  • Few things happening here, we wean and drench our worst lambs, set up a fence on the forage crop and then decide to weigh 620 lambs!
Just a normal day at this time of year.
    Hope you enjoy,

    ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

My first introduction to raising sheep as a market product, was watching Sandi Brock. The progress she has made over the years and battles fought was inspirational to watch. Farming is a tough life even in a relatively controlled environment like she operates. Through her I discovered Sheep Game and was shocked at how much more difficult "sheep product" can be, when done in a more traditional manner. The amount of physical labour it demands, especially while raising a young family with toddlers at your feet and infants strapped on, is astonishing. But it's also a reminder of how tough a life all farming used to be, and still is in many sectors. Never feel you need to apologize for the battles you fight, Cammy and Lizzie. You're doing a remarkable job very few would attempt to do, in this day and age.

Karma rewarding you for Fiona with good winter grazing!
Another very realistic, warts and all video, thank you for showing it the way it is. (Landward also does this. )
The long-term consequences of one simple error highlighted, but also the pleasure in being able to work as a family team, creating precious experiences and memories. These days are fleeting, even though it doesn’t seem like it now.

I was also coming here to also mention the juxtaposition of Sandi Brock's method to the "free range" method. At first look I thought that turning them out on pasture would be less work relatively speaking.🤣There seems to be pros and cons to both methods which is why I love watching these videos. The worming situation for one with pasture raised. That being said as a consumer of lamb, I purchase local pasture raised lamb to eat. Not sure how the marketing works in Scotland, but here you can put a premium on that style of raising meat. Also most farmers around me sell direct to customer. More time involved developing a market, not to mention storing the meat. Summary- farming is not a get rich quick scheme.

Great content as always Cammy, showing realistic day to day sheep farming which is not always fun but has to be done regardless of the weather, lambs will pick up in the rape, don't be so hard on yourself, you and Lizzy are doing a tremendous job and a farmer who doesn't learn something new every day isn't farming.

You testing the electric fence reminded me of a situation I had here. My husband and I were setting up our electric fence, and everything was set. I left my husband in field and went back to the barn to plug in the power. I was lucky I could use direct power and not solar. After I did that I went back out to the field. I found my husband sitting on the ground looking a little off. I asked him what happened. He said he thought he could beat me and had been straddling the fence when I plugged it in. 😢 Needless to say he never did that again!! Im sure all you men are cringing 😖. Love your show. 🇨🇦

The best judge of any stock is another Shepherd. And to be honest if you took the smaller ones out they are not too bad . Later lambs from first lambers during a poor summer is always a challenge.Theres a lot of sharp eared lambs in them which will mend.Yes a dose , and I would perhaps get a blood sample done to check any issues. Maybe bolus them.Anyway don't be too sore on yourselves.."A living mouse is better than a dead elephant".

You and Lizzie are doing a fantastic job Cammy, as farmers and as a family. I don't have any advice for your forage, except maybe next year try a couple of different crops and see what's better.
I think you watch Tom Pemberton, did you see the video he did several months ago where they trialled a new product that is supposed to restore the balance of nutrients in the ground? I know you rent ground for your sheep but it might be worth looking into even if only for a future endeavour when you eventually get your own land. ❤

I have some suggestions for you,
First grow sweet potatoes, animals children can eat boiled sweet potatoes it's softer, you can also add in milk bottle along with milk after crushing it,into a blender.
You can also give to your children,
peel it, boil it .... before giving to your children ,add honey. It's very healthy and delicious.
    Secondly.
You do platation of trees on same land of grassing. Choose the tree of your choice.
Purchase some tyres, give one cut and join it, this will make your work easier,
Put the trees, put more tyres using same method , give some hight to protect from animals.
You can tyres join by rope. Tyres will protect trees from winter ice .
Use rubber tyre tube for last tyre.
Give conical shape for ice to fall outside tyres.
Trees will remain safe during winter.
You will get extra income from same land. You put trees in line, so that you can run machine to cut grass for animals.
    You know how to arrange.
If ever animals gets problem, you will get money by selling fruits or medical plants.
    Jay Bharat.

Jock's keeping up with the trend with that man bun! Would love to see Landward send you to Ireland to interview Sheep Shepherd and his highly entertaining Dad. First yearling, time lambers often need extra feed after lambing to come into their milk, so best to creep feed them shortly after lambing (kind of a balancing act time wise, not too soon so they produce too much milk for newborn lambs, but not too late so it has no effect). If you are daily feeding then you can just start low amount and increase over the first few weeks. So happy for you you got the extra winter grazing. Christmas came early. What happened to the pocket charge tester you had? Should be the key fob for your Moto.

Cammy there is a bit of work in strip grazing the forage rape but if the weather is fine you could give them a strip once a week and you will get the lambs to do a good job on utilise the crop if wet a couple of days at a time will help reduce waste if you have time set up a back fence it will save you alot of time,Try and balance the creep with the lambs especially the small ones it will give them a chance to grow and avoid the small lambs from getting fleshed at too light a weight and it will also give you the opportunity of increasing the creep with the lambs nearer the finishing stage especially if you are running tight with the forage rape at that stage.cheers man those light lambs will be a nice bonus next spring.

Should get a weed eater to cut the brush away from the fencing so it doesn't cause a short in the fence.

Another cracking video Cammy. To cut a way in the rape have a V blade added to the quad. Check out the “kiwi farmer” Alister has a contraption that works really well.

I have a couple questions for you, Lizzie and Cammy!
Is there going to be a part 2 in Fiona? I feel like the last was kinda just left out in the open.
Secondly.... what ever happened with your Learning Nanny? I thought she was supposed to stay throughout the summer and help out with the kiddos while learning about sheep farming. Last I saw, her mum was coming for a visit. Then...BAM! She was no more???
What happened? LOL!! (You're not making Nannies disappear now, are ya? LMAO!!)

So what you trying to say Cam.. That Lizzy's incompatent of recording and driving at the same time??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You better be careful what you say about the wife or your gonna get your self in a whoooole lot of trouble! 😂😂 Also quick question! As for the foot problem... I think you said breed it out! So does that mean all those sheep that have a foot problem its bc of genetics? 🤔 It's not bc they maybe stepped on something, broke the foot, have a random infection, nails are to long or something? It's just genetics? Well thanks again for sharing your rainy day with us!! And i hope you all have a great week!! 😊😊

🤣 she just hates the camera! So it’s not all genetics but in a lot of cases it will be a factor. Very difficult to just breed it out with my current system of buying in sheep. I’m hoping with Lizzy’s new flock we can keep the females from them and not need to buy in any sheep.

The good thing is those late smaller lambs will be ready for the Easter trade in 2024 - Easter in 2024 is early on the 31st March - and from watching Sandi she does well with the Easter trade I believe with the Greek community who want them smaller and whole
