses that others call easy.
So glad to have another HK player in the community. I think it's great that every player has a very purposely different experience with the game. (Like you, i also thought Fog Canyon was a part of Fungal Wastes on my first playthrough.) Many forget about those black shadow gates. Lots of people have Dreamgate to reduce back track to bosses like Traitor Lord. In fact, Traitor Lord is optional! Lots of things are! A second playthrough would probably blow your mind.
Ive watched recaps of ppls experiences playing hollow knight for the first time. Like their breakdown and i have nvr once seen someone green screen themselves and edit themselves into a video game screen next to the protagonist and that right there had me from the beginning. You basically walking around kinda in Hollownest was a twist ive nvr seen before on a game review. It was astounding. So happy you enjoyed my favorite game man cheers
15:18 you know honestly I never really thought about this. It is kinda lame that they just made an actual gate that blocks you from entering, should’ve been like a bunch of long spikes or something.
7:22 they hired voice actors! I know you put in the flukes as a joke, but Hornets VA was the one to do the noises for them 😂 10:20 theres a reason! He didnt actually use any instruments, just sound bytes! Theres only a few actual instruments in the music, like the piano or maybe a few chords of a guitar, but he was the only person doing the music, not just composing. Im so excited to see what he can do with a real orchestra in Silksong!
I did come back to Hollow Knight a few weeks ago to give it the proper time it deserves, currently on 106% completion and it's been such a beautiful journey. Navigating the map is just always a good time and getting lost to stumble upon grubs or charms rewards you for thurrow exploration. Originally I wanted to go for 112% but Trial of the Fool is beating my ass and I know NKG will do the same, the flower quest will demand more of me than I am willing to give and Godhome is a whole nother can of worms (also fuck Primal Aspids, I 100% agree with you, luckily a single Shade Soul + Shaman Stone oneshots them). If you liked Hollow Knight, I do recommend Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knight, it fits into a very similar genre, also a Metroidvania, set in a gloomy, dead world with challenging bosses, tons of exploration, snappy combat with a ton of different abilities, a beautiful soundtrack and lore that makes you scratch your head until you watch a comprehensive hour-long summary. Also shoutout to your greenscreen edits, always good to see when someone just goofs around in editing a bit xD
Remember, if you ever find yourself saying "man, I wish there was more hollow knight" There is a lot more. No presh, I'm sure you got a schedule, and shit you gotta do, and yeah some if it is harder. But there is a lot more, and I hope you find yourself continueing to improve to be ready to take on some of the harder challenges to come, it's not that much different from the rest of the game, you learn patterns, you hone your skills, you git gud. Best of luck for the nightmare, that is King grimm.
Would love to see the rest of the game completed. The true boss definitely makes up for the easiness of THK and the Grimm troupe has my favorite boss in gaming
One of the things i love about Hollowknight is its ability to tell the story, without really using cut scenes. At most you get a couple of bits of dialogue from each character and the gameplay tells the story. I think the people who haven't played Hollowknight, because its a 2D platformer are really missing out on one of the greatest games ever made.
I dont recall having problems with the benches being far from bosses, and with my skillset I had to give it A LOT of tries. Walking back to the place gave me a chance to mentally prepare, to think what went bad last try, to give the context of the boss thought (specially with traitor lord!), and I perfected the path back to them every time which was also fun on its own
I come from Internet Pitstop. Great video, it's been a little over a year since I played Hollow Knight (I completed it at 106%, last bosses were too difficult), and, damn, it was simply an unforgettable and unrepeatable experience. I like the idea of using chroma key and your way of editing, so I will be waiting for your next video, good luck with the channel!
Same dude, I beat it in less then a week, yet still could experience just how amazing this game was and still is! I’m still playing it to try and get the other endings tho
Just found this video now and I absolutely love it. It highlights everything I love (and hate) about this game in a neat little package, topped off with some really nice editing (I find the way you edit yourself into the environments really charming and it sells the idea that you’re kind of growing alongside the main character well). You really put passion into your work and it shows. Great content!
I like that you were in the game for most of this. First time I've seen something by you. I like the editing and jokes so I'm hitting subscribe. Thanks for the cool video.
I need to get back into this game, got stuck years ago and didn’t want to look up a play through. Your amazing editing and explanation got me inspired to give it another go!
Lol pretend you saw nothing... just updated for SEO reasons, I was going to put the video out in 2024 but cause I thought we'd see Silksong at the game awards...
Benches far from bosses brings tension and makes you actually care about dying. It’s frustrating yeah but it’s a huge reason why finally beating the boss feels so damn good
So glad UA-cam suggested this video! It was fun hearing your take and watching your approach to this thing. There’s a TON of Hollow Knight content out there but you really did just keep it gritty, to the point and entertaining throughout. Really digging this and I went ahead and liked the video & subscribed to the channel my man. I’ll be watching! (Tho you nuts about the music brotha. I do music shit myself and I think it’s one of the best OSTs out there. But yeah man, Ori’s is absolutely bananas as well!)
I find it funny that the only things you disliked about the game where due to you not following along with the lore/story. Either way I loved the video and the style!
That Christopher Larkin slander was rough. But yeah, I sat on that bench with Cornifer and just took in City of Tears for the first time too. That was the best song released in 2017 if you ask me and Persona 5 was released in 2017.
Dammm nicee video man Btw the final fight with hollow knight is supposed to be easy becuz the "hollow knight" was suffering and also he was weakened So lorewise it makes sense and actually he isn the "final boss"
I would suggest Ori and the Blind Forest and afterwars Ori and the Will of the Whisps. But I guess you already played them? I loved the video and I alos like your honesty about the stuff you didn't enjoy :)
Just discovered the channel, I love the censoring of certain words, not many channels have that. Also I do disagree with the music opinion, I personally love it, but I love the personality and energy you bring, earned a sub from me^^
Hey man, first time I see you around here and I loved to see you in my recommended. In the end you asked for a game to play and i think Ghost Of Tsushima is very good ( I am in my own playtrough ) I am enjoying this game and I really recommend it!
i don’t think you went to blue lake near the end of the game, because you would’ve probably talked about it like you did with Myla, since i know you’ve been playing more of the game i would recommend you go there and i’m looking forward to seeing what you think of it in the next video
I love being a part of the HK community. We are like the damn hog riders from the clash of clans commercial. If we hear HollowKnight…. Or Silksong😂 we will be there just to check it out.
Absolutely amazing, finished my first hollow knight play through about a year ago and this video makes me want to play the game again :) 19:18 oh god the primal aspids 😭 Edit Just finished the video and we’ll this is probably the best hollow knight video I have watched, editing was perfect and there so much charm to your videos I love it
I hard disagree with you about the music. I believe the simplicity of the music is what is so magical and perfect about the score. I believe every single piece of music adds so damn much to the overall world and environment. The songs really help reinforce the different areas. You compared it to Ori, which I have always felt is a bit too much for the game and not nearly as easy on the ears. This is my 2nd favorite game of all time. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. Definitely keep on with full completion- it’s immensely worth it.
Is there any other game you would love to see me try?
