This is the best dual drive dock I could find, it has USB3 support and also runs in standalone mode for disk cloning. I have had this for about a year now and it has saved my butt a few times!
When I first got it I made a review video: • Easy HDD Cloning SATA ...
I thought I would take the time to answer some of the questions raised, and clone a drive in the process.
Speed wise, the manual says it will do 60MB/s but in practice I have found it to be closer to 90-100MB/s if my math is correct!
So long story short, I managed to clone nearly 30GB of data from a WIndows 10 install from the Kingston 120 SSD to a Sandisk 240GB drive in under 6 minutes! So that is roughly 100MB/s although, if you take into account the processing overhead the device will be faster/slower depending on numerous factors.
Anyway hope this video has been helpful?

but will EaseUS Disk Copy clone a Mac OS?

  • @wb6vpm

Just to clarify, this unit does a sector by sector copy of the drive, so it’s not copying 30GB of data, it’s copying 120GB of data (yes, even the blank areas) in that time frame. If you look at the new drive when you plug it in, it will show as a 120GB drive with ~120GB free space that you have to expand into.

I would like to add on to Mike's demo. The video was being sped up during the part when the START button was being pressed.
The behaviour of the running LED was not displayed in slower motion it would be helpful if the video could could be played back in slower motion for clarity.
The % LEDs light up in acending order (aka running light from 0% -> 25% ....) before it hits the next 25% mark. Thereafter the acending order happends before it hits the 75% mark and finally the 100%. The LEDs beside the 2 HDDs lights up constantly and do not flash betwwen Red & Blue for the whole cloning process.
Initially I wasn't sure whether the HDD were cloning. Then I touch my SATA HDD and realised that both the HDD were spining.
I allow it to continue to run till the end of the cloning process. Once the cloning process stops at 100%. Both HDD will stop spining (Vibration Stops). Hope my comments would help the next user to have a better graps on the device cloning behaviour. Lastly, this device was confirmed by the manufacturer that cloning can only happen when both HDD are either same in data capacity or Target to be large then the source. If the target HDD is smaller than the Source HDD. The device HDD Blue light will keep flashing indicating that the target data capacity does not qualify for cloning. In this case, cloning will not be carried out.

As someone who has just bought a mini pc (ACEMAGICIAN Mini PC Intel i7-10810U), and Orico 40TB 4 bay enclosure (from using a normal pc), I notice your Orico videos are 4 years old plus. I am sure I would have enjoyed seeing more vids on how to use these items. This video is good, but would love more info about larger HD docking stations. There is only basic information so far on UA-cam. I'm sure I'm not the only person transferring from a large PC to mini and docking stations (I have four HD's lol) who would be really grateful for more details on pros and cons, how to get over any shortcomings. Fortunately I'm not a game player lol.

I have this system and am using it for the first time today. I came to see if the lights scrolling back and forth are normal or if I needed to do something more.
Note that what you say for cloning the drive is absolutely different from what the manual says.
The manual on page 11, says that it does a bit by bit copy whether there is data on the drive or not, so it would take the same amount of time to copy a 128 GB blank drive to a new drive as it would take to copy a full 128 GB drive to a new drive.
I am copying a 1TB SSD with under 300 GB on it, to a 2TB SSD and it has been running for well over 30 minutes with no sign of the 25% light going solid yet.
It is funny as I also upgraded my NVM2 drive from 512GB to a 1TB using another manufacturers device and it flew. :D Although I made the mistake of touching the drive when it was done, it was VERY VERY hot. Both of them.Just waiting for the SSD's to finish so I can reassemble the system and see how it works.

@@mikesunboxing It took 2 hours like the manual said it would. It did do a bit by bit copy and recreated the source drive all the way to the size of the drive. You have to go in with a partition manager and resize the partition if you want to utilize the entire drive as one partition. NOTE, Windows 10 does NOT allow you to move partitions on the same drive around. What this meant for me, this was my HP boot drive with Windows on it and a recovery partition. Once the drive was copied from the 512GB to the 1TB, I had another 512GB that was Unallocated. However, you can NOT just add that unallocated space to the windows partition because the recovery partition is right in between. You can only expand a partition using unallocated space on a partition adjacent to each other. I had actually upgraded my Sata drive from 1TB to 2TB today as well so already knew this was going to happen. Because that was my data drive, I had zero problem using windows built in drive manager to grow that partition to use the entire drive.

Hi Mike, You have good presentation skills and covered the points I was looking for. I generally look for three or four minute primers and passed yours up as overly long until the shorter versions proved to be nonsense compiled by un-knowledgeable presenters. A writer below commented on 'too much information' and that is my only critique. Stick to pertinent facts rather than fillers. Thanks for the insight. I couldn't find the instructions that came with the unit, now I am full bottle!

Hi Mike, thanks for the video. I've got an issue / question about copying. I was going through the comments but I couldn't find an ideal same question.
So, I'm using 2x Seagate 2TB drives, both formatted in MacOS. One (source) contains all the data. The other one (target) is empty but formatted. Both disks are loaded. The switch is set to clone. I've pressed the start button and the device started beeping and copying/cloning... I was looking at the blue lights (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) and they were indicating me that the process is running. After a while it beeped again. So I assumed it has finished the process. I've switched it back to "USB" and reconnected it to my Mac book - Now only the target is showing up in finder, NOT the source? After looking into Disc Utility again, I saw that the partition was gone and was renamed to its first or original name. But I could not get into my files on the seconded drive. Am I doing anything wrong in the process of copying/cloning/Formatting? Is it supposed to be like that?
    THANK YOU in advance!

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  2 роки тому +1

the formatting or structure of the drive should not have any real effect on the cloning, it should be just doing a hardware level, sector by sector copy including disk format and file types etc.
Normally when cloning a drive i would only then use one at a time in windows or via USB as they both will have the same data and sometimes this will cause issues with them being read properly

@@mikesunboxing well how should I then clone a disc when only one is used? 😅 or do you mean using only one when working on the drive? -> yea of course, I only work on disc a. At the end of a day I insert drive b and start cloning. That all works fine. The issue I had was that when both disc where inserted (disc a in target and disc b in source) only disc a showed up, NOT disc b. Which leads me to the following question: is it actually possible to boot a disc through the source slot? Or does only the target source is able to get recognized by a Pc or Mac?

It's not bad speed at all. My USB 2 dock works out at 5MBs, which is 6 times slower than this and is not standalone. So is probably variable dependent on the system you are using to run it. £32 is a nice price too. I see that Startech have a USB 3.1 Gen 2 version out at £100. But I can't see the speeds being much different as the SATA will be the bottleneck.

This does not "clone" drives, It appears, from this video, that it just copies data. If you are looking for an actual block-by-block clone, this device does not appear to do that. I know this because all I get on my unit is red lights and no copying. I assume it only works with Window compatible drive formatting. Wasted my money on a device that claims to "clone" but does not.

    • @mikesunboxing
